LMS 10000 and electric railcar at the Furnace Railway
Trial runs of a 7.25" gauge LMS 10000 without body at Furnace railway in West Sussex. Also shots of the line's electric railcar (which used the motor and control from an invalid carriage), plus a short drivers eye view of a trip down the branchline to Red Rock.

Visiting Engines

A look at some of the engines that have visited the RH&DR plus some shots of RH&DR locos on 'foreign' rails - including Liverpool Garden Festival. Sorry the quality is not up to much but the master went missing years ago and this is a copy of a copy.
Hastings Miniature Railway

Hastings in the days when it was a very simple line. I always thought 'Sweet Pea' looked quite at home and was not unattractive for a steam outline loco. The original coaches were also favourites of mine - shame a rake does not still exist for high days and holiday - but I guess everything moves on. Can't remember the year.

Duke of Edinburgh and Princess Anne at Dungeness in 1999. I know I refer to Princess Anne dating from 1962, but that was when Butlins changed its' name. It actually dates from 1948. Sorry about quality - it was recorded on a bit of wet string!
Volks Railway in the 1990s

A short film shot at Volk's in about 1996 (?) showing drivers Ian Gledhill and the late Alan James opersating two doubles between Aquarium and Halfway. The was no service through to Black Rock on that day. As well as shots of the cars at various places (including the West Loop) there is also a chance to see Ian re-setting the overrun brake pole between the two cars for the return journey and an...

RH&DR 50 coach test train for end of gala special
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.7 лет назад
Before we tried to break the record for the number of coaches on a train, which was 47 set in the 1950s, we ran a 50 coach test train behind numbers 12 and 14. My memory is not wonderful on dates but I think it was 1993. This shot was taken as the train approached Britannia Points on the return from Dungeness to New Romney. Locos 12 (Steve Rodgers) and 14 (Richard Batten).
Volks Railway in 1994

A short film that's been gathering dust. I've edited it to show the route so apologies if the car pairings swop around a bit. This was taken while the storm drain was being built so it includes the remains of the old Marina/Black Rock Station plus the temporary block built building that served as the station while the new one was being built.

Rhdr Santa special 1983
Yes I remember it, I was there in 1962. I lived not far away in Brighton.
I read once that there was Newfoundland artillery and flak unit based there during WW2 also Enzio Ferrari had a home nearer saint Marys bay, the late Count was in a top race in Italy, and so was Ferrari, coincidence ??? , the Count was also the owner of the original chitty chitty bang bang. I always felt happy there holiday's and visits.
Locomotive no. 10 Dr. Syn kinda looks like an American steam locomotive.
3:00 Great Scotland Yard. It's Laurel And Hardy. Thanks A Lot Mate. X
Michael Bentine was a very interesting bloke. I recommend you read his books too.
The garden raikway(the first one) is still in situ but looks like it’s hardly ever used. Looking a bit overgrown in places now.

Wow what it must have been like to be a young boy working on that railroad! I drove tractors small Massy's or Farmall's working in tobacco when I was young and enjoyed it.. as a job. Trains were my life, this would have been a dream!
Anyone notice how laid back life was? No bunch of stool tones being smashed forced into people's lives and faces.
The sound of a steam train goes: Chew chew (horn) choke an ick or, choke an ick or (faster and faster)
I remember riding on the 63 coach end of gala special. It was a VERY rapid departure from New Romney when a coupling failed and the front 8 coaches shot off like a bullet under Littlestone Road bridge before the drivers managed to stop! They backed up and reconnected to take the rest of the train with them on the 2nd attempt. A brilliant run then via Dungeness and back to Hythe. Many good memories in that video.
Hello, I remember an old friend had bought a property in W Sussex some good years ago 15 + does anyone know where the minature railway was. The film looks sixties to myself.
Derek Guyler" And Clive Dunn (from Dads Army). Magic!
The guy driving the bwlr American engine still helps at the railway now!
This is the now named Synolda which still steams and can be found in the museum at the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway in Cumbria. She's fully restored.
Correction, the line actually still exists. IT is owned by my grandparents and has had a lot of improvements to it. Sadly no steam engine, however plenty of diesels and the original electric seen in the other video.

I have the DORLING KINDERSLEY DK EYEWITNESS GUIDES Book of TRAIN. Discover the story of railways - from the days of steam to the high - speed, sophisticated trains of today. In association with THE NATIONAL RAILWAY.
I particularly favour the 10+1/4" gauge as being ideal as a comfortably sized passenger rider without being over bulky nor too compilcated, each to their own preference I guess! Such a variety of miniature gauges being available to choose from is certainly impressive. A well put together video, top marks.😊
Enjoy the ride.

The locos from Liverpool that year all met again at the RHDR Gala in 2022! It took long enough for that to happen!!!

This was my childhood
As Kent used to have working coal fields, I wonder if they supplied coal to the RHDR, assuming it was of good steaming properties!
Yes, the railway did use Kent coal at one time. It was very dusty and smoked quite a bit.
nice clips
Epic
You're back! Also interesting footage.
Such a lovely railway and lovely film! What kind of speeds they get up to? Looks like a fair rate of knots, scale makes it hard! I get scared at like 10mph on 7 1/4" stuff because it does feel a lot faster!
Maximum line speed is 25mph. Can be quite fun.
Lovely stuff, seeing Heywood in his old original red livery suprised me. Never seen any footage other than rare photos of my favourite 7 1/4 locomotive before her Eastleigh debut!
Yes, I always thought it looked very nice in red.
31:20 that’s how you perfect a coupling
what a cool model,i wonder where it is now
The owner moved to one of the islands far north of Scotland and took the model with him.
Thanks for the cab ride totally enjoyed, I am a member of the railway. It's a beautiful place to be especially Dungeness!!😎🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🇬🇧🇺🇦
