If You've Always Failed At This Point

Look back at all those times you weren't able to push through and ask yourself in the kindest way possible... Why? What did you need then to push through? What did you not know then that you know now? What can you give yourself now that you didn't have then? Your past "failures" are not evidence that you can't do it now. They are only examples to tell you what you need to do differently now. Ne...

Going all in or having safe foods? Bulimia & Binge Eating Recovery

All in works for some people. Having “bridge” safe foods works for others. Sometimes it’s a combo of both. Today’s podcast episode covers what I did, what I see people do, and ideas that aren’t one or the other. In short - I had bridge-safety foods I ate daily that I knew I wouldn’t binge on. I didn’t keep binge foods in the house like bags of chips, cereal, or large tubs of icecream. This allo...

Started lisening as it's very hard to find something on EDs and pregnancy/motherhood but i am already not sure i agree with this. Talking from personal experience with 2 kids and an active ED, it's not easy and is very risky. Your own health and health of your baby can be jeperdised because of certain behaviours in pregnancy, ED increases the risk of postpartum depression, it's more difficult to breastfeed and make sure you have constant supply for the baby and don't even get me started with modelling healthy normal eating when they are older. So yes, you can go ahead and get pregnant while having an ED but i would highly recommend to give recovery a good go before that

What you're describing is a physiological reaction to the increased fluctuations in glucose and insulin - insulin affects mood, it crosses the blood brain barrier and has more roles throughout the body - that you get due to multiple disease pathways when you consume NOVA 3 and NOVA 4 edible food-like substances. These are the only substances people binge upon, including weight-loss-oriented Frankenfoods full of appetite-stimulating artificial sweeteners, which is why bingeing (unlike anorexia, which becomes more common where people consume these substances but can also occur without them) only starts and still only happens in cultures that start consuming these fake foods. You can't get addicted to and clinically binge upon real foods, even the high-fat, high-sugar foods, anymore than you can get addicted to alcohol-free cider. If you eat real bread (made on the premises you buy it from that same day), real cake and real pizza, meaning 100% homemade from the base to the sauces, it has been proven that you MUCH eat less of it and don't go back for seconds, despite equally liking the taste as the food-like substances that get packaged and sold as "wholemeal bread", "frozen pizza" and "cake" but which destroy your gut biome, rewire your brain's reward system, alter the way your insulin works, ruin your brain health by being full of added omega 6 oils, and more. This was an experiment that kept the compared meals as similar as possible and controlled for sugar, fat, salt etc. It was the ultra processing that made all the difference to how much people ate. The WHO, Harvard and Cambridge Universities have all raised the alarm recently on these "ultra processed foods" being the REAL cause of everything that has previously been blamed on other aspects of diet (due to the design flaw of never studying homemade versions of high-fat, high-sugar foods, only the processed versions), including the previously uncommon urge to overeat and inability to maintain a healthy weight that afflicted more and more Americans from the 1960s onwards as new processing methods very slowly replaced traditional food, and then afflicted people from every region of the world that adopted those processing methods thereafter. But they have a very broad focus, not mentioning the big three EDs despite talking about obesity a lot. EDs just get forgotten about by non-specialists despite how common they are. Not everyone is leaving EDs out of this revolutionary shift in (mainstream) understanding of exactly what type of consumption causes "modern illnesses" though, a few are thankfully passionate about it, I've seen them interviewed, and it's so refreshing to see experts not just gaslighting ED patients with the "all the bingeable products corporations are selling to you as food are fine, don't abstain from them the way I tell alcohol addicts to, cos they aren't harmful like alcohol is, keep buying them like a good citizen, you are the problem, you are mentally broken, just stop thinking the way you think and you will not crave this HIGHLY ADDICTIVE SUBSTANCE even if you consume it everyday as I'm encouraging you to" mentality. E.g., this paper lays out in detail the mechanisms of why these substances, formulated by trial and error in focus testing to fool the brain into not feeling satisfied, i.e. that "sad" feeling you talk about, are what the genetically vulnerable people become addicted to and periodically binge upon (it's never home-steamed carrots or freshly baked bread with natural butter, according to surveys of patients, it's always NOVA 3 and NOVA 4), instead of overconsuming on a regular basis without clinical binges like most of their peers. It is called "The modern Western diet: a blind spot in eating disorder research?"

I would like to improve my relationship with food, I want it to be peaceful and nurturing, treating myself with compassion, without restriction or binge eating. It is very brave to open up about this topic 😊 thanks for your insights. After watching your episode, I decided not to go to buy binge foods because as you mentioned I realized it was a short lived moment. I highly appreciate when you explain your thought 💬💭 process in a detailed, relatable, in-depth and honest way. The idea 💡 of anxiety as energy is a very helpful one as well as the thought of thinking that I am not a binge eater anymore. We know that the cost outweighs the benefits but in this moment it is sometimes difficult to stay committed to the healing and recovery journey. Pausing (and for religious people praying) is crucial.
