Turning a long floor lamp on 2 lathes
Просмотров 3159 лет назад
I was asked to make a floor lamp that needed to be in 1 piece. I never say no and here is what I ended up doing. I bolted 2 Axminster lathes together, clamped them to metal posts in the building and c
Thank you, it took a while to find out which side the neutral and live were. Appreciate it - the lamp in our sitting room lives on
Thank you Bro.
Why do I have a red, green and blue wire 💀
Best explanation.. quality information.. so useful.. thank you so much 🙏🏻
How do you removevthe wire from those push in terminals?
Wow thanks for that. Didn't realise that the terminals were simply push-fit. That saved me pulling the holder apart and soldering them.
You're not alone, I'm about to solder mine too. Luckily I found this video in time.
Thanks You front chile
what wire gauge fits on this lampholder?
Thank you very much!
Exactly what i was looking for ,,super thanks buddy
Very helpful thanks a million!
Where can I buy that white part that clamps to the flex? Corrwct me if im wrong, but I'm not real knowledgeable with the lamp terms.
Hi! You should be able to find them on Amazon. I think you mean the lampholder. So search for 'plastic e27 lampholder'. Otherwise look at lampspares.co.uk and they have all sorts
@@nickhammond8545 thank you!
e como destrava o fio do conector?
você precisa empurrar um alfinete grosso ou agulha no orifício retangular para empurrar o contato de metal para o lado. em seguida, ele libera a ponta do fio.
I hope Google translate works!
God bless you man you saved my day. Love from middle east ❤😂
I need this. Thank you
What gauge is that cord? And is there not a ground slot?
I'm UK based so its 0.75mm cord. 2 core so just live and neutral. No earth as the lampholder is plastic. I think for US you would want 18awg but don't hold me to that!
My shade were fitting goes on to connect is only 2cm no fitting will go through the spider on the shade
Hi, are you in the UK? If it is 2cm that could be tricky finding a lampholder as the UK bayonet ones are about 28mm I think the US have an E12 lampholder but the ring would also need to be 28mm... www.lampspares.co.uk/e12-black-threaded-lampholder-with-shade-rings-4861077/?gclid=CjwKCAjwloynBhBbEiwAGY25dODd7eFI9sVpuq5SkxEsSLpGkbrGgjjxWyIxe9WoHHCOyKaqdGCnzRoCEkMQAvD_BwE
Where did you purchase the holder?
Check this site out... www.lampspares.co.uk/white-Threaded-e27-lampholder-with-push-wire-terminals-019494/
big help thanks ❤
Finally a video showing all I needed to know 👏
You forgot the screws that attach the wires in place. I think the click sounds isn't enough to fix the wires in place. Anyways, thanks for this informative video!
I do prefer the screw terminals too but these are push fit ones so the wires need to have solid soldered ends but they seem to work a treat.
Thank you for sharing this!
push how? you say 'push in' but it looks like you push sideways and up?
Which part are you struggling with? Can you say which part you need help with or which minute of the video you are at
@@nickhammond8545ah sorry! I meant pushing in the rectangular hole to remove the wire. Around 1:40 mark.
@@sinemkayacan842 Oh, yeah it's just a bit tricky you almost have to push your pin in and push the metal to the side so it takes a bit of wiggling.
@@nickhammond8545 Thank you!
Pushed too hard with a screwdriver and I broke the fucking thing...
In technique, every detail counts: if you don't have a match when you need it, you will suffer from the cold. And how simple is a match...? The film explained to me how to mount the new nozzles with clips... . It proves once again that even the simplest installations can be "difficult" if you don't know the details. They actually make the difference. Thanks.
Perfect demonstration short sweet and precise !!
Trying to rewire my mum's lamp. It has this same bulb socket. How to I get the wires out to replace them?
Thanks
Thank you!!
Thanks for the demonstration. Could you do a video where you convert a E14 bulb shell to a E27?
Hi, I don't use E14 but as long as it's a similar lampholder design (plastic and 2 wires with no earth wire) it should be very similar.
You are amazing
Whats about the theard green cable?
Hi, the green cable is earth, for these particular lampholders it isn't needed. However if you have a lampholder that has that third connection and is made of metal it's super important!
Perfect, thanks very much for this detail.
Thank you sir.
Great tip, thanks 😊 👍
Thanks Nick..easy when you know how.
How do you get the wires back out for maintenance? Everybody wants to show you how to install it but nobody shows how to take it apart and remove the wires.
Hi, sorry for the late reply but check this video out for removal... ruclips.net/video/ZyO9E3Ynq8E/видео.html
@@nickhammond8545 Thanks Nick, I didn't have a clue how this works.
how do you disconnect the cables if you need to after they click in place? you just need to pull them? i need to disconnect from the lampholder but i don't want to make damage. THanks
Hi, You need something like a big safety pin to push the metal tabs in the rectangular hole and with that you should be able to pull the cable free
Very helpful! Only place I could find an answer how to remove those wires from the lamp fitting
The only place i got an answer! Took a while for the wires to take off, but I was able to do it! Thank you so much!
I have a glass shade with a 3cm hole for fitting. Could I use this technique, removing the brass base, so I can fit the shade? I'm unable to get to the part of the lamp slim enough to fit the shade
But how would you add another socket like connected to this one?
I want to connect 2 holders to 1 switch
Thanks for the video. I use the same bulb holder, and I followed your instructions exactly, but the bulb didn't light up. I've checked the wiring, changed the bulb, I even changed the fuse in the plug, still didn't work. What do you think the problem is?
This was so helpful, thank you.
I have a problem losing the cables from this socket, how doo u doo that?
Each side does have 2 sockets so it might be worth trying the other one. Just make sure it is the same side and not the opposite side
How do you get the wires back out though?
Hi, If you mean get the wires up the lamp. It can be tricky. I would either use a bit of tape at the end to make it more streamlined and stronger. I sometimes use a bit of the outer flex to put on the end of the 2 bare ends. Hope that is what you were meaning?
@@nickhammond8545 No, I mean, once you put the wires into the socket, if you want to take them back out again. My workmate has this fitting and wants to shorten the cable, I can't get the wires out, they are clamped in and there is no release. Cutting and soldering is possible, but not as near.
Oh I see. I completely misread the question. Checkout this video. Think it's about halfway through.... ruclips.net/video/ZyO9E3Ynq8E/видео.html
@@nickhammond8545 perfect thanks, I tried that but was frightened to break it, but tried again and they popped out. Now I did the rookie mistake of not checking where live and neutral were! But I will work it out, maybe that is on your first video.
Oh, I’ve just managed to do it, haha. Thanks anyways, I’ll still follow your instructions cos I was also looking to find out which wire goes inti which hole and you answered that perfectly clear. Cheers..
Thanks so much for your online instructions regarding replacing lamp socket..you made my day easy .. I could not have made it w/out your detailed instructions..we need guys for our diy .. God Bless 👏👏😊
what the heck is the above comment lol
Hi there, I’ve got exactly the same lamp holder only in much smaller size. How do you take the two pieces apart? Mine just doesn’t want to split!
Thank you sooo much for the video!! I'm living in Denmark and bought a lampholder online, when it arrived it looked like none of the ones I was used to from my home country and I didn't know how to google for them!! Somehow I ended up in this video after half an hour of reading in blogs, and it was very easy to do afterwards. Appreciated it a lot 🔥🔥🔥
Oh that's great. I actually just uploaded it for a customer to view as the file was too big to email!
@@nickhammond8545 it's the first time I'll be thanking email file size limits lol!!
Thanks for this video! I am trying to wire a lampholder that is exactly the same, but it says that you need to solder the tips of the wire first (if it is that "multiple thin wires together" type ). Did you actually do it or is it unnecessary if you twist it hard enough?
@@Cuiositycola you might be able to twist the ends enough to push them into the holder but I doubt it. You might need to order some of these...www.amazon.co.uk/White-0-75mm-Bootlace-Ferrule-Pack/dp/B07BR4VYMH/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=ferrule+0.75&qid=1617978216&sr=8-3 You would then put these on the copper ends and have to crimp them on with a pair of pliers and these will then push in
@@nickhammond8545 thanks a lot for the tip, that's very helpful! I'll get some of those. All the best!
