@@joopsmit6910also to mention that im doing the exact procedure here to test the relay and its pulling that little spring bridge after a couple seconds, and when it lets go giving that clicking noise i go ahead press down on that spring bridge to give it another cycle for a split second and i can feel the heat on the relay yet the glow plug light isn't coming on.. to make things simple would that be the relay or just a faulty glow plug light?

OM616 is the 2.4L and still my favourite engine. They are great engines, reliable and very fuel efficient. The OM617 is the 5 cylinder 3.0L which I also have but it is more tricky to work on and far less fuel efficient than the 240D

@@joopsmit6910 that’s right, there is a company called Force Motors in India which manufactures the 2.6 OM616 engine (2596 cc) under the license of Daimler Benz. They use it for their buses and other passenger cars. I thought it was the same engine with a bumped up displacement.

@@dowlat454 oh wow I did not know that, that is great. I can only imagine what a nice engine it must be. Seems like Benz granted licenses for manufacture in a few countries. In South Africa they were called ADE engines for trucks, but the cars remained German manufactured and assembled here.

@@dowlat454 It's not an OM616. It is a newer engine, BASED on the OM616 design. It is more powerful than the 616, so there's that. Don't know about reliability, although the 616 design goes back much farther than the advent of the 2.4, so from a design standpoint, it should last a while.

Probably the most reliable engines ever designed and will run Biodiesel and well made Blackdiesel too. 240D engines are right up there too and more fuel efficient.

Hello Edward. Set the engine to 35° BTDC. Turn the injection pump to the nr.1 position when the notch is at about 11 o'clock position. Now insert the pump. Here I used 40° but 35° leaves more space to time it this way

And yes on the right side of the marker is correct

Hi Nathan. Nice! Yup here in Africa you won't believe the stuff that grow in the tanks. This car's tank will get a good internal powerwash and disinfect with alcohol to kill all that anearobic algea in there. It's really gotten out of hand in there.

Yup! It had a "use for this project only" hole saw and a willing Bosch brushless cordless drill behind it.

Hello Jay. YES! I have a '80 240D as a daily and when the engine is looked after they run reliably, cheap, albeit slow. The last one in the video is mine. Easy to work on, if you are in the USA parts are easy to find and tonnes of advice. They will run on BioDiesel, Black diesel (if you get the mix right) and Diesel/WVO mixes too.

Agree on Volvo i have both Volvo turbo and NA versions of 2.3l, those engines are indestructible literally!

The actual injection timing is 24* BTDC, but the pump will tend to roll back since the first lifter is slightly compressed. The trick is to set the engine at 45* BTDC and set the pump 2 teeth before start of injection, since then it will not snap back and will be easy to set

@@petarmiletic997 I absolutely agree. I have found another way which works great on the 240D and 300D for me, when I re-assemble my 300D I will post a video of how I do that, pretty simple and works like a charm for me at least.
