    Would a check engine light affect the traction control?

    • @shaneperche-fixed-it
      @shaneperche-fixed-it 3 часа назад

      Yes, there are some check engine light error codes that could affect traction control. For example: C0240 usually indicates a problem with the ABS system, which can affect the traction control. C0265 often points to a malfunction in the ABS/TCS (Traction Control System) pump motor or relay. C0710 usually indicates a problem with the ABS/TCS control module or its circuit; and C0899 usually indicates a fault in the communication between the ABS module and other control modules, which can affect traction control functionality. Did you get any of these codes when you scanned the OBD-II?

    Good video and explanation! After refilling with refrigerant how long will it last? Won't it leak again since it leaked at 1st. I thought it was a close and sealed circuit. It it leaked once, I would imagine it would require frequent refilling. Don't you agree?

    • @shaneperche-fixed-it
      @shaneperche-fixed-it 6 дней назад

      Agreed. I would imagine that it would require recharging again at some point. I don't know how long it will last but I can confirm that it is running in my basement today and is still working great a year after making the fix. It was sitting for 15 years when I tried using it a year ago so my guess is that it will probably need a recharge again sometime in the next 14 years. I'm quite curious how long it will last myself so as an experiment, I will definitely post when it stops working.

    You tested the capacitor and said it was good, what did I miss that made you buy a new one?

    • @shaneperche-fixed-it
      @shaneperche-fixed-it 20 дней назад

      @craigg1668 Unfortunately, a start capacitor can pass a micrometer capacitance test but still fail at full voltage. The capacitor did fail the ESR resistance test, but I missed getting that clip in the video. You can see how to perform the resistance test here: ruclips.net/video/kdFIARakavk/видео.html at about 1:40. The reason I suspected the capacitor was bad is because my compressor motor wasn't starting at all, and as soon as I replaced it, the compressor motor started vibrating/humming immediately. So if your compressor motor isn't starting, I would suspect a bad cap even if it passes the capacitance test. If the cap is bulging at the top or the terminals are corroded, even more likely that is your issue. Hope that helps, and good luck!

I added a tad of dye with the charge and found a leak in the evaporator. Wasn’t feeling ambitious enough to try replacing that so I gave it to a buddy that does refrigeration for a living. Sometimes these ambitions are worth your time. Sometimes not.

    My fuel gauge works just fine until it reaches about the half full mark so would I be right in assuming that the fuel pump level gauge on he drivers side is the one that isn't working and that the other one on the passenger side is working fine?

    • @shaneperche-fixed-it
      @shaneperche-fixed-it 2 месяца назад

      Unfortunately no. The fuel senders have little resistors that get worn out as there is a little needle that moves over them as the tank is filled and emptied. The ones on the bottom get worn out faster so the typical behavior is that it stops working at a quarter of a tank and then it progresses from there. From what I understand they both work together so it's impossible to tell which one is the problem until you take them out. However, it's likely that they are both bad or will be since they wear at a similar rate. Since the work to access them requires removing the back seats, I would highly recommend replacing both at the same time. The only tricky part is getting that lock ring back on after they are replaced. I've done this repair a couple times and the second time, I purchased a lock ring tool and it made my life so much easier.

    • @rodc2938
      @rodc2938 2 месяца назад

      @@shaneperche-fixed-it Thanks for the reply. Just to clarify, why does the car have 2 fuel level sensors? It is a saddlebag style fuel tank, so my thinking is that since it has one fuel level sensor in each saddlebag of the tank might mean that one side (passenger side) empties then the other (fuel pump side) takes over and measures the fuel in the drivers side. Thus my gauge works just fine until it reaches the half way point, then goes haywire when the drivers side sensor takes over. Just my theory, could be wrong.

    • @shaneperche-fixed-it
      @shaneperche-fixed-it 2 месяца назад

      I use an ESR meter which measures the equivalent series resistance in capacitors. If you don't have an ESR meter and the compressor won't turn on, there is a very good chance your capacitor is bad.

    Its looking like the manufacturers have caught on that they can be recharged and have discontinued R134a dehumidifiers in favor of the basically unfixable R410a and R32s, since with those the refrigerant costs about as much as a new dehumidifier. Even though I have seen HVAC people say R134a is the best refrigerant to use in one. The new models are all sold with 1 year warranties too and basically built to fail shortly after that. Quite a racket :/ I looked all day yesterday for an R134a dehumidifier and every model I found was out of stock or no longer sold. Bummer

      Don't get me started on their build quality these days :S I have 2 Midea dehumidifiers that are basically trash as they stopped dehumidifying. I've had one last decades in the past....the modern class are built to fail as you said. So disgusting. Quite the racket indeed.

      @@coacks I have two GEs that died within 2 years each myself, basically trash. Fans run but don't collect water now. Both need a refrigerant recharge I am about 95% sure but they have unfillable refrigerant by design, right. I gave up looking for an R134a and finally got an R410a 50 pt from Menards with a 3 year warranty, which is almost unheard of today. I see it basically as a 3 year dehumidifier. But that beats a 1 year!

      @@c.rutherford Menards is American I presume. I haven't seen a 3 year warranty here or I'd buy one as well. I got a Danby from Costco that was significantly cheaper than the Midea. So if it dies I'll care less I suppose.

    Is it low on refrigerant, if the compressor runs and gets hot, but the copper pipe does not? Mine is doing this and its just a little over a year old! Runs but collects no water now. It says R410A on the compressor. I'm surprised no hardware stores sell a bullet piercing valve for a simple solution to such a common problem. It seems the only option is to order online and wait a week :/

    • @c.rutherford
      @c.rutherford 3 месяца назад

      I'm looking at R410A and the canisters cost about as much as just buying a replacement dehumidifier. It also says it will no longer be available and sold at all after 2025 :/ Well isn't that nice. Apparently you can't tap off R410A with anything else? Just my luck I got an appliance that is unchargeable, and only ran a year. And this is my second one in a row that did this. GE dehumidifiers are junk, apparently.

    After having this for a few months now, I am seeing some annoyances. With phone calls, if you touch the carplay display to make a call, the phone defaults to using "CarPlay" for the mic. This microphone is confusing because it does work, but everyone says the sound is muffled. You have to change the mic to the infiniti and it's fine. But this is every time. Answering calls has similar annoyances. Unavi wants you to use Siri for making calls and the steering wheel for answering (which causes the display to flip away from Carplay). I bought an external mic and I am going to try to wire it into the Unavi (You show where it plugs in around 19:15. The white wire is positive according to my volt meter while talking. My hope is to disable infiniti bluetooth and only use Carplay for everything.
