Elizabeth Spins Along
Добавлен 5 апр 2019
I prep fiber, spin and knit. And I will take you along for the process.
Spin to Knit: Grey Shetland Mitts
Thank you for watching! I am spinning some grey shetland wool that I bought as combed top. I find it more pleasant to spin shetland in a more woolen form so before spinning I drum carded the fiber. I used the grey shetland and some contrasting colored shetland, that I had previously spun for a sweater project, to make a pair of fingerless mitts. I used the Mirknen Dags pattern by Elizabeth Johnston from the Shetland Wool Week Annual Volume Six. The pattern is like a choose your own adventure - she gives different options for charts and cuffs. My mitts have a 1x1 rib cuff and top. The charts I used from the pattern are: B6, A1, D2, B3, A5, B5, and C4. I used 5 double pointed needles in siz...

Welcome! I needed a fall decoration. Come along with me as I spin romney wool into yarn and then knit pumpkins. All the details: The fiber is romney wool roving. I split the fiber into three parts. I spun 20 g of fiber for a small pumpkin into 32 yards of yarn. I used 13 grams of this yarn to knit the smaller pumpkin with a 2.75 mm needle (US 2). The fiber for the larger pumpkin started out at ...
Spinning from the Fold

Thank you for watching! This is how I spin from the fold. It is my favorite method of spinning camel/silk blends. I do not hold the fiber over my finger. I use a long draw method once I am holding the folded fiber in my right hand.
Pink Hat

Hello! I am Elizabeth and I prep fiber, spin and knit. This first video is an experiment. I know I need to work on the focus and lighting! Autofocus is not my friend! I used polworth wool to spin and knit a hat for my daughter. I used the Porty Hat pattern by Ysolda. I spun a two ply yarn about a DK weight. I used size 5 double pointed needles to knit the hat and used a sewn tubular bind off.
Great spin. Love the colors!
Thank you!
Just stunning ❤
That is beautiful
Lovely. What a special garment! I love natural fibers ❤
The sheen on that yarn! Camelid fibre blended with silk isn’t just gorgeous to spin with, it creates an absolutely beautiful end result, doesn’t it? And I’m certain the finished cowl is wonderful to wear. 🤩
Thank you! It is wonderfully soft and warm. I want to make another.
@ - Oh dear… how often did I feel exactly the same about something I made that contains home spun camelid blends? I’ve lost count! LOL
So beautiful <3 I would love to hear some of the spinning wheel sounds in a video if you ever wanted to leave them in
Thank you! That might be something I will work on for future videos
I would also love the ambient sound of the spinning wheel and click klack of knitting needles
Fascinating process. Love that color!
Thank you!
