My ex-racing greyhound, Mabel, is currently undergoing acupuncture, cold laser therapy and aquapuncture treatment. She has arthritis in her thoracic spine, arthritis and spondylosis in the lumbar spine, and a sarcoma behind her left metatarsal. Mabel readily accepts the acupuncture. The aquapuncture consists of B12 injections. At her veterinarian's recommendation, Mabel supplements her daily meals with reishi mushroom and two different mixtures of Chinese herbal medicine (Wei Qi Booster and Max's Formula). Unfortunately, Mabel is not a candidate for surgery. Because she is a senior, I opted to forego chemo and radiation therapies because I did not want to put her through the trauma. Moreover, the nearest medical facility is several hours away. Mabel tolerates the acupuncture quite well. My vet and I discussed my goal to provide Mabel with a loving, comfortable quality of life for as long as possible. The alternative treatments appear to be helping her. She is much more playful than she has been in quite a while. I am glad that my vet suggested the alternative therapies; I think Mabel agrees.
