In Romans 15:8 Paul tells us Jesus came to confirm (not reimagine or alter) the promises to the Patriarchs. those promises, as Dr. Burge acknowledges here, most definitely include the land of Israel (see Psalm 105:8-11). Likewise in Acts 3:21 Peter preaches that when he returns, Jesus will restore everything promised by the holy prophets. God’s promises to the Patriarchs and through the prophets show his continuing faithfulness and love for Israel, and that he will restore them. Look again at the second of those two verses; “He must remain in heaven until the time comes for God to restore everything as he promised long ago through his holy prophets.” This links to Acts 1:6-8 So when they met together, they asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?" 7 He said to them: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Both use variations of the same basic word, restore. Acts 3:21; ἀποκαταστάσεως noun, gen. fem. sing Acts 1:6; ἀποκαθιστάνεις verb, ind. Act pres, 3rd p sing. Calvin’s false comment; “there are as many errors as words in their question” is answered by the context. Acts 1:3 After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. Acts 2:4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit So, in Acts 3, Peter has; 1. been taught by the risen Lord about the kingdom for 40 days, 2. has been filled with the Spirit, and, 3. having been present in Acts 1 when the question about restoring the kingdom to Israel was asked, and having heard the reply from Jesus, here he is, 4. and now, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, is speaking words that that same Spirit has seen fit to include as part of the inspired word of Scripture! So, he now repeats the word "restore" from the earlier question, confirming that everything promised by the holy prophets will be restored when Jesus returns! And as just seen, those promises major on the restoration of Israel! The change from “Israel” to “all things” probably shows already a processing of Jesus reply to the earlier question, his command to preach the Gospel to the ends of the world - “all things” now includes both the promises to Israel and those to the whole world. Note that in the same speech, Peter likewise references God’s promise to Abraham; 'Through your offspring all peoples on earth will be blessed.'

God's promises are important for many reasons, the first being his faithfulness. God does not lie! See Psalm 89:34 and Numbers 23:19. Regarding its continued importance in the New Testament, Jesus affirms Jerusalem saying it IS the city of the great king. Prior to his own birth, the Angel of the Lord declares that God will give him the throne of his father David and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever. Regarding the mission to the Gentiles, already in Acts 3:25 Peter declares this, basing it on God's promises to Abraham. In that same sermon he also notes that when he returns, Jesus will restore everything promised by the holy prophets. See Jeremiah 33:25-26 and Ezekiel 37:12-14, 21-28 for just a few of these. Notice also what Paul does say. In Romans 15:9-12 he presents the longest collection of Old Testament scripture to be found in the New Testament, all to show that God's plan was always to bless Gentiles along with Jews (he is not changing anything or dropping anything out!), and also in this chapter, 15:8, he states “Christ has become a servant of the Jews on behalf of God's truth, to confirm the promises made to the patriarchs.” Again, for a quick summary of these promises, see Psalm 105:8-11. That is, according to the New Testament, God has NOT "dropped out" the ethnic/Jewish component of his promises to Abraham, nor its geographic component! God's promises, once given, cannot be altered by him at a later date. Dr. Gary Burge is seriously mistaken!

I am so perplexed that as Christians, we can't see that both realities can be true at once. Meaning, the land, the nation and the people are still his and still going to come back to the nation preserved for them, because we are grafted in to a gospel due to the blessing of the Jews. We are told in Romans 11 to not be arrogant. Replacing them is arrogant. It is ignorant as well. You can not look around the globe today or history as to understand if your biblical perspective was true, there wouldn't not be a preserved Jewish people. Only Hashem could preserve them! Only God can do it! And we will see that Hashem does discuss nations, rulers, kings, and boundaries. The zionist project is not to blame for the issue. If this was true, then why would they be kicked out of every nation for every generation prior to Israel being restored. Unbelievable. No one else would take the boats filled with Jews after WWII. Good Greif! And if you don't know what the Muslims believe in fundamentally, then you will not understand the issue in the Middle East. They are directed to shed the blood of their cousins, the Jews DUE to the birth right given to Issac and not Ishmael. YOU ARE MISSING a lot here theologically and also historically. It is damaging!

Calvin Theological Seminary you don't believe in the Hebrew Scriptures so why would I, a Jew, think you could know anything about what is going on in Israel? You believe the Christian Church replaced Jews. Obviously you are ignoring your human God Paul in his book of Romans who does not agree with Calvins

Thank you for this conversation. As a pastor who was helping our church to organize a trip to Israel, I asked our tour guide to also have our group meet Palestinian Christians and he was going to try. He said that is a very good idea. Sounds as if no one had asked this before. As it turned out, our trip got canceled due to the fighting going on. We will try to go to Israel later on and hope to meet Palestinians too.

Modern political Israel has nothing to do with the people of God.

While studying scripture, I was shocked to realize the current state of Israel in the Middle East did not fulfill Isaiah 66.8 (a nation born in a day) as we’re always told; the context (vv15-16) is speaking about the day of the Lord which coincides with the physical resurrection of the dead (‘born’ out of the land) which is further elaborated in 26.19. This did not happen in 1948. In that case, if the state in the middle east is not biblical Israel, what is it? Rev 2.9, 3.9, 11.8, 17.5, Isa 1.10, etc, comes to mind.

Can Professor Kang Young-an speak of reformist theology? Adam, as Dr. Kang refers to, is not Adam created by God. Dr. Kang cites the writings of Carl Barth of Neoclassical theology. And he advocates Lexio Divina, citing Eugene Peterson, who refers to Lexio Divina, a Roman Catholic spirituality. How can such a person speak of reformist theology? What is your reformed theology? What is your reformed faith? Did your theology die? Isn't the Calvin you know in the 16th century John Calvin? After eating a warm meal, theology became extremely cold.

from the get go, at mt. sinai, anyone making covenant with God could become as much a jew as a jew. a mixed multitude came out of egypt. at anytime, a proselyte who was circumcised could be as much an israelite as any jew who did the same. it was never ethnicity, except for bringing christ, the son of david, into the world. a physical son of abraham did not guarantee acceptance with God. jesus called the pharisees sons of the devil. it has always been faith, only a remnant. and location became a nothing burger after God judged israel for rejecting his son when the temple and jerusalem were destroyed in a.d. 70. "..the kingdom will be taken from you..." john 4:19-24 no one will worship in jerusalem...true worshippers worship in spirit and in truth. a new king, a new priest, a new kingdom, a new covenant. those who are christ's are abraham's sons. all the prophecies about jews returning to israel, the land, were written before or during the babylonian exile, they did return and rebuild the temple. prophecy fulfilled. after that, no future prophecies of that nature were written.

New Covenant Whole Gospel: Who is now the King of Israel in John 1:49? Is the King of Israel now the Head of the Church, and are we His Body? Why did God allow the Romans to destroy the Old Covenant temple and the Old Covenant city, about 40 years after His Son fulfilled the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34 in blood at Calvary? What the modern Church needs is a New Covenant Revival (Heb. 9:10) in which members of various denominations are willing to re-examine everything they believe and see if it agrees with the Bible, instead of the traditions of men. We need to be like the Bereans. It will be a battle between our flesh and the Holy Spirit. It will not be easy. If you get mad and upset when someone challenges your man-made Bible doctrines, that is your flesh resisting the truth found in God's Word. Nobody can completely understand the Bible unless they understand the relationship between the Old Covenant given to Moses at Mount Sinai and the New Covenant fulfilled in blood at Calvary. What brings all local churches together into one Body under the blood of Christ? The answer is found below. Let us now share the Old Testament Gospel found below with the whole world. On the road to Emmaus He said the Old Testament is about Him. He is the very Word of God in John 1:1, 14. Awaken Church to this truth. Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by husband unto them, saith the LORD: Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Is the most important genealogy in the Bible found in Matthew 1:1 (Gal. 3:16)? Is God's Son the ultimate fulfillment of Israel (John 1:49)? Why has the modern Church done a pitiful job of sharing the Gospel with modern Orthodox Jews? Why would someone tell them they are God's chosen people and then fail to share the Gospel with them? Who is the seed of the woman promised in Genesis 3:15? What did Paul say about Genesis 12:3 in Galatians 3:8, 3:16? Who is the "son" in Psalm 2? Who is the "suffering servant" of Isaiah 53? Who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34? Who would fulfill the timeline of Daniel chapter 9 before the second temple was destroyed? Why have we not heard this simple Old Testament Gospel preached on Christian television in the United States on a regular basis? Once a person comes to understand the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, which is found fulfilled by Christ during the first century in Hebrews 8:6-13, and Hebrews 10:16-18, and specifically applied to the Church in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:22-24, man-made Bible doctrines fall apart. Let us now learn to preach the whole Gospel until He comes back. The King of Israel is risen from the dead! (John 1:49, Acts 2:36) We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18. We are come instead to the New Covenant church of Mount Zion and the blood in Hebrews 12:22-24. 1Jn 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. 1Jn 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. 1Jn 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. The following verses prove the Holy Spirit is the master teacher for those now in the New Covenant. Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Mar 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost. 15:43 "this is popular war against colonial oppression" - umm... the Jews who came to Palestine/Israel in the early 1900s did not have any colonial power behind them. Even after the Balfour Declaration (1917), they were essentially left to themselves to figure it out. The Arabs in Palestine are indigenous to the Arabian Peninsula (I wonder why it was called that). If the Jews are indigenous to any area, it is Israel. 17:02 "for the Jews it was not working" - that is a reference to pogroms and the Holocaust, and the understatement of the century. The Jews who chose to settle in Israel did not do so because there were defenseless natives in the territory. They settled because Israel has always been their home, and Jews have lived there continuously (at least in small numbers) since around 2000BC. 18:13 "The Jews call it the War of Independence, the Palestinians call it a Holocaust" - the Jews fought against the Arabs of many nations who came to exterminate them the moment they declared their own country (according to the partition plan - they didn't claim any land that had not been given to them in the UN partition plan until after they were attacked). 18:59 He makes it sound as though the Jews were the stronger people in 1948. They were not a country on May 13, 1948. They didn't have a proper army. And on May 15, a military coalition of Arab states entered the territory to wipe them out. You can't compare this to indigenous people of North America - there is no point of commonality. 20:33 He says the first intifada was non-violent. Wikipedia says "the [first] intifadah, was a sustained series of protests and _violent riots_" and notes that it started because of a car crash that Palestinians said was intentional retribution for an attack in Israel a few days before (so even if the car crash was deliberate, the Palestinians started the violence). 22:58 the two different licence plates are for Israeli-owned and Palestinian-owned vehicles. An Arab with Israeli citizenship has a car that can go anywhere. Cars with Palestinian plates are restricted to avoid suicide bombings. I could go on... but I'll leave it there. This is the 2nd video I've reviewed, and it doesn't appear to be any different. Loads of factual errors - easily googled information. Do some homework before you believe anything this man says. (All of that said, I'm not saying the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has simple solutions).

Mark & Gary appear to me to have bought a bunch of political garbage. Gary mentions "indigenous Palestinians" when there is essentially no such thing. If there is a people who can claim to be indigenous to Israel it is the Jews. The Arabs are "indigenous" to the Arabian Peninsula! If ethnic cleansing is going on, then why are there so many Arabs in the State of Israel? Why are there so few Jews and Christians in the Palestinian territories? (If there is ethnic/religious cleansing, it appears to be in Gaza and the West Bank!). He says "things were not working out well for the Jews in Europe at the end of the 19th Century" - ie. pogroms, the Holocaust in the 20th Century are things "not working out well"???! Besides the fact that only about 50% of the Jews in Israel today came from Europe - the rest came from mostly Muslim nations (almost certainly due to ethnic cleansing going on there). If Gaza is an open air prison, then why does Egypt have no responsibility for that? They have a border with Gaza too! The majority of Arabs who left what is now Israel in 1947 were told to leave by the Muslim governments - whose stated goal was to wipe out the Jews in the area and then let the Arabs take it over. Calling Israel the aggressor when EVERY war has been started from the Muslim side in the last 70+ years, including the current one! Jewish people have lived in Israel continuously since the Exodus - admittedly going down to as few as 2000 in 1690, but there were more than half a million Jews in Israel in 1947. The population was 60% Muslim, 7% Christian, and 32% Jewish in 1947. In 1931 (prior to the Holocaust), it was 74% Muslim, 9% Christian, 17% Jewish. At 34:05 he said that the October 7th attacks didn't happen because of enmity for Israel and hatred of Jews. Hamas is a terrorist organization that has a charter. In their own 1988 "Covenant" they quote a "martyr" saying, " 'Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it' (The Martyr, Imam Hassan al-Banna, of blessed memory)." Note that Imam Hassan al-Banna was one of the founders of the Muslim Brotherhood, which mobilized fighters against Israel in the 1948 war. It continues to quote from the Quran ""The Day of Judgement will not come about until Moslems fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Moslems, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him." The 2017 Charter says that Israel itself is an illegitimate country, and refuses to accept the UN partition mandate (ie. a two-state solution). They go on to say that their problem is with the Zionist project only (not Jews), but their actions on October 7 put a lie to this claim. 34:12 "they [Hamas] have nothing else to lose" - the conditions of the "open air prison" are of their own making. They have quite consistently received $1 billion per year in funding from the UNRWA, not to mention their funding from Arab sources - Iran is estimated to fund up to $100 million/year and there are cases of Western charitable organizations that have funneled money to Hamas and other terrorist organizations. 43:57 "75% of Israeli Jews are not religious" - they both agree on that, but a google search turns up 45% Around 47:00 they start talking about Jewish victimhood leading to de-humanizing Arabs. Remind yourself that there are Arabs living in Israel, elected to the Israeli parliament, no less. For years, Israel has been allowing sick Arab children to come to Israeli hospitals for treatment, and some of the very people slaughtered and taken hostage on October 7 were people who gave rides for the hospital treatments. 51:03 they say that the reaction to wipe out Hamas is not rational. First, no one in Israel has ever said Hamas was going to wipe them out. But they are tired of living in fear of another attack. They're saying, "Enough! No more Jews are going to die because of Hamas being on our border." Ask yourself: If Mexico constantly sent people across the border to commit suicide attacks, and then the Mexican army sent a company across the border and slaughtered 10,000 people (because US has a much bigger population), do you think the USA would just kill the soldiers on their soil and call it a day? No, they'd be in to remove the government in power and destroy Mexico's military capability to carry out a future attack. And the border wall would be up within a year. Is Israel not allowed to do the same? Why not? At the point of them minimizing suicide bombings and about the "fake rockets from Gaza" at 52:05, I'd had enough, but I continued on until they started to say that the tunnels were for smuggling food. The food is provided free by UN aid agencies. They smuggle weapons! These guys don't deserve my time any more. This is just garbage. They themselves demonstrate a hate for truth, and for Israel.

As a former insider of the church, I can say that basically the only reason Christians unconditionally support Israel is because they think they are helping fulfill end time prophecy to help Jesus come back. The irony of the whole thing is that the Christians still think all the Jews will go to hell forever (the whole time being super friendly with them) unless they accept Christ. So in a way they are being dishonest and just using the Jews. And I don't think the Jews know the Christians think they are going to hell. Maybe they do? Maybe they don't care? Or if they did, maybe they may think twice about befriending them.

I do really appreciate your thoughts, is amazing how you, been Jew and Christian has this perspective, I guess it takes a lot of courage to express it. I have been Christian since 11 years old and I almost 40, and I was so disappointed in my local church after seen barbarism in both sides, no for the common people but for the ones who holds power, that the pastor started the service saying we’re going to pray for Israel and no a single reference or empathy was shown for those little victims in palestine, I’m glad for your words because there aren’t many who thinks like you.
