Suzuki Boulevard C90 Starting Issue - Possible Fix - Starter Relay
Nice modification!
Thanks for the video I am considering adding the Kawasaki voyager to my stable. I currently have a Yamaha Roadliner I turned into a Full dresser, by using the quick release passenger backrest mounts for the Roadliner and attaching to a trunk. Your video gives me the option to do the same with the voyager, since it is still in construction and Yamaha stopped marking the Roadliner several years back, which means parts are harder and harder to find.
I have a Voyager too. Do you know of any after-market help for the terrible throttle with engine dumping? It's the only think I hate about the bike.
@@douglashawkins4402 the best way to deal with that is get your ECU flashed.
@@cyclehawkmotolife ya that helps wake the bike up and heat issue, but the engine dumping is still there. Never had a bike as bad as this.
@@douglashawkins4402I would call Ivan(if he flashed your ECU and talk to him about it, he may have a way to help you
Things would crack off my Harley all the time, I used 680 stick rod go slow and it didn't discolor and it didn't rust .
Do you have a link for the quick disconnect that you purchased?
@@FlipsmooveRR I’m not sure what you are referring to. I didn’t buy anything that was quick disconnect. I had to modify everything to make it a quick disconnect. Sorry if I’m misunderstanding what you’re asking.
That's ridiculous after watching it done on a Harley. Harley removed the seat and connections then unlatched the chest.
@@C_MacC23 I agree that it is ridiculous that you have to go to all that trouble, but it was never designed to be removed. 90% of the Voyager owners never want to remove the truck. I just happen to be one of those who like the option. Thanks for watching and have a good day.
@@cyclehawkmotolife I am looking at one of these bikes. I wouldn't need it all the time, primarily on a weekend ride somewhere so I like the option as well. Plus it makes the bike a little lighter Ha.
you need to slow down the process of replacing the starter relay itself. That's the major point of this video! But overall it helps! Thanks, man
Self adhesive velcro
when you have the apple car play on can you hear GOOGLE MAPS threw your bikes stock radio system? or just threw your helmet setup ? ALSO How did you wire your relay to the fuse box
@@kevinbuckley4507 you can hear GPS directions through the speakers or your headset. It depends on which one you are connected to at the time. Also, I have a drawing of how I wired everything. I’ll try to find a copy of it.
@@cyclehawkmotolife THANK YOU That will be great and help a lot I have already ordered the parts Thanks again for your Video 5 🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠
Love all the angles you’re shooting from clean and crisp, plus you’re riding a Kawasaki 😊
This video is so long and slow I replaced my stator and rectifier before it was finished 😢😢
That's awesome, thanks for documenting it!
How did you connect your apple gps to your bike speakers? Also how do you power your GPS and does it work independently from your phone?
I’m going to do a video soon that will explain all of this. Subscribe to my channel and watch for it. I’m hoping to do it this week.

Brother you could have a good business there.
How does it ride compared to the HD Road Glide?
I think it’s a great riding bike. I would say comparing ride and comfort it is right up there with Harley. The main difference is that Harley is continually improving their product and Kawasaki is making the exact same bike they have since 2009. If you want a low maintenance bike that is comfortable and will take you anywhere you want to go… consider Kawasaki. If you are wanting a bike that has 2024 technology, product support, aftermarket support and endless upgrade options, and don’t forget a much higher resell value… then I would go Harley all the way.
@@cyclehawkmotolife Thank you for the prompt response, I have test rode a lot of Harleys touring bikes, but no Kawasaki dealers offer demo rides. I really like what Kawasaki has to offer. I love a HD Road Glide but I hate the price to purchase and the up keep. I've seen that the Vulcan Voyager does almost everything the Road Glide does without the high price. Maybe some day I'll find a Voyager that I can test ride. Until then I'll keep on with my 2015 Suzuki c50t Boulevard.
I bought a Stinger remote, have it velcro'd to center of dash next to windshield on my Voyager. Five minute install. The Stingers have great range too.
Man I've been pondering that exact thing - how to capture some decent audio while using a half helmet. Hero 3, heck i use my ancient (but reliable) Hero 2 for B roll.
Yep, Atlanta traffic is the pits.
Nice little nine mile run. I had to look up Feckler 😂. I may have to make the three hour ride once the daylight lasts longer. Y'all ever ride to Little River Canyon? Let the good times roll!
I haven’t been to Little River Canyon. I’ll have to check it out. Thanks.
@@cyclehawkmotolife if you're a carnivore navigate to Big Time Cafe in Dogtown, Al. while in the area - the burgers are spectacular. If you haven't eaten in a couple of days order the large burger.
Just curious, what part of the country are you fellas in? I also have a 2009 Kawasaki voyager. I’m from the Pittsburgh area.
I’m in Tennessee. Enjoy your Voyager.
2011 c50t similar issues. Replaced starter fuse because it would blow from time to time, no change. Changed starter, no change. Changed started relay, no change. Finally pulled the battery cover on left side found a bundle of wires comming from the computer that was touching the frame. Inspected the wires and found 1 wire rubbed through and was grounding out on the frame. Put electric tape around damaged wire, bundle and frame. So far so good. You might want to look into that.
Grounding out or shorting out?
@@DieselDog1982 grounding out to ground. It did blow the factory fuse when I hit the start button so I went one size higher.
Nice bike👍🏿!! I have a Kawasaki Vaquero and I enjoy every moment riding it. Stay safe out there🏍!!

Nomad backrest bolts right
That I do not know. Sorry.
@@cyclehawkmotolife Sorry, I mean it does. I have one on my 2010
That was not smart that bike was designed to have box on it not just a back rest
What did you use to cut the chrome plastic? how did you mark it?
I used painters tape and a ruler to make the lines that I cut by. Then I used a cutting blade on my angle die grinder. I then bought some chrome auto trim to cover up the cut edges.
I'm sorry i like the conversion. Why not just get you a Vaquero. Just saying.
The trunk comes in hand when I go on long trips and when my wife rides with me she likes the comfort and security of the back rest. I just don’t need it all the time. This conversion gives me the best of both worlds.
When you cut the key on the pump come on My want come on I replace all the relays included the starter relay. Please help me.
I wish I could help, but I was in a wreck on that bike not long after making this video and it was totaled. Good luck to you though.
Hey my friend did you ever get your bike fixed sounds like we have the same problem 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Easier to get rid of the wife, and ride solo😊
Nice job. I have a 2013 Electra Glide ultra. Harley makes a detachable kit, but it's very expensive. I have 6 months of winter coming up to make my own detachable tour pak.
What quick connect did you purchase for the brake lights? Also, what did you use to keep your lines so clean for your cuts on the tour pack? Did you make a template?
I bought a connector from Autozone. I believe it was a four wire connector, but I just used three wires. I kind of made a template using tape and marking my lines using measurements to keep it equal on both sides. Then I cut it with a cutting blade on a grinder.
@@cyclehawkmotolifethank you for the reply. Will head to autozone as I’m doing this conversion as well. Went a step further and purchased a slightly used vaquero seat. Purely for aesthetics. But you back rest idea is now a new part of my plan. Thank you
Just maybe the folks are purchasing this bike and removing the trunk, cause the want the variety of colors and chrome than the dog ugly Vaquero in all black. Kawasaki needs to get their heads out of the sand pit and offer the Vaquero in chrome and colors. Who want a cheap flat blackout bike? Just a few. The majority of buyers want the Vaquero back with color choices.
This is my exact bike. Been looking around for videos of where to find that. Long story short week ago my clutch lost pressure in dead stop traffic. Once towed home 185 later, I blead the clutch multiple times over. Finally have pressure again. Went to start and nothing. Took battery to oriellys and dead cell. So I bought another one. Still nothing. Just lights coming on and small audible click but nothing. Never had any of these problems until I lost clutch pressure. Oh and now fi light comes on after about 20 seconds of trying to start. Then CHECK but says nothing else. I'm completely illiterate with these bikes except for what I've fixed and picked up along the way. Any help would be much appreciated. My next is change what you did but I'm wondering why I have a fuel injection light coming on
Wow. That’s a little beyond what I experienced with the bike. Unfortunately I no longer have the bike. I totaled it in a motorcycle wreck last summer or I would try to help you walk through the issues. Good luck to you though.
After watching this. I’m very glad I ended up with a vaquero instead. I can deal without the lower leg fairings Rear attachments are way easier on my bike
get rid of the awful music!
Same problem. My fix. Battery was just off full charge and would not crank, just the decomp solinoid going off and occassionally starting. All intermittent. Rectifyer regulator readings and outputs were not to spec. Replaced it and no problems now. Yes, i have done all of the other stuff discussed here as well. But, its a big engine with a little battery which needs to be at optimal performance output. My 2 bobs worth.
Great video!
Look up Mod3/ Dr.Jones
how many miles were on your bike when this occurred? My bike had it's first issue. just cracked 6k on my 2005 C90. my bike wont even crank, but it is intermittent. fiddled with it a few times and she did finally crank. when she cranks, she turns over just fine. so this seems similar to my issue. any thoughts?
I don’t think it has much to do with how many miles you have on it. It’s just the age of the bike. Order the starter relay and give it a shot. It’s a very inexpensive place to start. Good luck.
Now I understand more why you love it so much & I am not exaggerating!!!
One question... is this problem only occured at cold starts or it just when u rode and stopped? Mine has a problem that it starts every time for cold start but when I stop (fuel station or just having a smoke) sometimes it just wont start, and I have to wait or it randomly wiggle cables then just starts when I press the start button. No clicking noise tho only my headlight blinking like crazy when I hit the button.
I'm a little disappointed at the lack of passenger space on the Voyager... Would love to be able to relocate the truck back a few inches... Although it doesn't seem possible🤔
I haven’t seen a way to do it without messing up the alignment of the side “chrome” plastic covers.
@@cyclehawkmotolife Agreed. I've thought about this as well but it the chrome plastic that won't work.
I have a 1999 Suzuki Intruder 1500LC, and it has a starting issue. I thought it was the battery because when I went to start it, it cranked , it acted like the battery was going dead. I bought and installed a brand new battery, and went to start it, and the same thing happened, labored cranking, no start. I went to the Suzuki 1500LC / C90 Owners Group and asked what could be causing this and was told to jump the starter relay, and that if it cranked normally then the starter relay was bad. I jumped the starter relay and got a good solid crank. This group also said not to cheap out on the starter relay but to buy the OEM relay. I ordered a OEM relay and will see if this cures the starting problem.
I have a feeling my VL1500 has the same problem new battery but all I get is the clicking from decompression cable going up and down so I jumped the connections on the solenoid while having a cable tie around the clutch lever and she fired right up I have just ordered a new starter solenoid so fingers crossed lol great video especially if this works on mine
Good luck. Hope it works for you.
A great conversion! I would be interested in putting on a solo luggage rack in place of the passenger seat, and perhaps another trunk for solo application that could fit on the luggage rack....
Great ingenuity! Awesome job!
