The Washington Brass Institute, founded by Ken Wolff, is a collaboration of some of the regions top teachers and players of trumpet, trombone, euphonium, french horn and tuba, along with the support of many of the area’s school music teachers and youth programs, WBI was established as a referral service for vetted and accomplished brass teachers and to leverage the collaboration between them to create opportunities for small ensemble creation, workshops and summer programs. The Washington Brass Institute is also establishing partnerships with numerous professional organizations and will be offering collaborations with their artists and ensembles.

"The challenge here for ANY player at ALL levels is keeping the time steady, maintaining consistent articulation throughout the sixteenth notes, and ensuring dynamic contrast. With a time crunch to post this as a student resource, these areas in my performance need continued refinement. This would really benefit from more time with a metronome and a bit more focus on clear note beginnings at all dynamic levels. Lesson here, don't be in a hurry to run this at tempo. Play it well under tempo with a metronome throughout the entire month of September. Be sure to strive for vivid dynamics, as dynamics can make it harder to keep the time steady" Scott Herman, trumpet

"I recorded this around quarter = 68-70. The MMEA required tempo is too slow. Andante non troppo lento implies moderately slow but not too slow. Even slightly faster, this work requires a lot of stamina and control. "I prefer the opening to start slightly slower than marked with a little more freedom to push and pull time slightly. The huge challenge with the Largo is managing flexibility and endurance throughout a fairly demanding range for a junior level. I remember listening to Charlie Vernon as a 12 or 13 year old at the ETW barnacle Bill the sailor. It was very much an eye opening experience, of oh trombones can do this?? Then my parents bought me the music, 🤣. I definitely couldn’t do it
