I really enjoyed your review of Small Change. My deep dive into Kiwanuka's music was with his self title album which I fell in love with. I loved the two advance releases from Small Change but was confused when I actually heard the album because it lacked the upfront hooks of the last album. Then I decided to give it that headphone listen on steaming and came to the realization that this album is more of a slow grower, that the hooks was not outside of the tent drawing you in but deep inside the tent, deep inside the music. It was like a Polaroid photo just popping out of the camera with the image slowing coming to view. That was my listening experience of taking Small Change into my listening sensibilities. Compared to the Kiwanuka album, Small Change is really a different type of album that adds nicely to his body of work. Once I purchased Small Change and played it on my high end stereo system all the warmth of the music just flowed out that was not there with streaming listen. I was amazed by the flow of the bass playing and Michael singing. This is a chill out album to listen to while reading the credits and lyric sheet. I enjoyed your review very music and I will check out your You Tube channel as well. Lastly I like to put an artist on your music radar. Have you ever heard of Valerie June. With he high pitch twangy voice and blend of country, folk, new age, rock, she takes all these musical elements to produces music with a cosmic atmosphere. Because of all these grouping of musical styles, it has been call organic moonshine music. She has released three albums and they are all great. She is worth checking out. While her twangy voice my take some getting use to you will soon relies it is perfect for her music. She is from Tennessee and she has that down home friendly personality that is infectious so watching some of her interviews is fun as well. Perhaps you will check her music out and maybe do a retrospective review of one of her albums. Here is a link to that spotlight a song from her last album. It has a 1950s ballad feel.
