This channel is all about trumpet and cornet music. I post recordings of myself performing various pieces, from well known favorites and educational pieces to to more obscure or forgotten pieces of the trumpet and cornet literature.
I am a current member of the Dodworth Saxhorn Band and the Chicago Road Brass Quintet in addition to freelance performances with various orchestras and solo recitals while also teaching private trumpet lessons.
For more information about the groups I perform with, visit Dodworth.org or ChicagoRoadBrass.com. If you are in the southeastern part of Michigan, feel free to reach out about private lessons as well!
Thank you for watching! Don't forget to like and subscribe for all of my trumpet and cornet content.

Neruda: Trumpet Concerto in Eb - Mvt. 1
Просмотров 200Год назад
Here is the first movement of the Neruda Trumpet Concerto. I am playing on a Schilke Eb trumpet built around 2006. J.G.B Neruda (c. 1708-1780) composed this piece originally for the corno-da-caccia, a valveless member of the horn family. Although this instrument is more closely related to the french horn than the trumpet, it differs from a traditional "horn" in that it has a cup shaped mouthpie...
Wtf your playing is quite anti-musical, why do you reinforce and length the second eighth note of a group of two on the first beat all the time, or the end of the phrases like at 42sec...
Thanks for your comment. In my opinion, lengthening the last note, as you've pointed out, makes the phrase sound less choppy or disjointed than if I were to play it short. You have a valid opinion, but it's not how I prefer to play baroque music. Both ways are still musical, but ultimately, it's a matter of personal preference. Thanks again! Happy 2025!
Excellent performance!
Thank you! It was a lot of fun making this one 😊
I have to play this for my solo, Wish me luck!
That's awesome! Best of luck on your performance! This is a really fun piece to play. Let me (us) know how it goes!
I will, I don't know if you know this but there's 3 divisions 1 being the best and 3 being the worst. I'll let you know what I get!
Although it's at the end of April so a tiny wait but I'm learning the peice 😊
I'm sure you'll do great! Just relax and breath. It's a tough thing to play a solo at (I assume) solo & ensemble, but well worth all the hard work and practice. Here's hoping for a 1! Definitely let us know what you get!
I will most definitely 😊
What’s the tempo from the start of playing this piece and the end
Wouldn’t it be like 70 if it’s andante
Hi there! The opening Andante I took at 80-bpm with the section marked "animato" at 100. The polka section is at about 112-bpm and the Coda at the end was up a click at 116. I hope this helps!
@@DavidJenvey thank you so much
@yuh_itsink1567 technically speaking in modern tempos an Andante is from 76 to 104. I personally prescribe to the more baroque idea that tempo markings are more of a characteristic than an actual strict bpm number (within reason, of course 😊)
as a woodwind player, 4 valves brass instruments exist?
They absolutely do 😊 and are a joy to play. The 4th valve on the piccolo trumpet lowers the pitch by a 4th, letting it get a few extra notes on the low end.
Also, this time around the composer was the lucky one in having this premiered by David Jenvey. What a nice treat, David! Thank you for playing and posting this! Bravo!
Thank you! It was a pleasure to record 😊
❤❤❤
Thank you!!! Glad you like it too! 😊
Nice job David. What mouthpiece are you using?
Thanks, Bill! This one is on a Stork Custom - 7P. I love using this one on my Eb and pic!
