I’m really struggling to hear any difference whatsoever. Certainly nothing that will jump out once the rest of the band is mixed in IMHO. I do like the fact that the 604 is smaller though. Is the difference in build quality significant?

Use the great-sounding (and more portable) 16x12 and use a drum trigger to blend in your Bonham drum samples while playing live. Hybrid can make sense in a lot of cases.

What snare drum is that?

In this particular Mix 16 and 22. But IT IS always depending a lot on the band sound, especially the bass player. Another tune could give other results. And Loudness plays no role in a recording situation. When playing with the mates in the same room, you may wanna have enough air to move from your kick. Thats why I am using a seperate 18" Subwoofer loudspeaker for my kick.

Of course, there's no proof he didn't want the 14" to sound better with a little post help.
