So glad you shared these! I just love looking at artists' sketchbooks and seeing the different ways in which they use them. I love when artists just go through the pages one by one... so inspiring. Yours are really lovely - just gorgeous colours, and compositions that just make me want to go over to my art table and paint! Thanks for mentioning how to spell "khadi" in this video. I asked about it when you mentioned it in another couple of videos I watched today, so now I know! I was thinking it was "caddy" or something like that.
Yes, sketchbooks are like a diary. When I've done one on location, for example, and I look through my books, sometimes years later, I remember the place, the weather, etc, and what else I did. I recollect everything. Khadi, yes. Thank you. Jane.
Jane, that is just lovely. I have always loved negative painting and the effects you can get, and this is a great demo. I have just found your channel today so I am hoping I can find somewhere where you've shown how to do these backgrounds. I'm quite new to watercolour, but I love the ethereal, magical effects htat are possible. I'll be checking out your other videos!

Can you clarify what kind of paper you are painting on, as well as the paper you taped it to? They were perhaps the same. It soundedike you said "caddy" paper but I've never heard of that, so not sure. Thanks. This really has such a nice finished look. Thanks for sharing!
I think it’s a Khadi sketch book….but Iam not sure. It’s hand made paper very nice not too thick

Professional framer and art restoration person here….the tape you are using will leave a brown burn-mark across the face of your artwork. It will take a couple of years - but will eventually leach its acidity right through the paper, and ruin your painting. Always use an acid-free framers tape to mount your work - Filmoplast P90 can be ordered online. You’re welcome!
Yes!! I've seen this happen with people using double sided tape in journals. Such a shame.

What is a caddy paper please?
It's a brand of paper, but it doesn't have to be that sort. Jane.
@@janebetteridge8958 I've used khadi paper from India, which is a rag paper, very rough and interesting to use. You can get it at all the usual outlets.

I love this style. I’ve sold paintings based on your mounting method. As a sidenote in the United States, I was able to buy two deckle rulers that are metal. It was incredibly difficult to rip the paper to get that edge. It was much easier to use a less expensive watercolor paper, that ripped much easier.
That turned out well then, but I do prefer the thick handmade. Jane.

Have you tried using a wet paintbrush to wet alonh the edge where you're tearing before tearing it?

Well, Clare, you should give it a go! You can't really go wrong. It,s like being in the studio with me - you see every move I make so you're sure to do a good job by following along. Pause, and replay as you like. You'll soon be framing one. I tried Googleing it just, and several suppliers come up, including on ebay. Jane.
@@janebetteridge8958 Thanks - I've had another look..... the Paste is out of stock at all suppliers I have found including the one on eBay, the DecoArt Glaze and the DecoArt Paint are available but the first is transparent and the second very thin so different products than you have used. I will have another look in a few weeks time🙂
