This channel is mostly a personal vlog about my outdoors adventures/nature in the Pacific Northwest. Lately I am posting a lot of post-swim videos about wild/open water swimming in the Salish Sea of Washington (state).
Wild Swim Seattle: Early Fall Sunshine +Regatta
Sailboats drawing closer, heading back to the marina just south of where we swim. Brilliant breezy October day, cooler but not cold yet. Perfect! Air low 60sF and water mid 50sF. Best time of year to swim!

First time swimming at Alki in West Seattle, where my great great grandparents settled in the late 1860s and owned the long gone Stockade Hotel above the beach where I swam. Exciting swimming with heavy wave action!

Best time of year to swim in the Salish Sea. Water about 56F, 20 minutes today of freestyle and breaststroke. Fall is in the air, and it won't get much warmer again until next spring.

Rain, some wind, and water temps already cooling a bit as unusually wet and cool weather even for Seattle lands for a few days. 20 minutes in the clear, chilly water, my second swim of the day. Air high 50s F, water probably a bit lower

August and September are the best time of the year for warmer water and marvelous underwater views in Puget Sound/Salish Sea. Especially on cloudy mornings before the crowds arrive. I don't want to get out of the water after my swim! Today water probably 57 or so, air low.60s F with a breeze for wind chill. 20 minutes swimming, just saw one jellyfish

Such calm river here in Milwaukee just south of Portland. In the water for almost 45 minutes! water temp must be at least 70F. A different experience than the salt water for sure, but easy.

With water quality warnings at our usual haunts, we went a couple miles north for our first swim at another park. More "wild" but also more rocky. Water probably 50 or so, air highs 50s , breezy.

Thanks! It was indeed a glorious afternoon! Just got back from a morning swim today, about 20 degrees cooler and choppier sea, but still gorgeous.

love the snow capped mountains, the cherry blossoms amongst the other trees....before you said it might be chilly I felt cold and thought....that is beautiful but it looks cold!

Yup, rarely go alone and always cautious! It was super fun riding those waves.

Thanks for the walk Jill. I do not remember that big house on the ridgeline...that is a home...right...not a condo...I think about that cliff...and then visualize parts of Magnolia Bluff that soughed off and Salmon Beach in Tacoma...it was nice to see so many young cedar on your walk.
Hey Suezy! That walk was at the northern edge of Seattle at the southern border of the Highlands, Lots of these gullys, great places to walk. Thanks for the comment as always! and yes always happy to see young cedars, but they mostly need watering now to survive into adulthood.

every time you post a tide like this, all my senses kick into gear...I smell the sea, and sea life, taste the salty air. I hear the sounds...even the smallest sounds of the barnacles squeeing, shore birds, a small boat of in the distance...the thrum of the waves......maybe even the sound of the train that will soon pass by...but if not, I'll feel the distant rumble as it approaches us and passes by. Hope you had a great swim!!

OH! The mountains looks so pretty with the sunlight on the peaks. Yes...brrr....even talking about wind chill made me shiver. We are on Tornado watch for another hour...lots of flashy lightning and bold thunder.
