Dirty Hands and Bread Mold Part 2
Просмотров 2163 года назад
This is part 2 of 2 of our classroom experiment to test whether the cleanliness of our hands affects the amount of mold or speed of mold growth on bead that we have touched. I cannot take credit for this idea! I was tagged in this activity on FB and have done this with my students every year since.
Cell Membrane and Cell Wall Demo

Using vinegar to remove the shells of chicken eggs, we can see the shell membrane and observe how a cell membrane works. Freezing celery breaks the cell membrane and cell wall, so they can no longer function properly.

those Turkeys 😂
I feel bad for the caterpillars. I rarely see any where I live.
WHYYY do i have goosebumps all over my body watching this...omw this is gross
Hi! @Kimberly :) I am currently working on a video science project on social wasps and wanted to ask your permission to highlight a clip of this video? ❓I would fully credit you of course! 🙏
Amazing lesson!! Thank you so much!
I have a great way to keep any kind of worm off my vegetables growing in my garden; cayenne pepper! I buy a large container and sprinkle over my plants and the dirt below, especially tomato plants; no worms at all! It works great and washes off when I bring them into my kitchen. Be careful about sprinkling in the wind so you don't get it in your eyes.
GOOD EXPLANATION,
Absolutely fantastic video! Well prepped examples of each stage in this process and I loved how well you flowed through the topic! When you mentioned at the end that you're a teacher, it made so much sense. (The turkeys were an absolute delight, please thank them for me)
I don’t think nicotine is a toxin necessarily, nicotine is common in nightshade plants including tomatoes, peppers and eggplant, as well as tobacco. So nicotine is common in small amounts in lots of our foods 😊
It's my first time growing roma tomatoes and dealing with tomato hornworms, and it's actually fascinating to learn about the hornworm life cycle, what a treat! Thank you Kimberly!
Frasshole! Your students must love your class! Well done, may you inspire many young minds 😊
The Zebu should find its place in Australia where European cows suffer from unused heat and desert conditions.

Okay, Kimberly, you are awesome. All teachers need to be this fun.
OMG those turkeys! 🤣
Jeff Dahmer parasites!
Poor caterpillar. I feel sad.
Thank you for sharing all this information. I have learned so much!
I am ecstatic to see something destroying something that has been destroying my tomatoes.
Best, most intelligent video on the hornworm, as well as bonus material! Great job! You are a wonderful teacher.
The poo comes out of the Frass hole!! 😂😅👍
Zebus! 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
This was a great video covering their entire life cycle. Your students must enjoy your class.
Its 1:30 am and i just found out these show up with a UV light...
This was so cool! And frasshole made me crack up lol
I started going down a rabbit hole and I’m happy you completed it for me 😂❤
At timeline 2:30 he reacted to the trigger word (eat).
Adorable thank you for Sharing with us 💖 Stay Blessed Beautiful Friend
But where you find one or two zebu I plan some my future wildlife ranch
Do you keep out cold 🥶 weather
How do the eggs get inside the caterpiller?
Injected upon initial sting of the parasitoid wasp
OMG I wish you would’ve been my teacher!!! You’re cool AF!!!
5:25 Some minor corrections. (I hate misinformation) Moth larvae turn into a pupa, not a chrysalis. Butterfly caterpillars turn into a chrysalis, which is actually the bare butterfly pupa. Most moths make silk enclosures to protect the pupa, known as cocoons. Sphinx moths (hornworms) are an exception. They dig a hole in the dirt and line it with silk (to prevent collapse) and emerge from the ground in the spring. It should be noted that there are many species of sphinx moths, but only the tomato and tobacco hornworms are considered pests, since they are the only two species that eat tomatoes. That's why people should NOT destroy hornworms just because they have a horn. Nearly all species of sphinx moth caterpillars have a horn. Sphinx moths are great pollinators and are commonly known as "hummingbird moths" because of their hummingbird-like appearance and feeding habits.
No. That is a TOMATO hornworm. Tobacco hornworms have a blueish-black horn. Don't trust the internet because there are many sites that get it wrong, like yours.
Poor buddy ☹️
Poor caterpillar 🐛
Poor thing 🐛 The turkeys in for background
Wow
Gruesome!!!
Love ❤️ your turkey! Thank you for your very informed video.
GOBBLE GOBBLE GOBBLE GOBBLE
Oh no! I just stuck about 4 of these worms with cocoons all over them in an air tight container and killed them
Hahah I thought you were keeping a flattened hawk moth in the book saved like a flower hahah 🤣
Would like to know what the purpose of this wasp is in the ecosystem? Do they have the capability of stinging? Are they good or bad for your gardens.
wasps being predatory or parasitoid (sometimes both) are essential for population control of many other organisms, as you can see them do here being population control for the tomato hornworms, which is why a lot of gardeners purposefully attract these wasps to their plants as a form of natural pest control. as far as parasitoid wasps go, the vast majority of them either have no sting or no interest in stinging anything that isn't their host animal
Please take pity and kill that poor worm BEFORE those wasp eggs hatch! That s one horrible death even for a parasite. ...eaten alive from the inside out?
Hi I have a pepper plant that was gifted to me but it had a large worm covered with those eggs, I got rid of the worm but how I get rid of the eggs? Thanks
Those are not eggs...
Very informative video, thank you...
Amazing
So much info thank you! I just found these on my tomato plants this morning. I guess I'll be leaving them there.
