LOVING YOUR OPPONENT. Talk by Master Bob Amacker
I have at least one student now who can learn this, as I never really had this training in depth these videos are extremely helpful
Control of the wrist does not really stop an elbow, if they are close enough to hit with the elbow they are close enough to apply control to the elbow.
It is true that tucking the pelvis under is not a good idea, nor is it part of the Yeung family's instructions; hollowing the chest is a fundamental idea. From Yeung Sau Chung's book 'Practical Use of Tai Chi Chuan' translated by Yeung Ma Lee Sifu (daughter): Rule #2 from the 'thirteen important rules,' Hollow the chest and raise the back. Rule #3, the first sentence - Keep the energy leisurely down to the navel psychic centre...by hollowing the chest and loosening the waist. By no means should the chest feel 'full.' This is an extremely important structural point and matter of health. Though Mr. Amackervis may take a difference with this point according to his instruction, the pieces are partially there but ultimately inconsistent with the Family's instructions. You certainly DO NOT contract the back muscles. What basis do I have for these strong statements? Thirty years of training in the Family's system and many hours and years of hands-on training with Family descendants in HK.
Master Robert Amackervis the real thing. He came to my wing chun school in Amsterdam in the late 1990's while visiting his friend Roy Richardson. He shared insights with me that I have used ever since to help me with my martial arts and my life ever since -
please practice your inner chi more n more brother, will much better
Thank you for all of the new videos. I share them far and wide. We need to Make Sifu Bob more well known in the CMC lineage! Awesomeness!!!!
Awesome. I miss Sifu Bob, had way to little time with him. 😓 🙏🙏🙏 Rest In Peace Sifu.
Excellent as always.
Surely this isnt taught for any kind of self defence right ?
If you could elucidate the idea that chansijing is completely horizontal, that would be cool. This would be considered wrong in my lineage, but i suspect it's more of a verbiage issue than anything
Nice instruction! Especially appreciated how you explained keeping things round, not collapsing, and the details of keeping the back straight and the kua open. Earned a sub from a Chen guy!
Fascinating! I expect that there are other great masters of Taijiquan who move this way, but I've NEVER EVER heard anyone besides Bob use language to explain it, much less explain it so clearly and eloquently!
Fajin is needed for short range strikes with power
Ok, new question. I have now read a lot of your meditations on the form. In this work there is little talk of making tai chis, and much about connecting one's body and limbs in such a way that waves can be transmitted through it. So now i have a "HUGE" question. What does energy transmission have to do with making tai chis, which latter seems to, if anything, avoid energy transmission? Probably very stupid question, and I hereby embarrass myself in front of the billions of people on RUclips. Maybe I'll figure it out, either from further reading of your (magnificent) books, or by some other means. Thank you.
I didn't know people were still saying spazzing out
Thank you for the video. In case you see this, I will ask an unrelated question. Other teachers have us spend endless hours doing exercises for "releasing the joints ". I don't see any mention of releasing joints, pulling and pushing them open, etc. in either your (wonderful) book on the theoretical basis of tai chi. Is this because you think that such practices are not valuable, or simply that you can't cover everything important? Is there anything that you are willing to share about this? Thanks very much for all of your posts.
I cannot say for the other teachers, as far as I can understand the idea of releasing the joints (Bob Amacker was my teacher), it is important that the joints have the ability to change (open and close) to create chansijin movement both in arms and legs. Also to change according to the incoming force and have the ability to transfer the wave through the body. If the joints get “frozen” - this will bind the body in a rigid frame and the practitioner will be easily controlled by the partner or opponent, plus it is not a healthy state. Thank you for the question!
@@whitecrowtaijiquan Thank you for your response.
This is brilliant, thank you for sharing these insights.
Very nice, alive, dynamic!
I get the “egg” thing and have felt it with many people. But what about Hua jin?
I like your videos, but believe you are wrong about the first rule. You must work with the future, based on where the opponent is going. Of course where they are going is probably changing. Fortunately you only need to be a fraction of a second ahead of where the opponent actually is. Therefore you can "head them off at the pass" while remaining calm and centered.
Please do the technique several times in the beginning of video. Then discuss and do it again. This is good information but this constant stop and go without clearly showing the technique is annoying.
I'd say put the repetition at the end, explanation in the beginning.
Bob can jump nicely - obviously has has trained his legs….
Would it be fair to say that when the person is “leaning”, their root has been “pulled up”?
Totally inefficient in street fighthing, pop corn please good movie
How are you going to get good at street fighting without training? This is a training class, not fighting.
Fascinating!
this is not really TC. It is externalisms guised as TC qualities. People w/ this level skill will demo only on people physically weaker than they are
This is a video about training a specific skill in Taichi and is an explanation of what unelegant response your training partner can make to the airball that will require you to move on to another response, finding your opponent's double-weighted position, and then what to do with that. Finding the rhythm and waves is a high-level skill.
I like your explanations. Too many Taiji teachers have no good and clear way of explaining what they are doing.
TOO much movement for nothing!
I really appreciate this video. It gives clear reason why we practise some basic exercises about feeling rhythm and waves.
These videos clips of moments and insights from the classes are like gold dust being sprinkled for free on RUclips.
That’s a great observation.
First mistake is considering tai chi as a martial arts
Amen
I think this'll help me fix some of my shortcomings.
Try Jeet Kune Do is better
Love the headband
Such a valuable lesson! Instead, so many other teachers (in my experience) teach tucking the pelvis under.
As always, makes difficult matters very simple to understand...
😂😂😂
Bravo, accurate and impressive!!!
Very welcome!! ...
Gathering of the lower half of the intelligence curve.
This is golden
After replaying the video, I think i understand what you are saying, but as before I would need to try with an opponent to see how it feels.
I would need to experiment with someone in order to understand better.
🤔👍🏽
I'd like to hear more about the "open Taiji" concept Bob refers to.
To create a taiji (tai chi) or balance we need two points of contact with our partner. Open taiji - it's when you have one point of contact and you are in the process of creating a second point, but not connected yet. Thank you for your question.
Precisely my opponent is not you, my opponent is myself......
Bob is Genius. Very simple. Don't trap, just be a ball....
Man, always keeping the knees bent, lower stance, that is hard. I am a beginner four years with 24 form. Does this have elements of small frame? I am still sorting out different styles and their names, but movements are not truncated, but smaller than I am used to. The waist and hip rotation is really something. Thank you.
This is Yang Style long form (sometimes called 108 movements form) performed by Bob Amacker whitecrowtaiji.com/robertamacker. It can be done in a large frame and it should be done in the large frame when someone is still learning. After years and years of practice, when internal skills become second nature (muscular strength, winding movements of arms and legs, separations of substantial and insubstantial, etc), the practitioner will be able to do the form in a smaller frame and not lose all those skills, but be able to retain them all in a smaller size. As a result storing more power/energy in the movements. Thank you!
Wow. Just watching the footwork is informative.
As a student of taichiquan. What you said makes sense. You earned a subscriber.
time for you Bob to push with Lenzi Williams. You know him?
