Hi Matthew … I have had my RX7 since 2019 … don’t have the built log … it has been a race car since early 2000s and had some great racing upgrades done by Robinson Racing at some point in 2005 or so.

@@matthewcastor1298 sure bud … basically a Mariah Fiberglass fenders all around, fiberglass hood, 15”x7 wheels running primarily 245s Hoosiers, Koni adjustable struts front with 600lbs springs, and KYB adjustable in the rear with 200lbs springs

Yes when using the Weber … it can idle lower at 1.5K as well … For racing application is not abnormal to idle at 2K

@@starwarsracingyuricollazos5468 Right on, thanks for the reply. Yeah it starts up fine idols good other than what I thought was a high RPM. No hiccups throughout the RPM range either… might as well not mess with it if it's running right.

@@josephfriedrich9792 I guess the bigger the carb, it needs a little more idle … but you can test to lower it (it may sound slightly different but still good) … I am always more worried about the AFR (just make sure it’s not lean)

The 12A found in the RX7 came out with 100-108hp depending on year and trim package. The carb'ed 13B came factory with 130-ish HP as found in the GLSE RX7 in 85. From 1970 to 1974, the RX2 also used the 12A and it produced 130hp during it's run (the same power as the GLSE 13B motor in 85, despite have a smaller displacement). The original Mazda Wankel found in the Cosmo, the 10A (0810 / L10A) produced 110hp in 1965 despite the rotary being relatively undeveloped (being first year for the whole engine concept) and "significantly" smaller than the 12A (0.9 liter vs 1.1 liter) found in 78-85 models. To answer your question: Rotaries are easy to get power out of. Like all engines from the mid 70s to mid-late 80s, the combination of the oil crisis and kicking down the doors with the then-new emissions regulations, everything was restrictive and choked down for emissions bullcrap. This is why the later engines were watered down. It's literally as simple as bolt ons. FIRST OFF, delete the rat's best. Second, a good intake with a matching carb of choice (some people choose Holley 4 barrels, other choose Webers or similar, normally the 48 IDA or the 45 DCOE or the 48 DCOE). Aftermarket header and free flowing exhaust. Convert from mechanical to electric fan, to reduce parasitic loss. Tune the puppy just right and the 12A is good for probably 150hp on the stock ports, and the 13B is probably good for 170-180. Throw a street port in there and tune it up more and a 12A is good for probably around 180hp and the 13B is good for the 210-230hp range. Obviously, you're mileage may very. A Bridgeport without boost is pretty much going to perform the same as a modest street port, but you will sacrifice both economy and reliability, both of which are already "left more to be desired" even in factory spec engines; the only REAL benefit from a Bridgeport in an n/a application is the sound, and that's it. NOW, all this being said, keep in mind the cooling system was originally designed for the factory 100-130hp outputs. You want more power, you're going to generate more heat. This is one of most common causes of rotary failure behind lack of lubrication (faulty OMP) and carbon fouling your apex seals. I would recommend at LEAST upgrade the radiator to a 2 core to accommodate mods. You probably won't need to worry about going to an electric / high flow water pump until you start pushing 300 or above. Failure to keep your cooling system in check with mods, can cause total failure of the rotor housings, normally in the form of a crack between the leading and trailing plug. Also keep in mind that the stock tranny is borderline garbage, barely capable of handling STOCK 13B output (it's not uncommon for them to shear gears or jam in gear with some serious pulls). You can use the RWD Miata or B2000/B2200 transmission for the 12A / non-turbo 13B, all you have to do is swap the bell housing and tailhousing from your RX7 transmission and cut the input shaft about a half inch. If you're using the Turbo II transmission found in the later FC RX7s, you can use the transmission casing from a B2600 doing the same housing swaps and "nose job" (note: the B2600i is excluded because that is actually Mitsubishi stuff, not Mazda) and these transmission are going to be quite a bit more robust, but they are a bit more of a close ratio transmission compared to the RX7 trannies.
