A Journey rarity, recorded sometime between 1974 and 1977, featuring excellent solos by Gregg Rolie on the Rhodes piano and the Minimoog, as well as Neal Schon on guitar. The line up is likely Neal Schon, Gregg Rolie, Ross Valory, and Aynsley Dunbar.

Journey - Can You Hear Me - Winterland December 31st, 1973
Просмотров 1 тыс.6 лет назад
At Journey's first concert, they played with Santana and Azteca. Both of these bands had previously recorded and toured with Neal Schon. The studio version of this song is featured on the Charge of the Light Brigade demo bootleg album. This version is played much faster than the demo. Taken from the Winterland 1973 bootleg: dixiehighway.rocks/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=116

Yes, DREAM, AFTER DREAM, that rare album, a soundtrack of a movie, that obviously never will find its was outside Japan... An album to hear some great recordings like this one with all five members in very, very fine condition. I like to hear this in connection to DEPARTURE, think, they are from rhe same heart and mind.

The word "demo" is being thrown around here. This is not a demo. This is an early mix of the final track. This is the released version before the orchestra was added. These are the final performances before the background vocals were mixed, before the EQ, etc. It is interesting to hear in THAT respect, but this is no demo. It is an unfinished mix of the final product.

Think so too! What I miss for years since I know this soundtrack (via Japanese import only) is to see the movie this was written for... It seems nowhere being available. Also Japanese people at age over 50 don't know this film anyhow.

This may indeed be a demo however if you compare it to the released version, it's the exact same song (instruments and main vocals) just without the strings and without some overdubs on the chorus section. Everything else appears identical. So looks like they took this demo and just spruced it up for the actual release. Good stuff though.

Fleischman left was dismissed at one of Journey's shows in Long Beach - August 11 or 12, 1977, so he was still with the band on August 4, 1977. Steve Perry was brought into the band in September, 1977; first concert was October 1, 1977 (not the 28th as so many believe), and he was officially signed on October 10, 1977. There is a review of the band's first show with Steve in the San Francisco Chronicle, dated October 6, 1977. They recorded the Infinity album in November & December 1977; it was released January 20, 1978. After August 1977, Journey wasn't back at the Cow Palace until December 31, 1977...with Steve Perry.

Yeah! Pre-Perry Journey, I loved Journey (pp) a helluva lot better. I saw them and Montrose at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, one of my favorite concerts of all time, at one of the best venues possible. It was around the mid-seventies, I've searched the internet high and low and can't find it. Perry, in my opinion ruined Journey. Those original guys are all musical geniuses and their music was some of best available. Once Perry got with them, they started oozing bubblegum!

@willgilkey8789 You are so right. "Oozing Bubblegum" I caught the pre Perry Journey on Cape Cod in 75 and again in Boston in 1976 & 77. What a Wonderful, amazing band. When Perry joined, it was like Pink Floyd becoming the Partridge Family or turning Led Zeppelin into The Cowsills, oozing bubblegum !
