And this definitely must be how they became Artemis
So amazing. Saw this lineup way back then, and it's all just... like what the actual f is Kilson tearing out of the universe's a'hole at times? And Dave grinning the while. Just completely awesome.
Yez! Yez!
Of course you can only take the greatest solo of all time if the rhythm section is happening!
This man is a fabulous saxo player, this chorus is one of the best i never heard
Siiiiiii!!!!!🙌🙌🔥🔥🔥🙏
9000 pianists and guitarists in NYC and no one got the call? Damn.
That was utterly thrilling. What a solo! What a band! ❤❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥🔥
Damn...did someone let Chris know we was gonna need back here on Earth to cut a few more albums after that?? Unreal.
".. his ideas and execution and flow as an improviser is really at a level that I have rarely seen before. I have often commented that Gary Burton and Ornette Coleman were two guys I played with who really stood out for the way they seemed to be bottomless pits of ideas in their own respective ways. Chris rivals that to me. He can just go on and on, deeper and deeper, and all with that amazing sound. He is one of the greatest musicians I have ever been around”. - Pat Metheny
Dave Holland sounds so friggin good here it’s criminal
Very nice collaboration...Reminds me a bit of a more 'trad' version of a project Gary Thomas and Greg Osby did together some 20 plus years ago, 'Pariah's Pariah', involving two saxophones, bass and drums and no chord generation instruments, in order to opening up the harmonic possibilites.
❤❤❤👏👏👏👌
Fantastic solo and the bass player is AWESOME!
Gruesome!!!!!
Props to Steve Nelson!
Hahaha very funny
The whole band is relentless!
I'll being watching a lot more Chris Potter videos. He crushed it here.Everyone was awsome.
Reading the title I was like; Sure it must me great but this seems hyperbole. I was not ready for what was to come
Where was this recorded?
Bit jumbled in beginning
There is no greatest
WOW! WOW! WOW! Oh my goodness.
Dont Forget About my Mentor Robin Eubanks!
Chris on fire!
What a ridiculous video title 🤣🤣🤣
Bs
I don't like Chris Potter's playing. There is no doubt that he is talented but this is like musicians trying to impress musicians. Spaz jazz like this makes me feel absolutely zero emotion. Not one pretty phrase ha ha ha
Bs
Whose playing DO you like?
eh, i like his standalone interpretations of jazz standards. the level of motif and variation is unparalleled. this is different though, it's more cathartic and verging on free jazz blues, which is also very cool and different. not as technical, but possibly more 'soulful', the band interaction is vital, too
Yes !!!!! ❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥
amazing muscular solo, but 5 minutes of any live Coltrane recordings is unreachable, sorry...
And I thought the title was clickbait lol
These guys were playng already on 2017, then 2019 and now, 2023, again. And what a blast was it yesterday at Langnau Jazz Nights, Switzerland. Do not forget to check the Circuits Album en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circuits_(Chris_Potter_album)
That shit defies description. I mean... that work is transcendent. Is he better than Brecker?
He's lacking the clean consistency of sound and technique brecker had
Not better but different.
I love how Billy Kilson sways in half-time to what he's playing.
Dave got that look on his face that says this is a moment in time.
jajajaja.. Extraordinario
Any idea where this was recorded? I saw the Prime Directive band at SF Jazz during this tour, and recall Potter's solo on this tune being astonishing there as well. The entire performance was incredible.
Songs that belong on vinyl ❤
and I'm here, practicing my Autumn Leaves arpeggios...
Me 2 and still wrestling with my sound
Chris potter was in that phase too, keep working and believe in yourself
10:35 - aaaaahahaha
Love Sean Rickman on the drums... But everyone is sleeping on the sheer brilliance of steve coleman's M-Base music principals and his compositions. Wake TF UP!! The fact that most drummers cant count m-base proves that sean is actually a god among drummers. This music is making him shine even more....
With Michael Brecker sadly departed, Chris Potter is now the No 1 living saxophone player. No question.
Yup! Don’t think that will change for a long time. He is on a whole other plane
There are many living legends Kenny Garret, Joshua Redman, Patrick Bartley… Though Chris is definitely up there no doubt (Also im not a saxophonist so i can’t really judge the technical abilities of these guys so take my comment with a grain of salt)
@@silver1788from a technical standpoint Chris Potter is terrifying to almost every saxophonist alive. Except probably Joe Lovano, he’s on another plane
Dave Holland's face says it all!
I didn't get shit
6:30 Sick
for real
Whoa...........................no words.............Thank you!!!
It becomes very tiring all the "best ever", "best of all the times"maybe greatest solos of all time " on youtube.. How many solos in the history of Jazz? how many genius in Jazz? Have you something to sell here?
That's Jazz!!!!
What a joy to hear live. His touch, versatility in style and musical intellect is divine.
