A mortar with a proportion of sharp sand was used. A brushed flush joint was chosen to create a textured appearance which slightly exposes the grit, producing more character to the walls.

Using Dyebrick 'Soot Wash Replication' to create authentic looking smuts. It is important to pressure wash the individual tiles you are going to be tinting to remove any surface contaminants. This helps the product fuse to the available silica in the clay of the tile. Allow the tiles to fully dry out before applying the soot wash.
