Really enjoyed listening to you describe the challenges & adventures of academic life, glad it's working out better for you now (with family support). My family has a similar story with the ups-&-downs of academic life but, eventually, everything settled down: I have a creative PhD in ecopoetics, my son has a PhD in biomolecular ecology & now works as a scientist, while my daughter is completing a PhD in verse-novels (she also has endometriosis). A life of reading, study & adventure is so healthy, isn't it? Hope everything now continues to go well for you.
A non-traditional PhD student, you have me very curious, what is that? And what is your research question? Ah, Mary Shelley, I also love Gothic, & especially 'Frankenstein'. Fellow BookTubers have been inspiring me to get into horror, so I've recently begun an adventure with Shirley Jackson, & I'm loving it, I think. Hope your channel is a booming success. I look forward to following your academic & bookish adventures.
Thank you! A non-traditional student is, essentially, someone who hasn't followed a traditional pathway in academia. For example, I have large gaps between both my undergrad and masters degree and then again between my masters and PhD (both largely due to financial limitations). Additionally, I was an independent researcher for the time between my masters and my PhD, which adds another element. As for my research, I study how climate change is presented as haunting, fractal histories in speculative fiction written by women writers. I engage with this topic by considering ecofeminist philosophies and the ecogothic.
@: That sounds amazing, glad you’ve found such an engaging research topic, I really enjoyed by postgrad work also. I now work as a critic and poet, and love what I’m doing. I am very lucky. Hope your research and BookTube channel continue to thrive.
I love your channel name. Look forward to more.

Woah, just watched the whole thing and what an incredible journey you have had. I am amazed how things kept unfolding until you deliver the news of your PhD!!!!! (I loved the storytelling at the start) I am sorry you had bad times with the first few semester in the first few programs you mention, BUT DOING TWO DEGREES SIMULTANEOUSLY???????? I HAVE SO MUCH RESPECT. I AM SO GLAD YOU MADE THIS VIDEO, THANK YOU.
