Aurora August 12 2024 Real Time East

I thought I'd post an aurora video in real time, not time lapse. This was from the G3 geomagnetic storm of August 12. This camera faces East, so the aurora was coming in from the South-East and heading North, which happens on really large storms. Location Lake of the Woods, Ontario, Canada. I have been using this generator for quite a long while. I am on number 3 generator that was bought new run 24 hrs a day one went bad motor locked up during the winter had shut it off and went to start was locked up. the next one worked great for about 5 months. it will still run power equiptment but running light load lights it does not work. I check oil every day change it once a week. filter cleaned at same time. I would like to figure out how to repair the second one so it generates lighting power that is my main intrest that and charging up my phone and laptop. I live in the woods not connected to the grid power at all. in 24 hours it burns about 2 1/2 gallons of gas. all in all I am happy with it

    • @ChrisVA3ECO
      @ChrisVA3ECO 3 месяца назад

      Hi Terry, I think for light loads an inverter type of generator might be better. My cousin has one and the motor can slow right down when powering LED bulbs and charging phones in his cabin. There are some no name inverter generators that are in the $500 USD dollar range. There is even an inverter Champion dual fuel, 2000 watts for $479 USD. Quite a bit more money than one like mine, but on light loads they are better on gas and way quieter due to the motor being able to slow down while still putting out 120 Volts and 60 Hertz. I found cleaning the low speed jet in my carb helped the performance.

    • @terryleewayman9942
      @terryleewayman9942 3 месяца назад

      @@ChrisVA3ECO cleaning out the carb did help on the one but in middle of winter I had to have power now and just bought a new one. it was just too cold to even try to repair at the time. I even put a larger load on it but even though it would power the load it still would not give me lights I was thinking it may be an electric issue but the new one works fine on my system. I hope to get real electric hooked up soon before winter

    Great comparison. I'm considering a C325WB for 24/7 live streaming as an Aurora/Astro cam. Does it transition between day and night automatically ? Can you keep the spotlights turned off ? Thanks.

    • @ChrisVA3ECO
      @ChrisVA3ECO 9 месяцев назад

      The C325WB does full colour day or night, so there isn't a day/night transition (I think). And yes you can leave the spotlights off, but if you have very dark skies, as I have, I would suggest to select "Auto Spotlights" to on, then tape up the spotlights and indicator lamps to the right, left and below the lens with black electrical tape. Otherwise the camera tries too hard and gives a "noisy" video.

      I depends, if your C320 is hardware version 1 then you are in luck, it is comparable to the C325, and lights should be off. For the C320 hardware version 2 I found lights on, but taped up with electrical tape gave a less "noisy" video signal, but not as bright as you can see.

I live in NW Oregon then conduct guided Salmon & Steelhead fishing in small rivers with lots of boulders that are a pain to navigate around, and some are just dangerous to get a drift boat past. Hi Lure, 1 1/8 holes should work fine, mine were 1 1/4 inch. On my second job (April 2021 RUclips) I used an electric hammer drill and it took about six hours of drillling. The BIG thing is to keep the end of the bit wet. I used a small 120 volt utility pump, you only need a trickle of water. We did the first two holes dry and dulled the bit, then we did 25 holes wet and the bit was still sharp. Good luck! -Chris
