a beautiful week to be forced outside and many mountains were climbed. not a beautiful week to be forced to work when I wasn't expecting to. I was feeling the pressure with the late night outdoor workouts and other priorities, like my poor sister's bedroom that I have destroyed, to attend to. peace love mommy nature

when I discover something new to do, I hyper-fixate on it. this weeks activity was playing wall-ball. I honestly had so much fun running around with my lacrosse stick. the exhaustion is also starting to really hit. i’m getting stuck in a cycle of being up late and waking up early and still not having the time (or time management) to get everything done. i love it & i hate it

only a week in & things are starting to get repetitive. walk, work, walk, workout, walk, work… you get it. some yoga & hikes here and there. i am loving the time that i have been spending outside & the way my body feels when it is getting the nutrition it needs. this is still just the beginning!

i am a glutton for punishment but i also needed a change to the way i was living leading up to this. post graduate, living with my parents was quickly starting to resemble pre-college, teenage years full of bad habits and angst. i needed change. i needed a challenge. i needed something to push myself far, far away from ways of sixteen year old me. alas, 75 hard days began!

    Hello! I am moving in to Mell Hall this upcoming August and was curious if you had the link to those tables you were building in the video? I know its been some time, so if you don't have it that is perfectly fine! Also, if you have any tips for me on dorm essentials when it comes to furniture, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    • @oliviaheck1405
      @oliviaheck1405 Месяц назад

      I wish I would have seen your comment sooner! I hope you have been LOVING your first month in Mell!! The tables are from Ikea and lasted me all four years of college. After using them as a coffee table in my dorm, I used them as side tables in my apartments! www.ikea.com/us/en/p/lack-side-table-white-stained-oak-effect-70319028/#content Having a futon was crucial for us if we ever had company. We could pull that out, move the Ikea tables, and add an air mattress. I kept all my shoes in a long, flat storage container under the futon to save room in my closet. This was super helpful. Getting a plastic dresser to go in the closet also made the most of the room in there. My roommate and I both had a rolling cart we kept on either side of the sink for toiletries/bathroom items. We also had a makeshift kitchen area under her bed (the futon was under mine). Mell has a LOT of built in storage as far as dorms go, so mostly just utilize what they give you. I planned on doing a finished dorm tour, but we got sent home for covid before I could ): I do have a few other videos that show our dorm slightly more lived in and used, if you’re interested in seeing that!

Also did you use crampons for the ice part? Lastly what time did you guys make it down on the last day? Thanks and great video by the way!!

    • @oliviaheck1405
      @oliviaheck1405 Год назад

      So exciting to hear you’ll be doing this route! It’s amazing. We did the hike in early June and the huts got extremely cold. I believe we had -30 degree sleeping bags that could zip all the up around our heads. We did not use crampons, just good hiking boots and walking sticks. You probably won’t run into much ice or snow though! We got back to Marangu gate around 2:30 pm, but we had to stay at the gate for a long time having lunch and giving our information for certificates! Glad you enjoyed the video! Good luck!!

    I am climbing the same route to summit this August. I am not a experienced hiker and I read articles saying this route is difficult due to shorter time frame. Do you think beginner can do this hike?

    • @oliviaheck1405
      @oliviaheck1405 Год назад

      We had many inexperienced people who successfully did this climb. I think the main reason that this route is considered harder is because of the limited acclimatization time compared to other routes. Even the most experienced hikers can’t really train for altitude which is why acclimatization is super important. I think you’d be just fine!

    What type of club would you recommend? I want to be a bev cart girl so bad but some “elite” clubs have no tipping policies and don’t accept cash/cards. I got hired for a club and they literally have a no tip policy. Should I do a elite/private club or public?

    • @oliviaheck1405
      @oliviaheck1405 Год назад

      I think that depends on what you want. If the hourly pay is high enough then a no tipping policy may be okay, but I make 95% of my money off tips. Private golf clubs will have a lot more regulars (since you can only golf if you’re a member) and public clubs will have different people each day with the regulars mixed in here and there. I personally love working at a public golf club because I get a mix of both. With that being said, public golf course will have a lot more teenagers (i would assume) that you don’t make much money off of, but there are also people in there early 20’s, like me, who like to have fun and pay well most of the time. I also love the more laid back vibe of the golf club I am at and feel like I would be soooo stressed if I had to keep up an “elite” persona. I think a good in between for an “elite” club and a public golf course would be something like a private club. All that being said, I have only ever worked at this public golf course so that’s the only experience I have to speak on. I do absolutely love it though.

    Hey, Olivia! Thanks for this video, it's so useful🙌 Actually, I want to be a bev cart girl, but I'm a bit afraid because I've never worked as a salesperson or anything like that. I don't know exactly how to ring up a customer, although I think I'll get the hang of it after a while. By the way, do you find this job stressful or not? Did you feel exhausted after a day at work?

    • @oliviaheck1405
      @oliviaheck1405 Год назад

      Hi! i’m glad you enjoyed the video (: Being a waitress/bev cart girl was the first job I ever had aside from babysitting and lifeguarding and was definitely nervous at first, but you definitely learn how to sell things and use the system to ring customers up fairly quickly. you’ll learn tips and tricks over time to increase your sales and give people what they want. and yes this job can be exhausting on busy summer days and more physically demanding than people think. you are in the heat (or freezing cold this time of year), on your feet quite a bit, doing all of the work yourself, and having different conversations all day. I’m so tired and dirty and sweaty after a super long day, and it can be stressful when you have large groups getting lots of different things, but I personally think it is worth it.
