He held a concert, donated all the money, and then paid an additional $150,000 out of his own pocket because they came up short of the $ needed. also when donations were stagnant , he did a benefit concert to bolster interest...His only caveat was that there was no plaque saying it was dedicated by him, or any mention of him.

My Godfather was on the USS Vestal that was tied to the USS Arizona on December 7th, 1941. He was on deck when the attack started. He was tossed overboard by the concussion of the Japanese bomb that struck the powder magazine! He was pulled back onto the Vestal and grabbed a axe to cut the lines to the Arizona. The Vestal was under full power and attempted to get away from the burning Arizona.
