I think that Kun and Chun did recognize each other when they are reborn, and that's because in Chun's first dream she sees Kun staring at a sunset and when she calls him he looks at her with a warm smile on his face. So yeah, Kun definitely did remember Chun in the end. I am not sure about the romance thing but looking at how since they first met it felt to me like this wasn't some childish crush Chun was developing, it seemed like that because when she first sees Kun she's amazed with him and is also curious as well. But after he died it became a connection that she developed when he saved her and thus turned into a bond between the two that was becoming stronger the minute Kun's soul began growing under Chun's care and that's what makes it beautiful. I believe that she was able to live her human life happily with Kun. I hope if a sequel comes out that it will develop better Chun and Kun's relationship after this scene. Right before the end when Chun finds out about Qui's sacrifice she's heartbroken not because she realizes she loves him because she doesn't, but because she will never see her dear friend ever again, so she believes. And she's also distraught to learn everything Qui sacrificed for her and probably regrets how she treated him. It was absolutely heart wrenching the second she friend zones Qui, but she still cared deeply for him, I don't believe she would've returned his feelings even if she knew.

I dislike how a lot of people say Kun is lame compared to Qui because he had little scenes, first of all he saved Chun from what could been a horrible death for her. He saved her life with no selfish intentions, it was only her decision in the end that she repaid back the kindness Kun showed her. Qui is better than Kun in a different aspect but Kun isn't a worthless character. The whole point of Kun's character is that he symbolizes humanity, rebirth and a pure soul, at least from my point of view, although I would preferred more scenes to see some character development of him but hey that's the directors choice. I only hope that in the end he was able to reunite with his sister.

The directors already confirmed in an interview that they're working on a sequel to Big Fish & Begonia! So on a one side I'm super hyped but also concerned and a bit worried, hopefully if they bring back the main characters they will give some better development between Chun and Kun and what happened to them at the end, maybe he did return to his little sister. Also hopeful they give Qui some chance to find happiness in the next movie, with someone better than Chun. Who knows what might happen.
