Chuck Miller

I'm currently in a battle with the manufacturer of an external, spin up, hard drive. All of my father's video is on the drive which took a 13" fall to the floor. It's now unreadable. So far the claim is the data can't be extracted. It's very frustrating. So - nothing new down the pike for a while. 8.28.23
Some of the railfan videos of my late father, Charles R. Miller, will be presented here from time to time. Getting out was our fishing and our bonding. We sought out the ATSF prior to the merger and have some steam chases coming up. These are all privately owned, privately produced and all rights reserved. There's more to come. Please consider subscribing. Thanks!

Meet Me In Reading, Santa Fe
August of '96 and we're with CR at Reading, IL, a town west of Streator. They had a classy and very old frame passenger station on private property storing hay next to the elevator. This opens with a meet courtesy of SP trackage rights, has a GP-7 and the usual suspect post merger. BTW - the person around the tracks didn't belong to our little group.

Lawn Boy & the Santa Fe
Просмотров 36914 дней назад
CR is just west of Galesburg at the former Lawn Boy plant. It's 8.26.95 and the last month of the Santa Fe as a solo act. There's a small story. 5333 heads west, GP 20 3002 heads east running into the 12 hour rule first seeking a relief crew at Corwith, then Joliet, then Galesburg. It's a long train with interesting power. 5333 returns with the unit that caused the delay of 3002's train. SD 45s...

July 19, 1996, CR is just west of Elburn, IL seeking C&NW paint on the now merged UP main. Four full length trains and a Dinky. The first train has some interesting power.

Our favorite place, again. Pop and his video camera working the track speed long shots on the afternoon of 6.1.04 after a Wilburn visit. Streator is to the east, Chillicothe to the west. We were treated to 3 east bounds and 4 west bounds, TOFC, Stacks and an empty, one CSX with an SD 50. One can see a long, long way across these fields.

In the hands of BNSF the Illinois portion of the Transcon remains active in 2004. This is a pretty standard CR video feature 8 full-length trains, stack, UPS, mixed, and a healthy mix of power from BNSF, CN, BN, UP, Wisconsin Central, NS and Conrail shot Jun 1, 2004 at Wilburn, IL.

June 1, 2004 find CR on the outside of BNSF's curve at Ancona, IL. Semi-long shots of 4 or 5 trains, only one warbonnet but - SD's! Not too much graffiti. More soon if that external drive gets repaired.
BNSF West Ancona Avenue

June 1, 2004 CR is just west of Ancona, IL and grabs 5 in this short. There's bluebonnets, warbonnets, rental engines, UP on trackage rights, and one that slows for a red. Trains edited for time. More to come once an external drive gets repaired, that is if you want to subscribe. Thanks.

Crisp day at Kernan, IL east of Streator and a speed restriction through town. A few hotshots, Amtrak, CR even gets a shot of our intrepid little railfan car. Warbonnets, bluebonnets even a GP60B unit. Trains are full length. There's more to come. Please consider subscribing. Thanks.

We're at Ancona, again. CR has the video. It's basically a westbound parade with lots of EMD power of the day. SP, CSX, Rio Grande join war bonnets and blue bonnets, most at track speed. There's more to come. Please consider subscribing. Thanks.
BNSF Hotshots on a Cold Day at Ancona Pt 2

Jan. 22, '98 and the weather is "variable" at best. BNSF is trying to be as one but we're treated to a variety of paint, BN, AT&SF, Illinois Central and leased power on a roll. SD40-2s, GP60s with B units, B-40s, an F45 a BN C30-7, dash 8s and 9s...TOFC, stacks and mixed in the chill air of central IL. Trains are full length. There's more to come. Please consider subscribing. Thanks.

We had a deal - whatever the weather. CR's at the NE side of Ancona, Jan. '98. Usual variety of trains with an unusual amount of B-units. B40-8Ws, GP60B, BN and KCS SD40-2s, B30-7B, C44-9Ws....and it's freezing.
Southern Pacific Central IL Surprise

We're roaming Central IL between Dwight and Gardner chasing ex D&RGW GP40-2 and an SP B30-7. There's an elderly EMD switcher in consist and a rare caboose. 10.22.96 There's more to come. Please consider subscribing. Thanks.
Santa Fe's Ancona Crossover

Now BNSF, CR remains on the Santa Fe quest back at Ancona, IL. The crossover is active with an opening pass. We miss the freight that went into outlaw hours and is now parked on the south track waiting for a crew. Then we move to catch a couple more. SD75Ms, SD 45s, C41-8Ws, C44-9Ws, GP60s & a B unit . . . waning days of Santa Fe paint. There's more to come. Please consider subscribing. Thanks.

We enjoyed Ancona, obviously. CR's back for this short sequence before we headed west. Eastbound SW Chief, an over powered empty table train and TOFC. Last segment is west of Ancona. Usual Santa Fe - war and bluebonnets, SD40-2s, SD45-2s, B40s, GP60s with a B unit. There's more to come. Please consider subscribing. Thanks.

BNSF's Ancona, The Short and the Long of It
Very fast!
I grew up near there and I thought all those wooden bridges were torn down what road was that? Cool seeing the CNW engine’s . OK, I see the description now 1996
We really liked the bridge,s but they were a little aged!
Awesome vintage content!
Another good one from Mr. Miller. Your videos never disappoint!
Generous. Thanks. Pop enjoyed our travels. I'm still fussing about a hard drive disaster. I hope we'll get some more. Dunno.
Those were the days! Dash 8’s, Fp 45’s, GP 60m’s, tons of SD40-2’s. . The Warbonnet Paint Scheme was the best in my opinion.
And the Leslie RS3L and RS3K horns.
that first shot was an amazing catch!
That K3LA should have been on all the superfleet instead of the Leslie’s.
Nice to see 👍 I hired out on SF in 93, retired now. I miss it, and I don't miss it. I miss the old Santa Fe I guess.
Great videos! Good to see some more footage.
Merry Christmas Mr Millers upload more for both ATSF/BNSF trains im the future keep it up
Marry Christmas!
Merry Christmas, Millers
Merry Christmas!
That short tofc at the beginning could pass for a 90s version of the Super C
I miss 734 and this whistle. Hearing it echo off those hills in person is something else. Thanks for posting.
When I saw that lashup and the sun angle for the one @ 7:10 I thought, hmm, that looks familiar. I checked my slides and sure enough, that's me standing up there on the bridge!
Small town, great spot!
Cameron is a great location. Up and over the former CB & Q.
*From when life had colors.*
Im happy bnsf exists, but i think they should keep their swoosh mark and where the atsf ran should repaint half units into warbonnet ,and the other half to bn executive and or green and black with white nose stripes.
What an awesome beast! Full on Metal!!!
Great shots! Although- I have a suspicion that these might be taken from Burkhart Rd to the east of Kinsman
Thanks. If you look to the east, that's metropolitan downtown Ancona.
Wow what a great location to capture the last era of great railroading.
Thanks for the well wishes and kind words. 30 years...pop and his camera. Best of times.
Really amazing flight! Awesome B-17 bomber too! Today (Saturday, June 29, 1994) marks exactly 30 years since this footage was originally shot. Happy 30th Anniversary!!
For me its kind of cool seeing amtrak and santa fe both going almost at the same high speed
4:42 beautiful K5LA horn
The second train departing is one of the best Amtrak videos, ever. I find myself waving at the engineer every time.
That's very nice, thanks. Pop and his video...our fishing. The best of times.
Very cool!
8:07 WHHHHAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTT MONTANA RAIL LINK
dam i love thoes sd40 45 units the best ever built in my book
Scary Whistle I've Ever Heard!
Nice Catch!
What an awesome meet!
Fun place!
Wow! Long live the Santa Fe!
I really wish for those old days when there were 15 class A railroads
Man, I wish steamtown brought back 2317. Bring back its whistle to its former glory, get it restored, and get it running in the yard again. One of my favorite steam locomotives.
Is it wrong to say i watch videos like these at higher playback speeds? Mostly from 1.25-2x speed?
No, not if you do the same in real life😅
Starting out strong with that ABBA GP60 set
Great video, interesting to think that shipping times would be faster if railways like the Santa Fe were still around.
Do still, operate Christmas trains on the TP&w ?
No idea. They're under new ownership, G&W as I recall.
When I was little, the SDF40-2 locomotive was very scary for me
1:14
Awsome shot and beautiful K5LA
Thanks. My dad's version of fishing.
@@chuckmiller4871np and ooo that's awsome! 😮
There's something you don't see much, hood unit boosters.
Where were the SP trains going to and coming from and were there any SP manifest trains as well.
Sorry, all I recall about the SP traffic was they were on trackage rights. I don't recall SP manifests.
I believe those SP trains had trackage rights between Chicago and Kansas City. The trackage rights deal was inherited by Union Pacific and, I THINK, continues to this day.
Now this is the way to chase a steam locomotive.
We always had a blast. Thanks.
Yeah mad rode on the final excursion in 2002, so I have a bit of a personal connection with the old girl. I was only 9 when she was retired but I have a lot of fond memories of watching the old tapes from Greg Scholls that featured her.@@chuckmiller4871
Great video, I enjoyed it.
Thanks. We enjoyed the chase and the times.
The TOFC at 09:00 was hauling the f*** mail! Looked like 78-80 mph
Lots of horsepower!
Long live the santa fe
(1) The first scene shows a westbound crossing the Kankakee, Beaverville & Soouthern RR's ex-NYC line at Sheldon, Illinois. (2) Second shows the C&NW's WPE01 job, probably enroute from Adams Street Yard to the TP&W interchange at Sommer (they didn't do any switching at Bartonville). (3) P&PU 602 is working that day's "Kickapoo Job." The MP cylindrical covered hopper and open hopper seem odd, but Keystone Steel & Wire was still getting coke and limestone by rail in those days. (4) The TP&W local pulled through Iowa Junction and down the ex-Peoria Terminal (C&NW-owned) line so it could shove corn loads into ADM's Riverside Track/South Yard.
Hi Chuck Miller
It’s sad conrail is gone now as well
I really missed the Cabooses after they were scrapped.
