Okiwayway's Bungalow
This is our little place on Lake Charlevoix available for rent through VRBO.
The cabin was formerly known as Betula. After the renovation which kept the former cabin largely intact by design we decided to name the cabin after my Wife and I's grandmothers who we loved dearly.

I have a big Maglite, tried hot water trick, liquid wrench soak etc. Even using 2 channel lock pliers I couldn't get the cap off. Seems to me, that if you google 'open maglite' and a bizzillion answers pop up, there is a FUNDAMENTAL DESIGN FLAW. Maybe I'll donate this monster I have.

Did you put the electrical tape on before you put it in hot water?

I changed batteries (3 pack) in a Coast flashlight. I believe I put it in upside down and wound up locking the cap end when I put it back together. Have any advice How to unlock the cap?? 😢

Tried it but didn't work. Two vise grips and still couldn't budge it. Ended up destroying the Maglite.

Sorry Eric. If it's any consolation. After getting it open the insidw was so corroded if was probably better buying a new one anyway. The whole inside was pitted

Yea, you'll want to heat it up woth out the tape. Dry it, then put the electrical tape on it. Vise drips or, in my case, pliers work

"She blinded me with SCIENCE!" Thank you professor! Heating up the casing did indeed work. I used hot water from the tap inside a tin can. I also attached a thick cable zip tie around it, pulling it tight. I secured the battery cap, surrounded by a cable zip tie, into a small vise. The cap released with no damage to the shiny blue chrome. As I suspected, the batteries did indeed leak. On to the next issue...
