      Oh, wow! Thank you! I have to admit, I was never quite sure if my voice was okay for videos like this, so to know the video is nice ASMR reassures me. (Someone once told me that her blood pressure went down after watching one of my videos, and that was always the plan!) I have an uncle and aunt who once lived in the Adelaide Hills - lovely part of the world.

    I really love the way you have put together this film and shown us the suburban streets, houses, and inspiration that affect Bronte. Reading an extract from the story was great, The tradies ute, breaking glass and deaf neighbour all resonate to build a picture. Thanks.

    Gissing is my favourite novelist, I collect books by him and about him. I felt that Marian and Biffen would have been a good match, it was a shame they never met.

      Omg, you're so right! I never thought of that. I ADORE 'The Odd Women' and 'The Year of Jubilee', which I keep rereading - not as much as 'New Grub Street', though.

      @@StorybookCottageWriter I haven't read 'The Year of Jubilee' yet, currently reading 'The Town Traveller' for the first time. I loved 'The Odd Women' too. His characters can be frustrating and he rarely does a happy ending, I think that might be a reason why his novels aren't adapted for TV. Biffen rescuing his manuscript from his burning lodgings was my favourite bit of NGS. I need to reread it soon!

      The Folio Society publishes limited-edition, high-quality, collectible-type books, often classics - books with 'cachet', I guess. (My ones were a gift!)

    That was such an interesting episode. That one illness had so many treatment places, how wonderful to bring humour to such a sad experience! Very relatable now we have pandemic prone societies. The old hospital in Sutherland used to have sunrooms on every level at the end of each corridor, sun was prescribed every day to help you heal 🌞☀️

      The old tithe barn is almost as tiny as its contents, so it gets crowded pretty quickly! And it's only open two days a week for a few ours after lunch, meaning you have to plan carefully ...

      Yeah, I heard one rumour but no repeat claims, the way there are for the Queen Victoria Hospital (which seriously freaked out a ghost hunter acquaintance of mine, years ago!)

    Hill End is very Active the Hospital , Craigmoor House ive captured them on IR cameras and Audio Recorders if you stay at the Royal Hotel rooms 1 to 6 overlooking the street you will hear them in fact i left an IR camera over 1 yr ago staying in room 1 all night and the Orbs were all around the spirits were fascinated by the camera and early morning a woman says HELLO we were the only guests that night ive left cameras and audio all night at the Hospital and you can hear them especially the Children 2 are girls Sarah and Hanah who come through still in limbo from the gold rush.

      I've been to Hill End and stayed at the Royal Hotel, many, many years ago. Didn't hear anything except the drinkers downstairs, but everything in that town is spooky _ even the Golden Gully.

Believe me, I would have purchased a goody bag if we'd had more luggage space, but over teh years I've kept bringing one or two books from Schooner's every visit, and now I have a small but precious set of 19th and 18th century books ...

    Ohhh I would’ve bought too many books! Our op shops used to have old books. Not anymore, what a joy. It’s so cool turning pages and finding another persons notes and thoughts pencilled in the margins 😃

      Yes, the slow disappearance of books from op shops is a very ominous sign - in another episode I mentioned the GREAT op shop near us where the books are SO cheap ($2, mostly) abd it's still very popular. Because there's still a market out there!
