Thrawn Wants Scoundrels To Know Utter Defeat - A Star Wars: Shatterpoint Battle Report [Gameplay]
This game features the Scoundrels Lord Maul and Lando versus Thrawn and Crosshair in another Star Wars: Shatterpoint Battle Report.
This game was recorded by me at Mox Boarding House in Bellevue during a local tournament. Huge Shout Out to the players for letting me record their match.
Correction:
43:50 - I thought that Detain was Pin and Disarm because I was reading from Shatterpoint DB and it was wrong. My apologies for that error.

Are games like Star Wars: Shatterpoint designed with an even amount of play time for both players? Aman from Hello There joins me to discuss how much even play time is factored into the design of characters. Thank You to David Carl and Jeff Olsen for sharing some insight with me as we were doing some research on this topic.

When the staff for Atomic Mass Games says that Star Wars: Shatterpoint is a "Co-opetitive" Game, what does that mean? We checked out a new Interview on the Grey Squadron Gaming channel and they had an interview with Will that prompted us to discuss this. ruclips.net/video/Bjcgbc6Y9oc/видео.htmlsi=c5tpWDdU9h0gWoAS&t=2817
What's your Counter? A Star Wars: Shatterpoint Discussion

The question of "What's your Counter?" in Star Wars: Shatterpoint is an important one. Examining the strength of your list and what you are struggling with can help you figure out what else to include in your Premier list or how to change your existing Strike Team. I am also very thankful that Dyzard helps me tackle this topic for my first Shatterpoint discussion on this channel.

The video quality is amazing! What’s your setup?
I keep it pretty simple. Its a Go Pro Hero 11 with a simple adjustable stand I got off amazon. Then a few extra bits to hold the go pro just how i want it.
Lando Maul is a crazy pairing Im excited to watch this
Loving the content, and as a regular obi opponent I feel the pain with forgetting to block the dash back up an ingress point. Would love a 1 min breakdown on the table before the game starts. Just highlighting ingress points and what’s at 2 levels of elevation vs what’s at 1 level would be appreciated, it can be hard to tell with the top down view. Cheers
Chiss martial arts absolutely are no joke! However, one must LanDO or LanDON'T to learn them! All kidding aside, love the commentary. You are giving us plenty of fresh insight into how to think through our activations. I appreciate it right now, because I'm not playing as much during the holidays. Keeping it fresh in mind!
You would have loved seeing Donovan losing to that pun.
Great video, really enjoyed it
Interesting discussions 😊 I also went from GW ti warmachine and was a little skeptical to play without chess clocks. However, after hosting 17 tournaments i found that the rules that AMG has made feels much more fun than winning or losing on the clock. We have adjusted tha time so we play 2h and 15 min with mission critical starting at 1h and 30 min amd almost never have games end in time anymore.
I'm painting Lando right now and are looking forward to get him on the table tomorrow. I think that he will be great with both Leias and Han giving excess to advance scoundrels are going to be amazing. Also so hyped for Lobot and what he can do with secondaries. He can dash Wrecker 3 times in his activation and that's crazy ❤
Great commentary and a good-looking table setup! Thanks for sharing!
I appreciate you saying so! I am looking forward to adding more color to this table too.
Just discovered your channel. Great commentary. How come you stopped covering MCP?
Welcome! I took about 6 months off from all minis games and tgen Shatterpoint brought me back. I am still watching the MCP releases and looking for something to inspire me.
Another excellent video with lots of learning points. The way you walk through the decision process and possible other plays makes these very very rich. I will share with a friend who is looking to start playing Obi-Bad Batch, it will be a great primer for him :)
Thank You for the encouragement. Its comments like this that make me hyped to record more of them.
@@omnusprotocol I was inspired to put down the Obiwan - Bad Batch squad after the video and boy did they perform well :) Advice from the video also came in handy. Please continue with the series :D
Great coverage! I appreciate the analysis throughout. I haven't had a chance to put either of these lists on the table yet, and you do an excellent job of succinctly explaining not just the players' decisions but also the ways the activations could go!
I aim for Momentous Coverage :)
Lol I’ve not only played High Command, I still have the set in storage. Haven’t even looked at those cards in years!
These videos have been awesome as a group of my friends have just started playing and learning some of the finer points has been great while watching your videos!
That's awesome to hear! It is always nice knowing that the work put into these is helping new players out. Thanks for letting me know!
22:23 So on the cover 5th bro would have it no matter where you shot him from. As you stated he was under the top part of the high ground terrain piece. If the coverts were on top shooting down 5th bro is within 1 of terrain that is equal or higher.
8:17 How many success did Ezra get? 2? Out of 10 dice? Big ouch. If it was 4 success him not healing himself seems weird since he wasn't wounding.
27:42 Lando r2 need to roll 2 fails to get expose. Not just 1. Not sure if he did either time
@@godlyness2811 after blocks Ezra went two down.
@@godlyness2811 i dont recall the actual roll. But you are definitely right that it requires two, bot one.
Great video and commentary. Would you ever do a video on combat timing and how hunker/cover works?
@@jordybordy007 I might do that sort of instructional video but its not in my immediate plans. For the moment I want to focus getting the commentary improved.
Great Video. The analysis is great and the commentary allows you to follow along well. Interesting how the game could have changed on a couple different choices.
@@RTGamerUSA thanks man and you are are totally right. I think a few small choices completely changed the game.
Thank you for doing these videos, the commentaries are very insightful and appreciated! It helps a lot for upping game play and skills :)
I appreciate the encouragement! I am planning to record more this weekend and great comments like this make me hyped to work on the next one.
@@omnusprotocol great to hear that more is coming :) My gameplay got instantly elevated with what I have learned from these videos :D
@@halilkardicali7738 I am running a local tournament this weekend and as long as the windstorm we are dealing with doesn't ruin that, then I plan to record 3 games and do commentary for all of them.
Just finished this one! You know what I like thd most? Your narration is so clear and direct that I could follow the game even when I wasn't looking at the screen!!!
I do it just for you. I remind myself, "Don't mess this up, Aubrey is going to listen and you don't want to disappoint your hero."
Really been enjoying these - great to have the commentary on top of gameplay.
Thanks! The store audio is kind of messy so i am definitely sticking with the commentary to make the games easier to follow.
24:16 mando can and should have removed condtions from bossk igs etc.
1:00:19 I don't think bossk is within 2 of princess to be healed
@@godlyness2811 i think you are right. I missed that.
@godlyness2811 i believe that heal was from "It's a wonder you're still alive" which doesn't have restriction.
@@omnusprotocol While true then princess Leia gets to dash. Not ig. the active is not choose two units one dashs one heals. It's choose princess Leia and another unit.
@@godlyness2811 Thanks for reminding me, you are totally right. I forgot that was choose her and someone else. I caught another mistake I made with her. There is a lot of subtlety to keep straight with her abilities.
shirt=winning
You mean my shirt right?!
look forward to seeing more!
always love Batreps keep em coming!
And i love you
Good stuff! Might be nice to throw up a visual of the two lists even if it is just during the intro
@@dynamc8 thats a good idea!
Important: Bear Game 100% on Point. Less important: I do not feel equal time is necessary I think the game at it's design/development should be able to be played in the time they suggest even if there is 2 people playing the more complex lists. If it takes way more time for those additions to be played then it is probably not designed correctly for the game. Should there be some wiggle room in round times? If possible sure. Everyone wants to finish their games. That 4hr time slot sounds both wonderful and terrible that Aman mentioned lol.
@@RTGamerUSA i think this is the realization i came to working on this ep.
One thing coming from card games to miniature games, is that you no longer have to chase the rare. So you just buy what you want to play and you have it. You’re not popping packs and hoping you get what you want. Or going online and buying singles for an outrageous amount. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to a card game.
You're totally right. We sorta stayed on the playing differences and didn't even get to the buying.
Content? Good. Shirt game? Great!!!
yeah i definitely lost the cool shirt competition on this one.
The Star Wars CCG by Decipher?!!!
Yes, I did play it back in the day.
@@omnusprotocolthat was my first card game!!! I played that so much as a kid. Well, when I could get my friends to do it. Too complex for our baby brains...
@@aubreywhite3190 i just remember having an empire deck. I don't remember much beyond that.
I was a volunteer for Decipher from 1997-2001. I ran local tournaments in Minnesota all the time.
@@DarthDion That's awesome!!!
I second it. The Matt shirt is on point.
#ShirtGameStrong
Matt's shirt has a greatness level of Cad Bane. Am I OP now?

So what I'm hearing is Empire is terrible and you shouldn't play it. 😇
Nailed it : )
As an MCP player who has never considered playing Shatterpoint, what is/are the biggest selling point(s) that would help me decide whether Shatterpoint might appeal to me? (Fan of only the original trilogy)
1) The scale of Shatterpoint is slightly larger than MCP which is just fun to paint and cool on the table. 2) The game is much more about play the game than it is about list building and deployment compared to MCP. Those things still matter but they are less of a factor. 3) Its rare that characters leave the table, so you always get to do cool stuff with your favorite characters. They never leave the table before you get to activate them. 4) The dice system is really interesting because two characters can roll the same amount of dice but when Luke rolls dice, each success does more than one success from a stormtrooper. 5) The random order deck removes a lot of analysis paralysis. Its not about finding the perfect order to do everything, its about make the best play with that character when they come up in the order deck. This is something that turns people away but i really prefer figuring out the best play for that character than wasting time figuring out the best play for everyone that is left every activation. I hope this helps!
Another thing I like about Shatterpoint is the terrain and how it is used in the game. This game has more verticality than any other gaming systems I've seen.
@@aubreywhite3190 You are so right. Terrain and table set up is actually my favorite part of the game.
Super helpful
How can I get my hands on a beautiful mat such as that? Been wanting one with the objective markers already laid out for me to save time on set up. Love your content, keep it up!
@24:17 Proxima was placed with her base not fully seated into the movement tool. I thought AMG specifically stated that you can't measure movement from tip to tip? Base has to be seated within the curve of the movement tool, no?
For moving a model, you socket the base and then place the character touching the movement tool. Which can be anywhere including the tip of the tool. If you are resolving a push or throw, you socket on both sides of the tool
What was the reason for Hulk to throw terrain into another building on his first activation? I feel like I'm missing something.
Sometimes characters want them out of the way for positioning reasons. Or they dont want opponents to be able to throw them.
really enjoying these videos! thanks for putting them up! any thought to having a painted model requirement for future events?
Its something we are keeping an eye on but first priority is creating the top level of competitive play. Eventually we want to be streaming and at that point maybe the Invitational will be painting required.
your priorities definitely make sense. fortunately it would only require 10 painted models which I think most competitive minded people could pretty easily manage to still compete, its not as big a barrier like other army based games
@@mikewright6707 while I agree, MCP is also pulling people from non-minis games so there are players with little to zero experience with painting. I think we will eventually get there
@@omnusprotocol it doesn’t have to be an either or. If you don’t support the hobby side of these games, well, you get warmahordes. The invitational requires folks to spend how much money and be how dedicated to this game? They can paint some models and you can support it.
I love those mats with markings for where extracts and secures must be placed! Is it possible to buy one somewhere?
Holy crap that is cool! Where do we get one of these?
@@buddylangner they are made by iWargame and i will get links from him. I know he is working on a new website
@@omnusprotocol I would totally buy one or 2
@@omnusprotocol do you have links for those iWargame mats?
Not yet. He said late march or early april to get his restock and then he launches his site.
research station and riots 3.0?
Yes
Dice instead of tokens, that's a tournament foul. Where's the TO? lol
I ran the event :)
@Omnus Protocol lol. Well bravo for turning a successful one. Why the tiny Tables? 😫
@@mitchcowan1446 LVO literally took up every single table the RIO had. We specifically decided to keep mcp on 3ft tables to allow more space due to covid and go easy on people's backs bending over. Its all a balancing act depending on the amount of space we get from the con. Each table is made up of two tables that are 1.5 feet. If we make 4.5 feet by adding another table, there would be more room for cards but everyone who be closer together and less isle space for people to be walking around and getting to tables. So table space was slightly inconvenient but overall navigation and spacing was comfortable.
@@omnusprotocol Gotya. Well again kudos for running an event in trying times.
@@mitchcowan1446 thanks, overall the event went great and I think we kept people as safe as possible considering the environment
What is with these tiny tables???? Jeez, give these guys a little room for their cards at least! Def not a fan of the dice over the official tokens, specifically in a tournament. Casual, no issues. Sigh...
LVO literally took up every single table the RIO had. We specifically decided to keep mcp on 3ft tables to allow more space due to covid and go easy on people's backs bending over. Its all a balancing act depending on the amount of space we get from the con.
Also we had zero issues come up from Nate's dice in the resin cradles. They were never bumped. And zero players expressed issues over it. However tokens were knocked off cards around a dozen times. If an issue came up about how much power or damage a character had I would have made a ruling and it would penalize the character using dice. It just never came up. Tokens, Spin Dials, Dice etc we saw lots of ways to travk used at the con and really only minor issues ever came up.
Did you just find every video and make the same inane comment on all of them? Dice in a cradle is fine. If your opponent has an issue with it they can speak up.
Might need to snag that die cradle idea ... so, so many tokens
Using dice instead of tokens is bullshit in a tournament. And what's with the tiny table? Not even room for cards. Looks like the kids table at friday night family dinner. Lol.
@@mitchcowan1446 Is it? I'd thought it would be easier to read, and the cradle would keep it from flipping accidentally, and be clearer to the opponent as well. As for the size, I have no idea what resources they're working with /shrug
@@timothyblack7793 I agree, I think it should be damage/power chit tokens in tournaments - easy to see, hard to mess up. Admittedly, the cradles help alleviate the possibility of accidentally rolling from nudges or table bumps, which can be a huge issue in this game. In a way the dial counters are even worse than dice since your opponent cannot visually track anything.
feel da rhythm, feel da rhyme!
Thanks for posting this video, and for all your work at LVO
