    I don't but I love gadgets and this one is pretty cool, the price for the basic one is up there but could be worth it to me as I already carry a bunch of micro SD cards so if I could read all of them at the same time that would for sure be worth something to me. Also it does appear that they have a reader that can also read the older CF cards, that unit looks to be about the same overall size, etc... but the price went way up - 2 times the cost of the base one. I think they should reconsider the pricing as I do not see why that one is twice the price just because it has a slot for the CF cards, (could be a good reason for it, I don't know for sure) but I would say that if I was a heavy user of these cards due to my job or hobby or whatever that this would be a very nice item to have. Only thing I think I worry about is the eventual wearing out of the USB cable and even all of the individual card slots - the contacts that make the connections on these items are very small and are subject to damage and wear. It would be nice if that USB cable was replaceable just in case it wears out (a new one could be soldered onto that cable if required...). All in all, I do like it a bunch, the price is too much for me because I don't use the cards enough but I can easily see someone else using cards a lot more and this would be a great thing to have. Cheers.

  • @artemlarionov7084

    Focal length is measured when lens focused at infinity, so at infinity all lenses with same focal length behave the same and have the same angle of view. But because of focus breathing picture could be different for lenses dependiing on distance to subject of focus. And for degrees and size of image sensor, there is a commentary already.

    • @Paul_Kretz
      @Paul_Kretz 23 дня назад

      It is not precisely true BC FL itself is always an approximation. E.g. hardly and manufacturer creates 50mil FL. It is most times the likes of 49.9 or 50.2, etc. Add breathing and sensor sizes and you have a mess... Degrees would solve it all.

    • @artemlarionov7084
      @artemlarionov7084 23 дня назад

      @@Paul_Kretz Degrees doesn''t solve anything because they themselves are a derivative of the focal length and sensor size. Focal length (f) and field of view (FOV) of a lens are inversely proportional. For a standard rectilinear lens, FOV = 2*arctan(x/2f), where x is the width of the sensor.

    • @PaulKretz
      @PaulKretz 24 дня назад

      What exactly is nonsense here? That angles are measured in degrees (not millimeters) and are more precise to represent angle of view, then focal length? 🙂Or that angle of view slightly differs in different lenses even at the same focal lengh? Or that T-stop is more precise to describe the amount of light than F-stop? Try to prove me wrong with some proper facts, not personal evaluations 😉

  • @Deruzejaku
    @Deruzejaku 25 дней назад

    You also don't fully understand the topic. Also most of this is irrelevant, to the point I watched this for photographers. Also if they're misled it's not by focal length or F-stop, for example macro I tested lately 40mm prime, was changing focal length to about 60-70 mm when going into 1:1 magnification, with this I could assume that it being 40mm prime is a lie, and additionally at supposedly F2.8 you loose like 1.7 stops of light by going from infinity to 1:1, so is the F stop getting different, or maybe it's the T-stop (the one that indicates actual light passing through the lens). Those could be ways that lens manufacturers mislead you, but usually ion good lenses focal length doesn't change much while focusing, and for example constant F2.8 zooms pass light in a way you don't have to boost ISO at long end. It's less of a misleading, and more lack of knowledge on a user part. Also there is no better way to really mark those lenses, because for example you can still use 50mm from full frame on APSC or M43, so you can't change focal length on lens to field of view because on different sensor this would get different. If I took a 300mm Lens and would be able to cover with projection entire wall behind it in a distance of sensor in a FF camera, this would be ultra wide angle lens, and if it still had a mount I could use to mount the same lens on a FF camera it would be a telephoto. Well anyway I'll just stop here, I could probably write for month and none wouldn't read this whole anyway, and photographers don't need to understand optics, they just need to get a feel of the lenses they own

    • @Paul_Kretz
      @Paul_Kretz 25 дней назад

      Why would we need to "change focal length" if the field of view was the same? FL would make no difference, because the angle in degrees is what really shows the picture and thus matters. The sensor size would not matter as well in this regards - degrees are enough and precise to describe the width of an image, so if you need a lens with certain coverage on different sensor sizes, just pick the lens with the required angle of view (degrees written by manufacturer on the barrel). The same with F-stops concerning light - no confusion if we'd use T-stops, no matter what. I explained this all thoroughly in the video, no reason to repeat. With 40mm example you just proved the same thing - all these figures are deceiving.

    • @Deruzejaku
      @Deruzejaku 25 дней назад

      @@Paul_Kretz You could argue the same for fl because angle in degrees is just a result of focus point being certain distance from front of the lens. And since by having a sensor or film you effectively crop in the image circle created by the lens, apparent field of view will be different depending on the sensor size. For example 50mm on full frame will give diagonal 46° while on APS-C it will give diagonal 31°, and quite often you can use full frame lenses on APS-C camera bodies. I appreciate the reply, but relearn optics, build pinhole camera, have some fun I think you'd get the topic better this way, getting a telescope is also good option, research on this will teach you a lot, not only about fl and f stops, but also about light gathering ability and resolving power of the lenses, it's a good study really.

    • @PaulKretz
      @PaulKretz 24 дня назад

      @@Deruzejaku I guess you should see the bigger picture: if you choose a lens by fl, you need to consider sensor size, but if there were degrees, you wouldn't care. If you need a 90 degrees AoV lens for APS-C, then go pick one. If you need 90 degrees AoV for full frame - you're welcome, find a FF lens that says "90 degrees" on the barrel. The image will be same. Doesn't work like that with fl. Of course, if you mix different lenses with different systems (you better not imho), that's another story. But the initial choice would be so much easier. If you know the degrees you know the exact angle of view.

    • @PaulKretz
      @PaulKretz 24 дня назад

      @@Deruzejaku ANY lens is made for specific sensor size (even if it can fit another). So if we have degrees, pick the lens according to the desired angle of view for specific format. The degrees would always be the same. Say, if you pick 90° lens made for FF and 90° lens made for APS-C, they will give absolutely the same angle of view. Perfect match. What else do you need? That is my idea. You won't have to recalculate anything (while with FL you do!). Of course, if you swap them, you'll get a mess. But just don't do it😉. Many test showed that (except the very expensive ones) lenses perform better with proper sensor size (for which it was made), then with the "wrong" ones. Just match the lens and sensor size. And degrees will help pick the proper lens for proper sensor size. No problem and no need in crop factor. Of, course, if you continue mixing lenses and sensors (I repeat, you shouldn't), you'll continue getting mess. But even then the degrees are constant and precise, while the angle of view judged by focal length is relative and dependent.

    • @Paul_Kretz
      @Paul_Kretz 23 дня назад

      @@Deruzejaku The width of the resulting image is measured in degrees and is what matters to an artist, so it is the most relevant nomenclature for a photographer. some tricks from the optical designers from the past: 1. simplest a lens element or an achromatic doublet at the rear that kept its position while the front part focusses like Tamron did a lot in the past, like their 90 mm f2.5 macro, the same applies for the Tokina ATx 90mm macro. To correct for field curvature and spherical abberation. 2 other designs like the Nikon CRC in the 24, 28mm f2.8 AIS et cetera were a bit more complex. 3. IF design with 2 lenses travelling in opposite directions in Tele lenses 4. only the last group or element focussing for gaining AF speed in the first place now it's a bit more complex

I followed so many videos about freewell filters in the last few weeks because I need CPL and ND filters and your one has made me take a decision: I’m oriented to buy the Freewell M2 set because I think it’s better for an only photography use. The only doubt I have is about the different diameter of my lenses: I use the 16-35 f4 and 24-105 f4 (both 77 mm) for the 80-90% of my photos, but in case of necessity I’d like to have the possibility to use filters on the 70-200 f4 (67 mm) and 135 f2 (72 mm). The V2 82mm hybrid filter is adaptable to others lenses only using the adapter ring…..do you know if it’s possible for the M2 kit too (with Freewell or third parts adapter ring)? Thanks in advance.

      Hi! I have no memory of it... Did you watch my M2 review? I must have mentioned it there.

      No I didn’t, I’ll watch it. In the meantime I found the M2 adapter ring on the Frewell website but any of these aren’t available (i.e. the 72-77 for the 135 f2): I wrote to Freewell and they answered that any adapter ring, just like the 72-77, are no longer in production. I’m thinking to purchase the Nisi’s Swift system with ND (not Variable ND) filters: it’s more expensive but the 82mm Kit is alredy provided with 67-72-77 adapter ring (even if I have to buy the CPL separately) and watching some vodeos on the tube it seems to have an higher quality level.

      @@johnmichaelminghini4780 Wow, that's sad news from Freewell... Hope you find the filters for your needs! I just stuck with V2 for now. Feels convenient with two native base rings - 77mm and 82mm.

    nice kit i bought but should be aware the magnetic lnse not strong enoght to keep filter on camera ,,, have to use the screws ... disapointing

    • @Paul_Kretz
      @Paul_Kretz Месяц назад

      Yes, these screws are a weak link. But you can not get away with it, beacuse it controls the CPL. It's the price for convenience of having VND and CPL combined...

    Hey, that's a rare type of a proper lens review. Well done :). I've been shooting with this little beauty since 2017. What I've learned is that it works best for close range photography. It's definitely not a landscaping lens ). The bokeh this lens can produce is insane! And it is rather unique that way. I'm not talking about the amount of background blur, but about its character. Usually fast wide angle primes tend to produce quite ugly bokeh with stretched and torn bokeh-balls. But not this 28mm. This one is very yummy ). It's not a sharp lens by modern standards, but if I have to get the most detail out of it, then I stop it down to F9-F11. But, for landscaping, a cheap kit zoom would probably do a better job. I did use it for stitching landscapes (as a workaround) and it was fine, on a 20mp FF camera. So, yeah, it's great for street, portrait, pets, cars, party, forest, food, flowers, mushrooms and stuff like that.

    With V2, what if I want to just use CPL but WITHOUT nd, am I able to do that? It seems that I can use cpl only with a minimum of 3nd stop

    • @Paul_Kretz
      @Paul_Kretz Месяц назад

      That's right, it's three stops minimum in any case, that's the price for convenience of having VND and CPL in one item... But separate CPL usually steals 1-2 stops anyway, so it's not such a big loss here, just another stop.

    How is the image quality for this lense?

    • @Paul_Kretz
      @Paul_Kretz Месяц назад

      Usable. But better not go over 24mpx. It's stunning with 5D classic (~13mpx).

    How can I get that time back I just spent watching this waist of time.

    • @Paul_Kretz
      @Paul_Kretz 2 месяца назад

      You can not turn the time back. You can just learn from how you spend it and decide what to do with the rest of it... So make up your mind. If you watched it all and did not learn anything, that's a waste (waist is a bodypart near your belly) on your part, not the author's...

    My largest bodied camera is an Sony A7iv and I have a A7Cii and a 6700 too. I have a battery grip for the A7iv, but stopped using it in an effort to reduce weight. I picked them all up with my eyes closed and let my hand fall naturally for what I was holding. I found that I instinctively placed my middle two fingers in the scultptured part made for them and then my index finger and thumb ended up wherever. Generally my index finger wasn't too badly placed and I had no problems reaching the shutter button. My thumb on the A7iv was on the thumb pad of the camera, but on the two small cameras my thumb was up in the air like a flagpole. However I was able to hold them all securely one handed and and once my left hand was holding the lens I was comfortably able to operate all the buttons placed for the thumb. I don't think I will change anything from now on. I prefer lighter gear and as long as I can hold a camera still enough and long enough activate the shutter, it will be keep calm and carry on.

    This tripod has a lot of features I've never thought about (a dual action head - ball head and traditional handle operated head). Legs that tighten up form the bottom, and the pull out friction levers for when they aren't pointing in the right direction. So many good options, I'm going to go do some research on getting a new tripod for my hiking, walking, and goofing around.

    I hope your channel takes off. I've enjoyed seeing these examples of camera grips, and ideas on holding cameras. I must be honest however. I was hoping the Canon cameras were going to fall to their demise during the video (personal preference that Canon cameras go away). I love using my cameras with the battery grip installed (and rarely take it off). Since my Pentax K10D I've had a grip. My K-1 Mark ii is a beast, but so comfy, and even better with a grip. Now my K-3 mark iii feels like it was built to be held and used. Holding a camera in portrait mode with a battery grip is more comfortable than holding a camera in landscape with or without a grip. Fun and interesting video, thank you for taking the time to make content. (You can throw the Canon cameras away now ;) ). If your pinky finger is hanging down, you can swing it out like you are sipping Tea in England at a fancy restaurant :) .

    There's much better bokeh in the 50mm 1.4 at about the same price on ebay. I'm a little bit of a blurry-background lover.

    • @Paul_Kretz
      @Paul_Kretz 4 месяца назад

      Same here, and I actually own the old 50 1.4D, but first it is soft wide open, only gets sharp from f/2 up and second, imho 50 mil is a bit too tight for cropped sensor in casual use. Not so versatile as 35. And fast 50 is my all-time favourite on FF. BTW Canon is to release RF 35mm f/1.2... That would be fun 😊
