Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Time splitters, future perfect TimeSplitters 2 Fable Sniper Elite Sudeki Conker: Live and Reloaded Hunter: The Reckoning Land of the Dead: The Road to Fiddler's Green There might be one or two more I miss, but these are the games. Home entertainment equipment, awesome when it does work. I’ve tried fixing a low end DVD drive and while it does work, it doesn’t really eject properly. Usually they are reliable since very little can fail, considering your unit had issues with DVDs and only sometimes played CDs, it does seem like a laser assembly problem. Nice to hear the VCR actually works, would be good to give it a clean while you are working on it. The motor might fix itself with enough usage but it might be a bit weak if it can’t initially spin a disc up. Fortunately I have a good selection of working players so the ones I have with issues aren’t much of a problem. Nice to see a new upload!

    Nice Betamax machine! I definitely need to get some more Sony HiFi and video equipment from the 80s to pair with my 1987 woodgrain Trinitron. Awesome setup, all the consoles and equipment like that SVHS deck look really cool! Seems like a good start, if nothing else is added into the first section, you could add something like a shelf above the VCR and NES for small storage. Maybe some tapes or NES things? Another option would be to include an entire area just for the video connections. Something like an older AV receiver would work great, switch between consoles and equipment and also have the option to use external speakers. I’m sure the speakers on that TV sound great though, looks like it was pretty high end for the time!

    This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while, at least to just test it out. I’ve got a variety of CRTs small and large and they would be perfect with something like this. I guess a good question is what the source should be, DVDs and Blu Rays make sense as they are reliable. VHS would be fun but not ideal to put unnecessary wear and tear, maybe something like a DVD/HDD or similar combo unit? Of course another option would be a dedicated computer for the source content, I’d definitely use something like an old PowerMac or early Intel Mac combined with my iTunes library. You could always use Coax cable if you already have a bunch or have the internal wiring for it. Sure it might seem useless, but then again I also have CRTs and obsolete devices.

    • @wherecoulditgo4677
      @wherecoulditgo4677 8 месяцев назад

      I wish I had coax running throughout the house. I have access to all the rooms via the attic, so that may be an option. I think a computer would be the best source and I hope to make that happen someday. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    • @TheOriginalCollectorA1303
      @TheOriginalCollectorA1303 8 месяцев назад

      Nice, if you do plan on a project like that, it’d be worthwhile to route ethernet alongside the coax. Or you could always use the extremely fast and reliable phone line! I know I’d like to have the convenience of built in coax and ethernet, but it’s only easy to do without walls getting in the way haha. It’s probably overkill for a media machine, but a server type rack system would be cool, making it look like a broadcast station. Not to mention you can add rack mounted players for DVDs/Blu Rays, or really advanced stuff like Beta broadcast tapes.

    I got mine as a gift like 20 years ago, it worked fine for many years (except the source/tape switches made worse and worse contact). I think once the power switch stopped making contact, then one of the erase head wires broke which took me head scratching for a while, then it started slowing down, one of the idler wheels' grease was gummed up. Just the next time I wanted to use it, it didn't move at all - the other idler wheel was frozen solid. Re-lubricated that too and now it basically works fine enough as long as you jiggle the source/tape switches until it plays. I'm rather happy with it except its tensioning mechanism has the tendency to oscillate on 15cm and 12cm reels.

    I'm trying to understand what you were trying to fix?? You never stated the exact issue or symptoms your deck is having... I watched the video. The VU meters worked when you turned it On and the reels seem to be turning fine when you initially pressed the Play selector. What were you trying to do, cleaning and lubrication? You obviously adjusted or did something incorrect when re-assembling the motor pulley and made matters worse by messing around back there. The PT-862D is a nice simple 3-head deck and internally looks well designed compared to other "space shuttles" I've seen the insides of.

    As soon as I saw that multimeter I knew you were going to replace the fuse and try it 🙂 The desoldering pump was definitely a surprise. Hope it springs back to life with the new rectifier.

      I had to give it a shot! The rectifier has come in and I am excited to try it. I hope you'll stick around and find out!

      The local thrift stores here are all pretty consistent, except for one. Usually, VCRs sell for around $5, which is pretty good. The expensive store sells them for more than 20. I like to think no one is buying them, but they are always gone when I go back. Thanks for commenting!

    Here's a video of another MX-100 ejecting: ruclips.net/user/shortsdheDj2Ov6Sw?feature=share

    6:30 don't worry the eject is slow like that by nature. I have a few other VCRs and the eject is way more robust so I know exactly what you mean, but it looks like the tape mechanism is really built to be that way, I've another video of this VCR and the eject is exactly the same, don't know if you noticed though but the eject on this VCR is super silent you don't get that typical whirring noise. I believe that most VCRs used the mode swicthing motor to eject (the motor on the top left corner) or a seperate loading motor while our VCRs use the capstan motor to eject, that's why it's slower and more silent. I'm also happy to know that those "snapping" noises and that back and forth "hesitation" the mechanism does before threading the tape , sounds EXACTLY the same as mine. So I assume everything's working properly.

    For $5 that was a steal! I have the same VCR I bought on eBay about 10 years ago, it was 100€ at the time, but due to poor shipping it had a cracked corner, a cracked front panel PCB that I had to repair and the door flap was loose rattling inside, fortunately it didn't damage anything and I got a partial refund. It a very cool VCR, the belt on mine also became loose, I boiled the belt for 5 minutes and managed to squeeze a few more years out of it, but it's now loose again. Unfortunately my unit has a fault on it with the hifi section, it plays pre recorded tapes just fine but when I record a tape it seems like the hifi signal on the tape is very weak, I get pops and crackles and ocasional dropouts. I don't think it's worn heads because playback is excellent on other tapes, I believe the RF circuitry is recording a weak signal on the tape.

      Thanks for the comments! Other than the eject I have had nothing but positive experiences with this model. I primarily use it as a way to play my Japanese game systems. In that respect, it has been a game-changer for me.
