Easy DIY Drawers and Shelves (for Shop Cabinet)
This video finishes off the miter saw workstation build I previous did by showing how to make drawers and shelves for a shop cabinet.
I make a highly-used workbench in my shop more useful by installing drawers and shelves underneath the bench. My goal in building out this shop is to reduce friction to work as much as possible.

    What model Delta dust collector is that? Is the suction better or worse after the mods? Usually the filter helps improve suction but the cyclone usually reduces it.

    • @rustyrockwoodcraft
      @rustyrockwoodcraft 3 месяца назад

      Its the Delta Model 50-760 dust collector. I've had it for 12+ years. It's been a great unit. The suction was much better after the pleated filter from Wynn Environmental. I ran 4" sewer pipe down the length of the wall (about 26 feet) and have several inlets with aluminum gates. It works great. I don't have a meter to test CFM difference after the mods, but it provides plenty of power.

    Everyone online in recent years are complaining about the blades, how they are only good for a few cuts even in easy stuff like EMT, the weld snapping, blade teeth burning out, etc. How are your blades holding up?

    • @rustyrockwoodcraft
      @rustyrockwoodcraft 3 месяца назад

      I would agree, they aren't a durable as I'd hoped. I replaced one after about 30 cuts. I bought a 3 pack and so far, still have two left. I found that if you don't push the blade too hard through the material, it lasts longer.

  • @MrPhoenix1800
    @MrPhoenix1800 4 месяца назад

    So just a tip I couldn’t see much of a gap between your guid rails. The consensus is you should leave a 1/8 inch gap between the two guides because they are not machined perfectly 90 on the ends.. that’s what I have heard.. I bought the saw with a 8.0 amp battery like you. I’m just waiting to get my guide now boy are those expensive

    • @rustyrockwoodcraft
      @rustyrockwoodcraft 4 месяца назад

      Good tip! I use a long straight-edge (Bora edge guide or a 4' level) when joining the tracks to confirm a straight edge. I found the two track sides that consistently work well together and leave the rail connectors in one track so I know which edges to join each time. Results (for my two tracks) have been consistent.

    how did you setup your packout for the saw?

    • @rustyrockwoodcraft
      @rustyrockwoodcraft 4 месяца назад

      I usually just take the dust bag off the saw and put both in the bottom of the Packout. I keep a battery on the saw so it doesn't rattle around. The Packout usually doesn't have anything else in it (maybe a spare blade). I don't worry about getting a bunch of sawdust in it as it is easy to dump out/clean. If I am concerned with the saw banging around (like when transporting), I'll throw an old towel in for padding. I keep the tray on the top for any other loose items that go with my circ saw workflow. It's a pretty simple setup.

    • @rustyrockwoodcraft
      @rustyrockwoodcraft 4 месяца назад

      I use the DCB609 batteries. These are the 9 amp hour (which is rated at 20v, so 3 amp hour at 60v). I own three of them which is sufficient for all-day cutting (with a battery on the charger at all times). You can find a 6 amp hour and 12 amp hour version of these batteries as well. The nice thing about Flexvolt is that you can use the 60v batteries on both 60v and 20v tools (hence, the ‘flex’).

    I didnt realize those holes allowed a piece of wood to extend but can you also flip it upside down and use against a raised surface instead? I also thought you couldnt use track guide at the same time as the vac attachment but it looks like it does work with the regular guide? What's the deepest plunge and routing that can be achieved with this tool, I think someone said 1 & 3/8 but what if I need 2-3"? Great review thanks!

    • @rustyrockwoodcraft
      @rustyrockwoodcraft 5 месяцев назад

      You can definitely flip it upside down to have a fence going up if needed. The vac attachment will fit with this guide. With the Woodpeckers router jig, it doesn't fit as well. For plunge depth, I wouldn't recommend overextending a bit. Especially if 1/4" (1/2" shank, you may be able to get away with). The vibration at the cutting head on the bit will be too unstable if you don't seat the shank into the collet well.

      Welcome aboard! You can definitely make a cleat holder for bolt cutters. I recommend 3/4 inch plywood (16 inches wide for all three, if I read the dimensions correctly). Use 3/4 inch dowels, cut about 4 inches long and glue into a 3/4 inch hole on the plywood to make the holder. I hang 11 lb hammers on those and it's plenty strong as long as you let the glue dry 24 hours before hanging the tools.
