Stop over thinking your turbo LS build

Far too often I have people reach out to me with some combination of unreasonable expectation or unreasonable combination of parts. It’s just not the path to success.

this is very helpful
What’s the part number for the coolers
So is there anyway to save your stock drum in an engine stall situation? Thank you for the video, great visual.
My hot fill line on my 95 4l80e in a winnebego motorhome seems to be spot on with the top of the valve body.
Liar
Where can I purchase a fully built billet 6l80e converter with high stall? I wanna have this ready for when I get my stage 2 cam and dod delete done
Do you still build converters?..Im in tampa thats why i asked
Can you be a little over filled or is that detrimental too?
What flexplate you recommend to buy then
Goes to show filling up a 4L80E with Fluid is not bad of you fill a little more oil than recommended. I always say little bit more oil never hurts old engines and Transmissions
Confusing
It's not rocket science. Stick to knitting. Care mustn't be for you.
Confucious say confusing ding not so confusing when Confucious explain confusing dings to dum dums
Glad i bought the GM unit ?? Maybe. Ill see tonight
Billet isnt a material. The way you mention it in the vid seems to imply that it is. Billet is a process. All it means is milled from a solid part. If i machined a backplate out of a solid chunk of brass it would still be a billet backplate. Just not a strong one lol. Just saying it maybe should be explained or worded differently in future vids.
Yes "billet" is meaningless unless followed by an alloy and heat treatment process, that matters more when were talking shafts where different alloy makes a significant difference. The drive cover could be stamped 1045 sheet steel and billet 1045 steel would be a significant improvement. So for these parts they don't need further detail. Shafts is really the hill to die on with this. I appreciate the comment and you're correct. When it is important(if it doesn't start problems)I have/will call it out.
Would the 1/4" above the pan rail be the absolute full mark? or should I make that point the mid between low and full on my dipstick? Thanks
He got walked. What does this car run with a good launch?
Not going to use the 1320 correction and say it makes over 2000?
How?
Just found your channel and Subscribed. Very nice work
I had a gyrocopter, the radius on the rotor shaft was important for strength.
I run a pressure sensor , plagued with shift issues no one has any advice for, gonna tear the trans down for the 3rd time and hope to find something. Harsh 1/2, soft and late 2/3 , 3/4 I can live with but still bit harsh , Holley adjustments on duty cycle doesn’t help
You might be able to contact jasper and see what they do to fix it, I know on some transmissions they will block off some holes to make it last longer
It's amazing how even aerospace engineers can't figure that out sometimes! Even small radiuses can mean a huge improvement in strength.
Yeah, but do you braze the fins?
Any billet TC for 8L90?
Did you measure to the bottom of the meniscus?
Obviously he didn't. You can clearly see he didn't.
The fact you stand by your product is awesome I will be definitely buying one for my third gen F-body build. Driveway Engineer speaks highly of you and your product/ work 💪🏾
Oh yeah , it felt fast ❤
billet isn't the best for everytime... look at leaf spring shackles... OEM are stamp forgings... for a reason, fabricated shackles even TWICE the thickness... arn't as good not knocking your products, just implying billet is the absolute best you can buy, and just plain billet... isn't as good as forged with the grain structure able to resist loads vs billet's flat grain orientation
There are various ways to make something stronger. It can be dimensionally larger, better alloy of metal for the intend purpose, various heat treatments, or physical treatments. Oems are masters of “Just good enough” We are talking strictly about a converter. The oem converter is mostly stamped sheet metal of a steel alloy that has good elasticity to aid that process but the end result is not rigid. Manufacturing those same parts out of thicker, better alloys of steel, and a heat treatment process is a significant improvement and beyond sufficient. Not everything can, or is required to be titanium forged in a gigapress. You may not be aware, but billet blanks themselves can be forged via various processes. Just your basic cold rolled versus hot rolled steel of the same alloy has different properties. You could likewise produce a inferior forged part out of recycled Chinese door knobs, the process alone doesn’t ensure quality. All aspects determine the result.
Wow! I was a quart over and my transmission seems to run a bit better - and I was freaking out. This vid really confirms to me that being a quart over the max line is ok!!! Thanks so much - I have the 4l60e deep pan. I read forums where only one person said they went a quart over. Everyone else said only a half quart max over. So I was scared about damaging the transmission but like I said - it is shifting better. So I'm leaving it now for sure. thanks
Caveat here. A quart over in YOUR SITUATION. Obviously if someone checked their dipstick to the pan rail which you obviously didn't do, they'd find the proper fill level. You just found out your dipstick doesn't match
@@lollipop84858 I can't remember now - I installed an external OEM Magnefine magnetic filter - I had to customize the connection. The transmission works way better now. I haven't changed out the filter yet but I did a dipstick change out of the trans fluid. So I haven't checked it since I did that maintenance - I need to check my records. thanks
Just ordered one last night then saw this video this morning. We’ll see how the ATP looks
You guys see the swaztga
I have a 370 and I’m wanting to order this turbo Any feed back you can give me on this turbo Currently have 75/83mm vs billet wheel
Call me at the shop (727)401-4269 I can give you the long and short of it, and your other options, and set you up with a package deal for turbo and flanges. I also sell hard to find large diameter mandrel bends.
I appreciate Btr for responding with real actual results , I wanted to buy their IM and they told me I needed to spin alot more Rpm to see gains and would lose low range torque so with a turbo You need all the torque down low for better spooling and can turn up the boost up top
One thing I learned when machining is that they test the fitment right away and the heat while machining will make it seem it’s correct, but once it cools completely down it’ll be off
Does this happen to Th400 Rmvb with engine braking?
I appreciate your video. Bumped into it looking for some info and this gave a better look into the different plate. Question, is there a difference between the 4L60e and 4L80e center spacers? Both trans are 2004. Any help would be appreciated
I think this is also a good illustration of how important being in a very level surface when checking the level with trans installed in the vehicle.
❤ thankyou for the clarity and quality of an explanation on this!!! Forreals appreciated!
Actually Billet is cheaper to manufacture than using old cores, I had this discussion with Jim Hughes whom owns Hughes performance the reason is lack of cores nowadays, A billet convertor offers no other advantages
I dispute the 1/4" = a quart, since the entirety of the valve body would be 'under water' and taking up volume needed to raise the level in the pan??
The valve body and filter are displacing fluid volume. I'm aware. Just let me be over the top dramatic so I can really hammer home how important this is.
@@TurboSleeper so then....you admit that the 1/4" in the empty pan is an exaggeration of the amount needed to fill the SAME pan to the SAME level with all the other crap in there?? So what's the point in lying about the level vs. volume?
@@danielkingery2894 his point is the displacement of fluid does not occur as much if you're doing WOT with inertia or from a steep angle, etc.
So, anyone having a problem with their 6L80e torque converter. What makes YOUR converter better than upgrading to a 6L90 converter, which I've seen as an upgrade to the 6L80e's replacement . Like yours?
Do you have a website to check out you converters. Or how much you charge. Or do you E40D and C6 converters
I finally found your channel! Your converter I bought has been awesome so thank you. Now that the car is running this was very helpful
I am changing my filter so I am going to check this. My truck spends most of it's time in the mountains of Idaho so it is rarely level when driving and there are some steep accents and descents. Thanks for the video.
Lolol get the new Bluetooth dipsticks they have now, i just got one on fleabay best $450 I’ve ever spent
Have the same the wheel did come off when moving with engine. I dropped my left nut too.
Love the opening comment 😂
Would a torque converter cause overdrive to slip and no engine braking when down shifting? In a 700r4
Well tell the pinhead effficiency "experts" that misguided gm on this filter design to make the filter longer! Engineers hate shortcuts like this. Pennies saved on initial cost, thousands flushed on warranty... and a risk of some reputations needlessly flamed in the process That's retarded.
I need a torque converter, how can I contact you
Call me at the shop (727)401-4269 or email me Ryan@tampaperformance.com
Level 1/8 above the pan rail is the best when hot?
Sounds about right. Cold height would be near the pan rail, which is acceptable [running]. I notched my dipstick about 1/16" above the pan rail to serve as my cold level reference - so far so good.
Is that split single plane the 4150 or the 4500?
4500
