Gateway Playhouse, September 2001. A number of people have reached out to me to put this online, and I'm finally getting around to it. Hope you enjoy. Impressive cast, including Bradley Dean and John Lloyd Young. I was Chauvelin, which ended up being one of my favorite roles ever.

Saw it on Broadway with Douglass Sills and Terrence Mann & Christine Andreas Was legit amazing!!!! Still crank the soundtrack now and again.
Only one Percy and that is Mr Sills. Good attempt though.
I had the pleasure of doing this show. I was originally cast as a soldier. Then one of the nasty French men. And understudy Ben, one of Percy's friends. The second day of vocal rehearsals I was told the part of ben was mine. I loved this show

I've seen this musical something like 20 times, including the original production on Broadway with the great Douglas Sills while I was writing my undergrad thesis on the Pimpernel. Although the video production here isn't ideal, the actual stage production is on par with any of those and better than several.

Well, this was a VHS recording from 2001 that I digitized, so this is as good as this one will get - not sure if there are more recent or higher-definition ones around, but hope so!

Outstanding. Was this a touring company or an opera company? It's worthy of Broadway but I'm guessing you could not have this quality of recording from a B'way production.

I realize what happened with the video transfer, but yes - the nearly 4 hour runtime gave me pause. I once was witness to a true four-hour high school production of Pippin, and sometimes in my darkest moments, I feel like I'm still there.

Chauvelin's voice is simply fire. Bravo. I mean, everyone is good, but I don't usually turn my head for the antagonist.
I've realized recently that Chauvlan's character might actually be the most important casting choice for this or any other version of the Scarlet Pimpernel. It seems to me that Percy is different in each version. But more often than not it's whatever is needed for the parts of Chauvlan's character that is being shown more prominently. It's almost as if the antagonist is inspiring the different versions of Percy to emerge. I'm explaining my thought very poorly. But I'm hoping it's still understandable. I think Paul is a fantastic antagonist. So much to him.

Everyone else is great, but this woman should never have been cast to play Marguerite. It’s a soprano role not intended for a Broadway belt.
Clearly you don’t know Carolee Carmello or Rachel York’s voices. Frank Wildhorn pretty much exclusively writes his female roles to be belters, at least across all of his most notable works. Emma in Jekyll & Hyde being one of the only exceptions.
I just watched a few numbers from this wonderful production and I intend to go back and watch the entire show. I saw this musical three times on Broadway and was in the group of people that loved it. I would have loved being in the audience for this production. The actors are amazing! What incredible voices they have.

Amazing performance from everyone! The Scarlet Pimpernel is my favorite fantasy hero of all time. I love the character and stories in all the versions. The music in this is amazing, too. Can't stop watching it on repeat!

I saw the notification and watched immediately with such pleasure at finally being able to enjoy the full story set through the rare and difficult to find musical - you are such a marvelous, intense, refined yet sensual, and courteous Chauvelin and the quality of this is phenomenal Sincerely so kind and thoughtful of you for going out of your way to find and upload and consider my request to share. Prior to your kindness, I had yet to find a full English performance of the musical anywhere so this is so appreciated and a gift to the musical community!

@@RRBBVamp I know the feeling, upon encountering the musical for the first time and falling for it, I looked for months all across RUclips and other sites without success (legitimately, one of the most difficult shows to find any content for, much less quality and full uploads of songs let alone I could not find a complete English performance anywhere). Through my searching I happened to discover this account, through a clip of I believe "Where's the Girl," and asked if he possibly had further content he could share. Erik so kindly obliged and shared the entire performance - thanks so much again Erik, what a gift to all admirers of this musical and novel, as well as your own gorgeous voice and performance!
I'm currently working on trying out for an unknown musical at my highschool and am singing Falcon in the dive, and I wanted to watch people actually performing the song. I found it a little while ago but only now sat down to watch it. I actually had to stop about an hour in though but I fully intend to come back and finish it.
@@RRBBVamp Good luck, amazing to hear that there is a current version of this musical playing, hope you all have an enjoyable time! The only other almost full performance I found that is really tremendous (given the quality, time period when filmed, and lack of options; however it cuts off right at the climax and includes loads of blank/irrelevant clips, but the Chauvlin is one of the best I've seen and the highschool performer was quite impressive and mature and he's a great reference that carried the show - wish I knew who he was and hoped he went onto Broadway!) is called "The Scarlet Pimpernel - 2003 Granger HS West Valley" uploaded by Natalie Arnold (ruclips.net/video/UAqxab2kvdc/видео.htmlsi=udojx9_tH2VC6kdI) and also an amazingly dark, passionate performance is "Falcon in the Dive - William Paul Michals" (ruclips.net/video/dw809ERDkmk/видео.htmlsi=U-G6uCF6SzU9eTRj) beyond of course the clips of Terrance Mann.
