Karen and Kersten fav people of mine!
Finally got round to listening to Mr Coates episode. I found this most reassuring and insightful. While I feel I was holding back a little in my own episode, Bob made me realise that I might actually know what I’m doing after-all. And just need to keep at it. Thanks Bob and thanks K. 😊📸
I have alwyas appreciated Gavins approach to education. He starts with the basics and builds on the fundamentals as well as mistakes until he reaches the end result or goal. His humorous lighthearted approach is what many of us need. If I want a straightforward then I look to Mark Wallace or Joe Edelman. Great interview. Thank you.
I love the “butcher” analogy.
Dude is a genius.
He really is
As a college sports photographer, I tell people not to go in asking for a sideline pass for Division I football. Offer to shoot tennis or rowing or volleyball. The sports information people (and their parents) want pictures of those players too. Do it for free if you're serious about it. That gets you known to the SIDs and two things can happen if you produce a good product. You may get the opportunity to move to men's basketball or football for the local college. But more often, a visiting team or their local media might not be able to afford to send their own photographer. So they ask the host SID for recommendations for someone to be a stringer for the visiting team. And the SID will always recommend someone they know who has produced good work for them in the past, even if their past good work is in non-revenue sports.
Mark is a excellent educator. The photography world needs him now as much as ever!
He really is! I always love having him on the podcast. Thank you for listening/watching :)
Good evening mate, thanks so much for having me on, just about to watch it now :-)
It was an absolute pleasure :)
This is a fascinating insight, what a great choice of guest
Thanks Mathew :)
Huge fan of Mark and his videos, If he is here in Colombia I Try to contact him. 💪🏼📸
Mark, you've given yourself a mountain to climb by heading back to the USA! Perhaps Canada may be a better choice if Columbia can't work out for you,,,loved your comment about Unmesh Dinda - couldn't agree more! Camera Shake: we subscribe to the podcast too in addition to Mark's new channel presence. We have no idea what shape the world will be in a few years from now - maybe the bots will run everything, who knows, but we will be watching you Mark on your channel until Meta really pisses us off with commercial breaks selling us sh++ we'd never buy - then we'll say "screw it", grab some gear and go out and shoot. Cheers, all.

@eoslove2022 Canada is always good :) Thank you for watching/listening and subscribing to the channel - it is very much appreciated!
So sorry I missed Mark while living in Phoenix, ( now in Miami ) but did watch the Creative Live session and several original episodes on Adorama. It’s really nice seeing him anew and I commend and appreciate his educational prowess being I’m both a musician, photographer and Sales trainer. Thank you Camera Shake for this episode and look forward to others. Good Luck to Mark as well.
I’ve learned a lot over the years from watching Gavin, he cheers me up too, oh and his improv is good entertainment, mostly! 😂. Thank you Gavin, and thanks for making this video, an insight into Gavin’s video making thought process. 👏
@Stone1108 Gavin has been an inspiration to many photographers (me included) over the years. The photography community wouldn't be the same without him. Thank you for watching/listening :)
Wow is great, journalism is hard work, but it's nice to see someone who, in spite of everything, is not broken and continues to cover events, it deserves deep respect.
That means a lot. Thanks so much for your kind words. I love what I do! -Kevin
Awesome interview really enjoyed that congrats on the Pulitzer well deserved. I'm based in new Zealand have been shooting for newspapers for 20 years covered some amazing things a couple of years ago cyclone Gabrielle smashed into our region causing death and destruction like I've never seen or want to see again. Imho I shot some of my best work during the storm and it's wake. Incredible times. Four weeks ago the company decided they no longer need photographers we also shot video crazy they're relying on journos snapping shots with their smartphones progress aye. I'm missing that job every day photojournalism it's in my blood.
Hi @paultaylorphotography9499, thank you so much for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed this interview, what a fantastic story! I actually heard about the cyclone a few years ago - I hope all is well in New Zealand :)
@@CameraShakecheers mate mostly back to normal still some infrastructure out and folk displaced but we're getting there for sure thanks ruclips.net/video/SjfTApJvAok/видео.htmlsi=YgYhyGaSkCsLcFqq
Thanks so much for your kind words and all the work that you do. Journalism is at a strange point in time right now.
@@CameraShake welcome mate cracking interview all round. I have a number of vids on my channel from the cyclone I look back at them sometimes and still can't believe the destruction just incredible the region is recovering well there are still displayed people and unlivable areas and bridges out but it's far far better now
@@lookout_santacruz it's actually worrying where journalism In particular the photography side of it is going so much reliance on supplied pictured shot on phone cams it's a whole new world.
Thanks for doing this episode. I’ve watched many of Stewart Wood’s RUclips videos over the last year and learnt a lot about the macro techniques he uses. But this conversation took the insight to a whole different level of technical detail, especially the production aspects of operating a RUclips channel. It’s not something I intend to do myself but I found the whole topic fascinating. I listened to the podcast and need to watch a couple of segments where he was demonstrating his equipment. I look forward to the weekly episodes - oops another one has been released! Time for another car journey to listen to it.
Hi @normansavigar, thank you for watching/listening and for supporting the channel. I've loved Stewart's work for a long time and it has served as inspiration for a toy photography series I shot for the Platypod RUclips channel, which includes plenty of macro elements, focus stacking, etc. I see quite a few macro images of insects at photo competitions but nothing like Stewart's work - it really is absolutely outstanding.
You cannot look through the viewfinder while bracketing on nikon, but the z8 will fire flash at 20 fps at full resolution in raw.
Thanks for checking - I was going to look into that. :)
10% of the certificate is yours Gavin. 😂
lol. Gavin is the source of many an inspiration :)
DAVE!
A privilege to speak with you
Thank you Mathew, it was an absolute pleasure having you on the show - and definitely not the last time :)
great video, interesting throughout
@@graemeclarkson9552 thanks for watching :)
I enjoy Sir Gavin's older vide9s my oldest is 15years old. I enjoy videos fromboth of you. Great video boys
Hi @PhillipMcCallum, thank you for watching! I've been following (and learning from) Gavin's videos for years and I'm always surprised how creative his content is.
Thanks for an interesting and wide ranging discussion 😊
Hi @Lightsmith_UK, it's an absolute pleasure. Thank you so much for watching & listening :)
There is NO such thing as AI. There NEVER will be. Sure, a machine can evaluate patterns faster than humans to generate similar ones, but that's all. Turn off the patterns and the code and AI disappears. Terminating the power source to the machine will guarantee this. It will NEVER be able to think for itself. Period.
Somehow I hope you’re right :) Thank you for listening & watching!
Gavin Hoey The Man, The Legend! Gavin is a natural educator, great sense of humour and if you want to know the size of anything... “it’s about the width of your screen!” 😂 Top job Kersten getting him on the show 👍
Thanks Kevin, I’m glad you liked it. It was super fun chatting with Gavin :)
Oh, so that’s why Gavin was teaching how to record videos and streams lately 😆 just kidding! What an awesome cast and topics! A so long waited podcast for me. Happy to see it finally happening ❤
Thank you! It took a while but perseverance finally paid off :)
Great Interview- Keep Rockin' the Good Stuff!......SpeedE the WFD
Thank you for tuning in. I’m glad you enjoy the content :)
A wonderful and insightful interview. Thank you both for sharing.
Hi @qnetx, you are very welcome. Thank you supporting the channel :)
A delightful podcast, with a wonderful director.
Hi @Snezhana_ph, it was an absolute pleasure having Jay on the show, great conversation and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie (I watched it three times already). Thank you for watching and listening :)
Great interview - thanks 😊
@@Lightsmith_UK thank you so much for watching. I’m glad you liked it :)
Own a Godox TT685, AD200 PRO, AD400 PRO, AD600 PRO and MS300V .
That’s very impressive. How are you liking them?
@@CameraShake Each light does its job. Some are useful in studio conditions, some are useful for quick synchronization, some are useful in nature, some are useful for field work. Sizes also matter, as do power capacities.
An informative, vulnerable and authentic discussion between artists. Something I hear over again is 'put out the kind of work you want to get paid to shoot'. I think there is a phenomenon where the developing artist, being unsure of what they actually enjoy are simply happy to get paid, and end up producing work that is somewhat accidental, and heaven fobid they beome successful at it, because they may well have delayed their artistic development as a unique voice with a unique process. Then again, not all people, even artists, want to keep developing. I have met many who are happy in their rut.
@steveh8658 I think being happy and enjoying what you do is the ultimate goal for every artist to reach - at least for a while until it's time to do something new. That's the great thing about the creative arts - it allows you to go wherever you want to go. On the commercial side however it can be more tricky :)
@@CameraShake Ah yes; the commercial side. A balancing act requiring discernment; do the jobs that pay the bills, but don't show that work on your portfolio unless you want to be hired to do more of it!
@@steveh8658 absolutely:)
Delightful conversation! Ivan…your studio is fantastic!!! #ivanweiss #londonphotographer #londonheadshots #camerashake #camerashakepodcast #stukelistens
This was so much fun to make :)
Really enjoyed this and super insightful! Look forward to seeing more!
Glad you enjoyed it! There’s definitely more to come :)
Did u ever use both lichts combined in one shoot ?
Actually I have, I used the Godox as a key light and a couple of Interfits as slaves.
No Olympus/om systems?
They were there but I didn’t get a chance to speak to them unfortunately. I’m sure there’ll be an opportunity to feature Olympus/OM Systems at some point in the podcast :)
Terrible video.
I think you misspoke at 17:53...the camera does have a mechanical shutter.
I did indeed. Thanks for pointing that out. It does have a mechanical shutter
why is he mogging you
This was a most interessant talk - compliments to both of You!
Thank you Jürgen. Glad you enjoyed it! Where are you based? Always interesting to know where people listen/watch from :)
I am based in Germany, retired, writing German books on PS, LrC, fine Art printing and digital photography.
Oh excellent. I’m in Germany at the moment until Sunday
I tuned in to listen to what Jean Fruth had to say, instead i got the host talking over her over and over again. i tried to watch this video on three separate occasions but couldn't finish
Hi guys, thank you for putting this show together. It's a fascinating insight into what we often take for granted. I'm a hybrid viewer/listener so appreciate both the video and audio editions. I fully appreciate the work that goes into the whole production process. Dave's podcast history is new to me so I've got some catching up to do.
Hi Norman, thank you so much for watching/listening. It is vey much appreciated :)
❤❤❤
I love tommy. I have 2 kids too. I understand his situation. Especially doing content and in marketing side. But at the same time you feel guilt because you think “I want to give more time with my kids” but yeah. It was hard
It's always hard to balance family life with things like RUclips (or even running a podcast). It definitely takes a lot of fine tuning :)
Everyone deserves to be photographed. I do youth sports so it's important to include all the players, not just the starters. Opportunities are everywhere. Get out and take photos every day if you can
You’re absolutely right! And thank you for listening/watching :)
Great to talk as always
Please slow down
Please speed up
I guess that balances things out :)
Great video, mate. You captured pretty much everything the show had to offer. Makes me want next year's show to come around even quicker now though! 🤣
Thanks dude. As always absolute pleasure hanging out at the show. And yes, I'm super looking forward to next year's show!
Absolute pleasure. So glad I bumped into you :)
A great review of The Photography Show. Appreciate the interview.
Really great conversation! I enjoyed listening as it was very inspiring. As he is my President, I can say that Austin is an excellent leader!
I’ll definitely drop by should I be in the area :)
