This is my 10 minutes warmup routine before my morning SUP session, version 7. Follow-along, 10 minutes exactly, no intro/outro. Altough I insist on things important for SUPing (calves, trunk twists, burpees) it can be used as a warmup routine for all uses. No commentary nor music track as I do not want to wake up the house :-) Add yours if you want to. Keep in mind that the goal is to warm the...

Tips I haven't seen elsewhere: - use a FCS key in each hand to speed up installation and removal of FCS fins - once screwed in, tap the fin on both sides to make it settle properly, and tighten the screws a bit more if loose. Having two keys also means you do not have to move the key between screws for this step. - always take care to have the front of the fin lower than the back, otherwise the...

Hi there, where am I able to contact you? many thanks -wknd
In the 70s this was a common cool move but it died out. If you are in a crowd people don't think you are going and drop in.
@@coolas Honest feed back, thank you
what's the point of riding a sup this small...get a fking surfboard
This kind of comment shows that you didn't think before writing, and even less experienced things. Even a tiny SUP will have twice the volume of your shortboard. And look how much just adding a mere 5 liters to a shortboard radically changes its behavior... even a sinking SUP will have much more speed and wave-power-enhancing ability than a shortboard. Riding very different shapes (small mini-Simmons to 12' gliders) is what open your mind ... and your surfing.
@@coolas your putting extra volume in a surfboard that doesn't stand up paddle efficiently and performs like a floaty bouncy piece of shit in the surf.
No, you just do not know how to ride high volume boards. The secret is that you use the paddle to dominate this high volume and thus tap all its potential, something you could not do without a paddle. The acceleration you get by squeezing this high volume between the wave and your body weight using the paddle is insane. Plus good shapers know how to make rails that hold in turns even with high volume boards. The secret is how you make the water roll around the rail in the mid-section instead of releasing. And different boards are adapted to different type of waves. Just like a high volume board is killer in fat or weak waves, a thin prone shortboard is better in tubular waves, a noserider is better for ... noserides, a foilboard is better for onshore slop, etc, etc... This means I can have killer sessions alone on my peak while 20+ surfer battle each other on a "better" peak nearby as their boards are crippling them and forcing them to only enjoy very specific (and rare) waves. My SUP has less volume (relative to my weight) than what longboarders use... for surfing probably much better than you anyways.
Bonjour Colas.
Hi Coolas seen a few of your videos riding the Karmen and fair play your carving it up big time. May I ask how heavy are you? I'm 100 kilos come from surfing backing, but now 63 i like the idea of Sup surfing. So im pondering on what size would be good. Cheers Martyn Pembrokeshire Wales.
Hi, I am 97 to 100kg, with a background of prone surfing and windsurfing, and 63 next month. But I am also short (1m67) which helps my balance. In my opinion, what board to get depends a lot of the conditions you will use it in. Compared to surfing, SUP becomes VERY hard with chop, so you should not hesitate to get a very wide board (at least 32") if you plan to use it in chop and if you are tall. And the board should also be wide at the one-foot-offs (i.e. a longboard outline). You also want at least a length of 9', as a shorter board will be more technical to paddle efficiently on. What your surfing background help you is for the volume: you will not want too much volume, to keep the feel of a surfboard underfoot. A good rule would be around 160 liters (glassy) to 200 liters (chop). For your first sessions, avoid chop and wind. Watch/read tutorials on paddling technique. The error to avoid is to think: "I will get a board a bit too advanced for a beginner so that I will keep it longer". This will slow your progress immensely. Just get a cheap second hand one for learning the ropes, you will resell it in any case after the beginning phase (but not an inflatable, they do not have the surfing feel that will motivate you). And when in doubt choose the bigger board. With your surfing experience and the leverage of the paddle, even huge boards are easy to turn. Be aware that your surfing experience will not help you very much at first (especially for paddling and going out), but will become very useful later on. If you are in Wales, I strongly suggest you subscribe to supboardermag.com/ They have plenty of advice especially for your local conditions and what gear is available in the UK. And you can ask them for tips. Reading/participating in online SUP forums will be also very beneficial. Cheers, and welcome to your new phase of your surfing life!
@@coolas Thanks for speedy reply, at the mo I'm riding a 7'6" fish at 66ltrs just about duck dive it. Also a 9'6" longboard I think it's about 85 ltrs. So I know volume is your friend especially in our later years. I like the idea of the smaller type sups as you can throw them around easier, as for the 9ft plus you got to get down the back and plant that back foot to get it to turn. So maybe try that link you gave me for ideas, or ask guys in the water if I can try a quick paddle etc. Anyway thanks for the advice every days a school day! Haha Cheers.
cool, what's your fin setup/fins? I'm on a small sinking board its a real story to paddle into the waves. 3 fins kill glide/speed. 2 fins turns fast but unstable in chop.
Small sinking boards have no glide anyways, so fins wont help. You take off on small volume boards by timing your paddle strokes and body movements with the wave. Trying to glide into the wave wont work. I use 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 fins. No difference in taking off. If you have trouble with the row effect, try the C-Drive fins that provide insane hold at paddling speeds. See for instance at 0:40 on this vid, I do a tiny pause in my paddle movement to time perfectly my stroke with the "bump" of the wave lifting the board: ruclips.net/video/ON4BTbbf9VY/видео.html BTW, I use only Quobba fins, quobbafins.com/ they are a real game changer because they hold better and most importantly, are faster. They allow your board to gain I would say about 5% more top speed, it is incredible the difference on the water.
Here an example with five C-Drive fins: ruclips.net/video/p_HqHwAwOq0/видео.html The setup: i.imgur.com/W9PC4FJl.jpg
Salut cooolas Pouvez vous me conseiller svp.
There are many longboarders who are smooth stylists, but few that make it look so effortless as Robert “Jimmy” “Wingnut” Weaver! I’ve seen him many times in the Santa Cruz area. He is smooth, still stoked and laidback at the same time. He helped me pick out a board for my wife’s birthday many years ago. He is a cool cat and a good guy.
wich size do you use for the front wing and mat?
Hi, this video dates back from more than 5 years, the gear I use there is totally obsolete by now. Current foils are much, much better, with plenty of options. It was a Gong Hellvator L, with a 65cm mast. I Guess in the current Gong line, similar to the Allvator Rise. See all the details in the first 2 links in the description.
Me wishing I could do this on my shortboards
Hello Colas! Thank you very much for your precious help in forums, videos, comments etc over the years! I need help with something, If you could help. I can't decide between Karmen 120L and NFA 120L (both FSP 2X). My background: I'm 30yo, 70-75kg, 180cm height, I'm SUPing with soft-top longboards (9'x23" 95L and 9.6'x24" 105L) for around a year (~30 sessions in total). Since those softboards are more suited for surfing I think it's time to buy an actual SUP surf rigid board. I'm from Crete, an island of Greece, and since there is no ocean here the waves are almost always badly shaped. Usually 0.5m-2m high, beach break (sandy beaches), mostly choppy with onshore winds. So the sea is usually messy with a lot of foam and unpredictable since the sandbags change all the time. With those conditions which one do you think I would enjoy more? Which one is for wider variety of conditions? Since my budget only allows me to have 1 in my quiver for now. Thank you very much in advance! EDIT: The waves we usually have here, are like the ones you ride in "Sunny but weak waves" video here: ruclips.net/video/JeEHkRL8Fl8/видео.html
Oops, sorry David, I only saw your message today. I think you should take the NFA, as with chop and wind you need the stablest possible board, especially if you do not get out very often...
@@coolas Thank you for your reply Colas! Would the MOB 7'6 (120L) or 7'11 (140L) be even better than NFA? I hadn't considered it back then and I saw they are stable and fast even in chop. Let me remind you, I'm 72kg, 180cm height.
@@Crusifizerr The Mob is very stable because it is wide at the nose and tail. But this wide tail means it can become "too" stable if you take it too big for your size, you will have a hard time to put the board on the rail for turns. The NFA keeps a more pulled-in tail, which is easier to turn, even if you do not have your rear foot over the rear fin(s). Thus the 7'11" 140L may become quickly hard to turn for you, e.g. on the waves on the "Sunny but weak waves" video, but doable if you can put your rear foot against the rear kickpad . And the 7'6" 120L may be a bit short for you coming from a 9', it does not have the glide of a 9' to enter the wave, doable by reading the wave to place and time your takeoff rather than rely on simple paddling speed...
@@coolas Thank you very very much!! I've spent many weeks without making up my mind but now it is much clearer! I'll go with the NFA 9'! Thanks a again for your great effort!

Cooolas I see Gong deleted all really short boards . I was wondering what you say about the new MOB compared to the older version
There was no market for really short boards, I guess we were less than 10 people worldwide using boards less than 7' but with more than 100 liters of volume. So a production line was not sustainable. Each Gong One model did not sell more than 3 boards. And also with the advances of the shapes and the construction (boards now are now stronger for the same weight) a 7'2" modern board feels as nimble as a 6'8", but with a significant gain in paddling speed. I got one of the last One made (6'10" x 125L), thinking I would never part with it... but since I got a new Mob (Cool 7'6" x 120L)... i resold the One! The Mob is nearly as nimble, but paddles faster, which is very important now that I live in the crowded Capbreton/Hossegor/Seignosse area to go find peaks without crowds. You can see my review (as well as others) at www.gong-galaxy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=9420&start=120#p163560 In French, but Google Translate or DeepL work
@@coolas I read the review But my Q go to old MOB vs new MOB. I liked the old one ....but wanted narrower tail and shorter board . The new one has very wide nose that I am not sure I like and wanted to hear a comparation between the two
@@ozbarak8773 Ah sorry, I though you were speaking of the One. I didn't try the old Mob (I only had a pre-production prototype with more rocker as seen in ruclips.net/video/0Wk_Im9enxA/видео.html ). I have the 2019 Fatal however, that has the same nose as the old Mob, and it pushed water a bit when paddling and on takeoff. The new Mob nose paddles much faster. I have not used my Fatal 7'3" ... nor my Zero 9'0" since I got my new Mob. On the forum, a post of people having ridden both and offering a comparison is: www.gong-galaxy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=9420&start=105#p162955 On the forum, matt5neufSUP had the old and the new Mob, try contacting him to geta comparison: www.gong-galaxy.com/forum/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=128920
Ok So can you please can help me to choose between 8.3 145 31.7/8 7.11 140 32.1/16 My water is choopy What should be the REAL difference between the two?
@@ozbarak8773 The 8'3" is thinner and longer, the 7'11" wider and shorter. Thus the 8'3" will have more paddling speed, more glide, and easier to put on the rail. The 7'1"" will have more acceleration, planes a bit earlier, less swing weight (inertia in turns) and will be stabler. But the differences will be small. I'd say go with the 7'11" if you are tall to maximize stability, 8'3" if you are light to ease paddling and turning.

Cool cooola!
Awesomeness more more yes cool..
Nice!

Piece of cake on a longboard, and not that hard on a short board either. Meh 😂

I want to see a hear between this man and the GOAT(chicken joe)
Magnifique Coolas, tu envoies bien !
Merci!
Fully awesome .
Did this a few times today thought of wingnut
Cool!
Another great video. Ive folowed and learned a lot from you on the Breeze site. How would you compare the Gong to tne Raptor 7 x 28l? Im coming down from a Mana 8.10. Thanks
Hi it is difficult to say, I did not try the raptor. Which raptor model do you mean, the V128 7'x33"x128 liters? I have tried 7x33" boards however, and at this huge width, it will be very stable, but with such a width and short length, it will paddle very slowly (lots of drag), making it a board for very slow waves only, and with a lot of latency in turns. There are not similar boards in the Gong line, the closer would be the Mob, but it is much more streamlined, narrower and pulled-in tips for better paddling speed and more efficiency on the waves. 7'x33" is so specific that it is not made anymore by any brands (e.g. Naish doesn't make it anymore). If you need the stability of a 33" width, this means you do not have the technique to benefit from a 7'. Boards nowadays are more balanced, for instance the 128 liters Gong Mob is 7'11"x30.5". So I would advise you look rather for boards in the 8'x30" range, with wide but semi-pointed or round noses, not square.
@@coolas Thank you so much for answering. Your opinion is important to me as I know you know your stuff about SUP. Ive been offered a Bare Bones 7.33 128 litres and it has me very intrested. Any videos ive seen online the riders look like theyre having fun. Ive also been offered a French brand called Fresh boards. They look more like the JP slate model. Have you seen them in France? www.fresh-boards.com/fresh-boards-sup-en.php
@@ourwilliam2405 7.33 128 litres will be super efficient for slow waves (let's say under 8s period), but will become harder to turn in faster waves, so it depends on where your surf. I remember the Fresh boards, the brand was created at the time of the "Tomo" craze so they had this "slate" shape, but I did not try them. I never heard of them after their first year.
@@coolas I surf in Punta de Lobos, Chile, youve probably heard of it. The waves there can vary, but there are always waves. Its difficult here to get good boards as were so far from the rest of the world. A shop had the Fresh boards at 400 US dollars. And the Raptor is at 600 US dollars. Its stressful buying boards, worse than buying a car hahah. Im really confused what to do.
@@ourwilliam2405 ah yes. What are the dimension of the Fresh, and how much do you weight?
Hey Mate have you ridden a Jimmy Lewis Destroyer?
No, but Gong has been making "short longboard" SUP for years (Gong is THE worldwide reference for longboard SUPs), so I have ridden a lot of "Destroyer"-like SUPs in various lengths. They are insanely fun boards for weak waves. For instance see my 2012 Gong "Mutant" 6'9": imgur.com/a/DWrQS I recommend a length around 8', 6'9" requires a good paddling technique and has a low paddling seed (although it is a pocket missile on the wave). The JL Destroyer shape seems quite sane and nice. You should have fun with it, if you are not into vertical surfing and tight turns. This said, I do not have any longboard SUP in my quiver anymore. The Karmen replaced them, as it has the same glide efficiency, but is much nimbler on the waves.
Nice vid, nice song and amazing rider 🙌🏾👏🏿
Thanks!
