Programming Study Session #4 - Hex Grid System
Just a video of me attempting to write C++ and use vim commands in VS Code, hopefully learning something in the process.
The page I referenced a lot for how to code the hex grid can be found here:

Code written using javidx9's olcPixelGameEngine to render graphics. All credit and respects go to him and his amazing work.

World Building Cartography Project - making a world map for a fictional planet
Просмотров 23 тыс.3 года назад
A 10 minute time-lapse of a 15 hour process. I used Gplates and Illustrator to make this project. The workflow I used comes from Artifexian's ATLAS MAP video series: ruclips.net/video/TQvwgPFSN-I/видео.html Music: www.bensound.com, www.purple-planet.com
I always love seeing other peoples fictional maps and then pickign where I would live
I totally get you! I love imagining the places I would go explore as well. Where would you choose to live on this one? 🙂
wait is bro a teacher
Bruh it took me WAY to long to realize that this is not a task that the MARINES issued
15 hrs is insane for this...
Subbed ❤
Please can Amazon stop repeating the advert with snow & ooh ooh irritating soundtrack ?
do you have this avaialbe in realtime? i follow Artifexian aswell. great video!
did not know this tool existed! why did the more "well-known" game masters youtubers i watched not talked about this for realistic landmass making? thank you and great work!
at some point in the second of 2:24 their desktop search thing opens and it says that its -1 degrees, also in japanese it says it is sunny and in Canberra. idk
ive done this before too, following the same series, it was a lot of fun, looks like your results turned out great!

This is beautiful.
Artifexian showed a more accurate method in his latest vids. Great map either way!
Great map! You gave me the motivation to work on my map(s) again
2:30 song?
All music was downloaded from the links in the description. I sadly don't remember the exact names.
Beautifull work , I use a quite different process but you did great!
Did you use a pen tablet for the illustrator part?
Yes! I used a super small Huion tablet that I bought online for $40. Made the whole process a million times easier!
What a nice map! Did you continue the work to come up with cultures and (his)stories about the map? I find that having a planet mapped out in this way really gets the creative mind going
I love how this guy went through the effort to make a real good map. Most people just make a square island in the center, but this guy actually made his realistic. This is the kind of map I want to see more often! Beautifully done!
>realistic >other side of mountain range where no moisture comes in is green ok
Probably don't want to get notified by this, but it's expressly an elevation map.
@@revon7202 This is an elevation map. Not one of climates
If you think the world map he made is good you should take a look at mine
@@Texan_christian1132 link?
The one problem I have with Artifexian's ATLAS MAP video series is that only allows for the creation of 1 map. If you want to do speculative biology you need to take into account continental drift, and his method doesn't directly allow that.
Yeah this is true. I guess it was more focused on making a map for a language / culture cos at the time he wasn't doing much on speculative biology. I'm sure you've probably seen it, but he did do a colab video on Biblarions channel on creating a map taking into account continental drift. I haven't gone to that extent just yet tho. Are you working on a speculative biology project? It's something I'm interested in but have never done so would be interested to hear about anything you might be working on.
@@raznaelcreations1997 Yes, I watched Bibladirion's video series (the later parts are jaw droppingly good) and I noticed that the first video (when they do continental drift) doesn't have plates, just continental landmasses that move a bit. Which is easy to do mindlessly, but they haven't explained how to do it properly. And about spec bio... no, I don't fell qualified enough to do it yet. Bibladirion's 3D approach to creature desing puzzles me because I don't know how to make good 3D (I mean, I can make a cube, but that's about it).
@@raznaelcreations1997 ruclips.net/video/vdgzSrh5pdQ/видео.html this is my lastest attempt
@@daniel_rossy_explica Did you see that Artifexian has a new Geofic series? We are just about to touch on tectonics and I think we are going to cover continental drift. He just released a video explaining what we will be seeing in the next few weeks.
@@ijahnnakehlam5919 Yes. I'm very excited by the fact that he will adress that issue.

Hexes are a cool form of grid in my opinion
I agree! Give a really nice aesthetic I reckon
@@raznaelcreations1997 Also has an added bonus of working well for Table Top Games, since it works better than a square grid for movement!
What a beautiful map! I also do this kind of thing, so it is very helpful. Thanks for the good video!
Thank you very much for the wonderful comment! Your videos are very detailed and helpful as well. You have a new subscriber!
Livestream died for no reason, ended up going on a rant about vim commands for a good 20 minutes and non of it got streamed or recorded T ^ T
This livestream had so many things going wrong in it haha, will try fix things in the next one.
"My internet is failing me" >stream dies within 30 seconds
YOOOOOOOO LET'S GOOOOO
Oh wow that’s pretty cool, I always knew you could program something like that with C++, but to see it is still kind of wild to me
Great job dude
What progran is this on?
They used GIMP to draw the tectonics. Gplates to project those plates onto a sphere, line everything up, create natural map distortion and draw basic outlines of the landmasses. Then they used adobe illustrator to redraw the land masses to make them look more natural and to draw in the height map.
@@memebomb7406 k, thanks
@@memebomb7406 Yep, you got it exactly haha.
Damn do I wish I was that dedicated as far as getting up to that point for world-building goes. I have rumbles of ideas and all but still a long way from anything serious thus far.
Good video👍
Holy guacamole!! So talent filled this video, amazing to watch you’re entire process. We want more!
Very nice Raz!!! I didn’t understand much of what you were doing but it’s just super cool and realistic, love it!
Thanks Kantwo! Hehe yeahh tbh looking back on it now There's a lot I would have done differently, but overall still very happy with the map. Really glad that you like it!
@@raznaelcreations1997 yes it’s super Creative and i Love how realistic it is, I‘d love to see more!
Thank you I'm so glad you like it! I love the super realistic look on maps too. I'm actually planning to start work on another rendition of the Raznael map soon so hopefully more cartography content coming! I'm also thinking of uploading some worldbuilding/conlanging content as well, along with any music I make.
@@raznaelcreations1997 oooh yess
@@raznaelcreations1997 what would you have changed?
EPIC!!!
Thanks Ben!!
This is insane u better be getting A++++ for the rest of Marine class
Hahah that would be amazing!!
