Lincoln's Lyceum Address - Ken Burns: The Civil War (1990)
Просмотров 5 тыс.3 года назад
"Whence shall we expect the approach of danger? Shall some trans-Atlantic giant step the Earth and crush us at a blow? Never. All the armies of Europe and Asia could not by force take a drink from the Ohio River or make a track on the Blue Ridge in the trial of a thousand years. If destruction be our lot we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of free men we will live forever ...
Can't imagine President Lincoln resting in peace with the MAGA insurgency attacking our nation's Capitol like the Confederacy. They were even waving the stars and bars and other white nationalist flags. There is no place for hate in our Democracy. Thank You Ken Burns for the somber reminder to uphold our Constitution and hold those accountable who refuse to.
This guy's simply amazing.
High on Tulsa Heat is in my top 5 albums. I consider John to be up there with John Prine when it comes to song writing. Maybe it is because his songs resonate so well with my upbringing here in Oklahoma, but John fills up the spaces in my heart. I implore everyone to see him live. With the right respectful crowd, you can have an experience of a lifetime.
...someone better play this at my funeral...or I'll get up and leave
Wow. You are a Poet too.
The things this man can do with a guitar are absolutely incredible
Heartfelt thanks to Yellowstone for introducing me to this treasure.
i love his music.
Great soulful singing and guitar strumming ! Thank you for sharing your Music !👍
God when you feel alone in the world then you hear this!! Thank you John we're not as alone as it feels in such moments.
What year was this on Colbert
2016
Just a another beautiful song by John
One man and one guitar with no place for talent to hide, Bravo.
Holy crap John. Congrats! That's some hellfiied exposure!
One of the most incredible songwriters I've ever seen.
Finally getting what's deserved, awesome 👌
unreal <3
Thank you John you give us lonely people a voice
I will be next June 5 at the Ark to finally see him live. Anyone will attend?
He was incredible
at least half the world loves this man
Since I first heard him few years back, his music, songs touched me in such beautiful ways. And so subtle.
Soul hugging music ❤
I'm so damn happy to be able to hear his music. Amazing, amazing and amazing. Pure talent and heart felt
From the very first time I’ve heard him I figured out I was in front of something real. Please John keep singing!!
Beauty and Genius, packaged with Love And Pain. Delivered to you in a song.
I’m not crying, you’re crying! 😭
We're both crying.
This used to be posted on the Late Night's channel but, for some reason deleted. This is my favorite version, I know he's a showman and empties the tank at every show, but this hand-hammered performance is a soul crusher.
Listen to that Martin acoustic guitar! That thing sounds INCREDIBLE.
If I ever meet this man in person I'm bear hugging him. I've been listening to him for years now, and he just doesn't disapoint. High on Tulsa Heat has been one of my favorite albums for years. Finally bought it on vinyl a while back. Was on my Christmas list every year but nobody would buy it so gifted it to myself. 😊
This is not the Lyceum Address, this is an extremely watered down (dumbed down) version of it
True, it's not a verbatim quote from the text of the speech, which l have read. (whew, that was a long speech!) But it still rings frightening true, especially in our time. Personally, l feel we have passed the point of no return, and I'm glad I'll be gone within 5 years.
Dear God.... Those lyrics are so brilliant and profound and ice cold that it's almost unbelievable. Goosebumps for days..
Look up "You Don't Care for Me Enough to Cry."
Already knew he was awesome ! Glad you all finally caught up !
Thanks for posting this, I love this piece and couldn’t find it for a while, I thought it got deleted. Masterpiece in my opinion and definitely hits the soul 🙏
It did get deleted for a long time. I found it on vemo for a while. Amazing live performance.
I don't have a patriotic bone in my body, but "As a nation of free men, we will live forever or die by suicide" goes so fucking hard
National treasure in training
i wish i was 25 yrs younger JM i would still love u to this day and always will... Hope to see u in Felton, CA. soon
@savylace1197 you look amazing, same thing happened to me.best wishes from Ireland.
This makes my eyes water to hear
Im so glad he’s finally being recognized.
how many of you, had this happen??? 3 times for me... but i guess thats how we learn in this life, right?
Until they wrecked me completely
Yeah, life lessons suck but they have an impact 😢❤😊😊
Outstanding 👏
When was he at Stephen Colberts ?
Must have been a while ago. High on Tulsa Heat came out in 2015, and he's had two or three albums since.
Dodging those demons again
❤
Dude, thank you for uploading this! I'm a big John Moreland fan and remember watching this when the Late Show channel originally posted it years ago, ~February 2016. No idea why they removed it. Happy to have this back. This song is an absolute soul crusher, but a beautiful one.
Maybe the hardest shit ever written
he was 28 years old when he said that
@Tom G I'm such a bum...
@@YungLilBoiiwe are all trash! But by His divine will we might be recycled and used for ammunition against that ancient enemy!
there will be no more counting cars on Golden State Parkway
If I go in on a donkey let me go out on a gurneyyy
All of the so-called patriots should see this clip
I've seen it.... and it ain't the patriots destroying this country.
Our brothers scream for freedom and all you wish is to ignite old bullshit?
