Over the last few weeks, myself, @JDirom , @everydayzwifter , and @ptp1969 have been in the planning stages of launching a team tactics initiative that would disrupt how we racing during the ZRacing series, Shimano Find Your Fast. While the best laid plans rarely every work, in this instance, the end result is exactly what we intended.

FRR Announcement and Weight loss strategy to improve W/KG
Perfected planned. Well done guys. Great great race!!!
Great watch en loved the commentary about our little plan 😉
oh yeah , you gonna catch me soon
@@evilstef667 good that means we can finally race together and I can domestique for you
Pretty good analysis. All I would add is that as you move up categories, speed increases so aero bikes become the better choice.
@@everydayzwifter very good point!
It is an interesting piece of tech. Good to hear that when you had an issue that they replaced the unit. Huge plus. The setup to use seems a little much, but still getting some very interesting data from it. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! It was great to hear your experience. I would be wanting to use it for periodically fine tuning my training zones. I'm still not sure if it would be practical for that with the limitations you said. What do you think?
@@davidschlitter6144 At the moment I’m unfamiliar with how to use the data the sensor provides to determine training zones other than where my max fat oxidation is at. Which for me seems to be at a lower heart rate and intensity than what Zwift and my FTP suggests. I think if Calibre could add a feature where it takes your data and puts it into more of an entry level understanding, it would make it great to identify and refining training zones or specific efforts. At the moment my focus is more on the metabolic cues I get and how to adjust my fuel timing. I think I’ll try to learn more about breath analysis and how that data identifies performance so I can better understand the data the app has available. I would say depending on your long term goals it may be worth getting. For me, I’m looking to get to the elite levels by 2026 and this is helping me understand what my metabolism is doing on a case by case basis so I can identify times when I need to fuel and times when I don’t.
@@davidschlitter6144 also, I might be singing a different tune after the firmware update since I will be retesting and seeing if the old data matches with the new data. I do feel like where it has my fat oxidation drop off is at a lower heart rate and effort than what I feel in comparison to my heart rate and blood glucose data.
@@SteakandChains I saw that in your first video how you could see where your fat/carb mix transitioned to 100% carb. That would be really helpful to know and be able to do endurance z1/z2 rides at that something below that power. I have used a lactate meter and FTP power test methods (which are a good 30-60 watts apart), so having another data point would be great. Last season I made some really good progress by doing a lactate ramp test and then riding ALOT at my power that was right below 2mmol/L. It was def a challenging but productive training method. I hear you talking about low carb strategies and trying to figure out how to fuel your rides. I really can't imagine having productive rides/training without LOTS of carbs. Maybe something to try for a period of time. I am sure you have also heard the advice of fuel the rides and then keep your diet balanced from a macros perspective.
@ they are a few trainers out there/physiologist out there that do talk about using fats and carbs appropriately so you aren’t over doing it but you’re still fueling for the performance you require. For me, since most of what I do is under 90 minutes, I can get away with minimal to no carbs. Anything intense then I’ll add more ad needed. My blood sugar looks like a roller coaster during an average Zwift race. I can spike up to 160 mg/dl which is almost like eating a sugary meal simply because high intensity workout force your body to release glucose from storage so the muscles have direct access to it. Simon hill and iñego san milan have a great talk on this. I know that if I am going to be doing a zone 4-5 effort for more than an hour I will add carbs but realistically only need 10-20g per hour to keep my energy up. My muscle more often than not fail before my energy does. How was your lactate testing. I want to go down that rabbit hole since lactate clearance is almost a better metric of performance than vo2.
This is crazy! Thanks for the guide, potentially it will make highlights and live even better 💪 like race camera shots
@@crankandsprints I’ve seen a few zwifters mention and show the drone shots but never saw how it was done till I looked it up this weekend then I found the Elgato mobile app and had a lot of fun playing with it. It’s isn’t perfect but still fun
nice racing , but as someone who lead out our sprinters at DRS series , JD has to be on your wheel , he wasnt , just go than with your 4 sec gap , and dont wast your Aero 1.4km to go
Just goes to show how comms help racers and is a key in racing. Awesome ride, was probably the most fun I have had in a race in a long while.
@@JDirom it was definitely awesome! Next race we’ll jump on discord and create some chaos for sure.
Great video! I have been thinking about getting one of these to understand better my training zones and fat/calorie burn. Would you recommend? What issues have you found with the device? I would really appreciate a unsponsored take on the device. Thanks.
Hi David, thanks for the question. So after spending about 10+ minutes typing I figured it would be best to do a full video on it. I’ll do my best to cover every experience I’ve had with it. Until then i would say look at this like any other tool. If you don’t have a way to independently validate your results then it’s only one data point. Give me a day or two and I’ll get that posted.
@ Sweet! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
LoL! Congrats on the helicopter view. Fantastic!
@@RideWithGerben it was pretty epic 🤣. Going to try it again tonight. Hopefully it comes out as cinematic
Fun race
Damn dude, Quick link I assume was the failure point? Good thing you were not full sprint with more lateral motion, had you been full power, and full sprint could have been worse. Glad you didn't break anything.
good thing that you are not injured , and it could be , that the chain wasnt closed properly if the pin came out like that
@@evilstef667 that’s what I was thinking too. Minor sprain but I’ll be back up by Monday
Get better soon dude. Still less injuries in Zwift that irl!
@ thanks. My ankle is better. Did a fairly decent ride today. I’ll be back to full swing by Monday
Great sprint! You went down soo much with cadence down to 50 😵
@@crankandsprints yup, I find it easier to sprint while ramping up my cadence, but I need to get better at starting from a higher cadence since right now I’m maxing out around 95-100 rpm. I’d like to get into the 110-120 of possible
Great result. Tough sprint. You did a great job gain places, and nice breakdown of your race.
Miguel: Good video! And good race. You clearly have a decent longer sprint on you - I am jealous -...so you need to use that to your advantage...as you say make sure you start mid pack (or even a little further up)...and don't be afraid to eat some wind in the last 50-75m. If you can push 800+w at that point not many will get past you!...keep strong! And I will see you in the next one
Zipp 858? Great Effort!
@@fabpsyclin you’re right, did I say 808? Looks like I was on the 808s. No wonder this ride felt harder since the 808s do have a penalty for climbing. Good catch!
good sprintpower
@@evilstef667 thanks! I was definitely happy i could keep a decent power even after the multiple surges that we had to do up the false flats and cobbled sections to keep up
@@SteakandChains we did that on Monday , Ryan , Erik Lee and myself ,in the 570-700 bracket , we had some surges and the last bump up till finish was all Z5 + Z6 with a few sprinkles of Z4 , nothing left for a sprint espacially doing Kiss 100 race the day before
@@evilstef667 JD and I were talking about that after Monday, we should do some more team style racing to mix things up in the ZRacing event 🤣. Probably going to make some peoples mad
Let's gooo⚡️🚀🤙🏽
Harrogate is horrible to pace if you are TT'ing. So don't sell yourself short, you did great!!
Really interesting to see what that device does. Interesting to see how the systems change throughout the ride. Very cool!
ZRL because it's full of OP riders staying under the max level. In FRR they get upgraded after 2 or 3 races.
@@ffwdzwift4541 I have to agree! This first round of sprints was wayyyy harder than the sprints in FRR
great effort, was a really brutal day for everyone. Just a heads up, you're not "suppose" to latch on to other teams, you can get a DQ for that
@@joshvillen good to know, thank you!
@@SteakandChains what Josh said , and not only you , the other team also
@ oh wow. Definitely don’t want to get anyone DQ from my lack of abilities
Yessss Miguel 🙏👍👍👍
Great test and video, good also the CalibreFatOx test that I didnt know. I did the fat/carbs test last year in multiple occasion but carbs for me worker way better. Also I cant stand the keto diet 😬 Ps: loved the intro 🙌
Great racing. Was fast a fast affair as expected. Not sure next week will be as fun.
I wish I had your sprinting power!!
we can trade! i'd love to climb like you. that's my goal for this year is to get above 300w average on climbing.
@ gogogo!! Start with small climbs. Worked for me!!
Oh, man! What an effort!
Let’s go team DIRT!! Have you considered trying out TrainingPeaks Virtual and joining the DIRT squad over there? We would love to have you!
A nutrition plan? Just eat food like everyone else. How about having breakfast then racing an hour later.
@@bravehartley because I did that my whole life and got fatty liver along with other metabolic problems. So I focus on optimizing my metabolic health then celebrating with cookies and candy as I achieve milestones.
i'm sorry, did you say "heavy cream?" like wtf. 😂
@@PeerensClement hahahaha about 1/4 cup heavy cream. 2 tblsp of MCT and water, tastes and has the same consistency as a glass of milk without the sugar
Great effort, and you're right about the bridge on the KOM, it's the worst part!
Great job! Excellent sprinting! Faux pas.....
Thanks for the props ! See you in the road soon !!
You love FRR… it rocks, but well done for seeing it out, it’s probably the most intense series on zwift..
@@NathanKrake this round was definitely harder but I also pushed my limits to get into the top 20 for the green jersey. I am glad it’s over
Good effort on a tough day. Gotta take those rest days and not take those extra TTT's. Best of luck on the Alpe!
@@JDirom I’ll be traveling for a week so I’ll miss the next two TTTs but I’ll at least be there for ZRL stage 1. Then my legs will get plenty of rest
🙏🙏🙏🙏👍
1st sprint was perfect executed for FTS , starting behind the group and used all the draft you could get , 2nd +3rd sprint would have been good for a FAL approach , starting midpack , 4th sprint coming from the back of the group was good again for the FTS , and if you wanna help Eric than start next to him and bomb him into the sprints from behind the group , so max draft , cheers and good luck for the Horseman stage
Rough stage in this combined cat. I spent most of the stage on my own as well.
Alleeeeeyyyyy miguellll 🙏
my friend.....if it makes you feel better my Di2 battery died stage 5 after the first sprint....had to spin in a high cadence the remaining 3 sprints. total bummer but it's all part of it. IN OTHER NEWS YOU'RE AN ANIMAL!!!!
@@ericbarfell thanks!!! You killed it today, I kept watching to see your name pop up on the sprint leader board. Today was an absolutely terrible stage. 2 more days and we can “rest”
Those wheels kept me from catching you ! lol. Awesome sprinting !!
@@zwiftcyclingbrian hahaha. You just gotta keep up for like 15 seconds and then i fall flat hahaha. Now lets see if i can do the same today after the climb up the epic/grade reverse

@ hahahahha
nice paceline you guys had there , good speed and very enjoyable, good luck for the rest of FRR , we did a negative split , every lap was quicker ,ave speed 1st Lap 43.7kmh , 2nd Lap 44 kmh , 3rd lap 44.2kmh and thats with 4Bs and 3 Cs and after Lap 1 only the Bs did the pulling
@@evilstef667 dude that’s awesome!!!! I’m hoping after today’s FRR stage I will be closer to competing for the green jersey but we’ll see if I don’t fall apart on the climb 🤣😅
I don't think your wheel choice made much of a difference. I think you were just too damn powerful at the beginning of the sprints! I think starting right at the back and winding up your sprint slower would have worked better for this one, but you still did a great job!
no it wasnt the wheels , your mistake is to start the sprints midpack , with your power you ended up on the front . you have to start at the end of the pack so you get max draft for FTS , for example Sasquatch sprint my best with less power is 21.66 on the Safety Bike
@@evilstef667 this!
Rest days during FRR are a bit of a blessing and a curse. It feels good to get a day of a recovery, but the race after the rest day is a 33km iTT that features 3 sprint segments AND we get to climb The Grade in the middle of the race.
@@brianpmack I agree. I will likely do some z2 work to keep my legs softened for tomorrow.
You are so powerful at the start of the sprint, you burst to front and loose all draft. Maybe being a bit braver and dropping further off the pack before the sprint so you get more draft for longer, or ramping up to your max sprint a little bit later?
Great sprinting power!
Was that first sprint a "fastest through segment" sprint? Because you started at the back and blasted through everyone and almost caught the leaders, so that might explain why you were first?
@@ethankeyes2231 yes, all the segments in play are FTS which is great for me so I don’t have to work as hard to stay on the front 🤣
