The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, Pt. 1
Thanks for posting this I actually founded the Fest and haven’t seen any footage in a long time
Damn I miss Siren Fest. Wish it wasn’t held on the hottest days of the years back then. I was looking to see if there was videos from the years I went. Missed 2007 but would have loved to see The New York Dolls, M.I.A. and a few other bands. Wish they’d bring this free festival back. Gov Ball sucks now and it’s stupid expensive.
Plot twist. It was Monica Lewinsky inside the car along with Bill.
I was there and Deer Tick was amazing. Now Im a big fan.
Nice UFO sound to make a futuristic setting at the beginning of the video!I also really liked your original music choices for all the different outfits.
Great work with this video! As others have said, the musical elements and sound effects were well-chosen and well used. I really enjoyed how the futuristic sound effects were mixed; some of them had a wide stereo spread that made me feel like I was in the room in the video.
the sound effects that were chosen for each situation that occurred fit the video so well I enjoyed watching this project and i loved how you used a change in sound when the women got changed! overall a really good project
I love the sounds you used throughout this piece, especially the melodies you created! They worked especially well during her costume changes. I love the underlying mechanical, but mostly new-age-y sound that's also peppy that you have for this video because it really brings out the emotion in the video. Great job!
The music used in this makes me feel like im watching a Disney type movie and the character is enjoying herself having fun, this really appealed to me . The instruments used around :37 seconds sounds futuristic and when paired with an old school video like this one makes the entire piece enjoyable. Great job overall!
The music styles changing with each successive wardrobe change was extremely on point. The styles changes seamlessly between the dress changes and successfully matches the visual aspect of the video, thereby adding on to feel of the video. Additionally, the blowing of the candles was well mixed and perfectly added the sense of a heavy gust of air. Good job!
I felt that the music for each section fitted it very nicely and were able to convey the scene clearly. I felt that perhaps some sound should be given to her swift arm movements in the kitchen, such as a soft swish of air, which may make the piece seem a little more ethereal and fairy-like
Changing the sounds whenever the woman changed outfits was very creative and cool. Also you do very well with the timing and placing of the sounds.
The tone of the music at the beginning was great, since it seemed mysterious and magical, which really fit the woman's reactions to the futuristic stove thing. The switching of music every time the woman changed her clothes was great and the tinkling sound at the end completely matched with the sparkles she was throwing into the air. Overall, this was really good.
The music in the video was astounding. Very creative to switch tunes as she switches dresses. I do feel that the music in the end did not particularly match with her dancing. Overall, very nice piece.
The sound effects gave this piece more of a fantastical, even almost comical, feel. Changing the music to match the changing outfits was terrific, and it was a great instinct to return to the initial composition when the main character emerged in her original clothing. The delay in the crowd sounds when the camera was focused on the main character added to the fantastical nature of this video, and gave it a slightly unhinged undertone at that moment, which was very intriguing. It made me wish the video would have kept going in exploration of that tonal shift.
Very well done! Love all the chime bells you got going on- think they totally fit in with the piece perfectly. I like how you changed the music/style for everytime she changed outfits. Great job!
I liked how the music changed almost perfectly with the woman changing clothes because the music that was playing really matched how the woman was dancing. At 1:26 the clapping also syncs perfectly with the video and adds realism to the video. Good job!
It was a great idea to use retro space-y sounding instruments. I like the blowing sound used for the cake scene, because it kind of pulls you out of the music to transition to the stage. Great music for a choreographed dance.
I like the music you chose whenever the woman changed clothes. You also made music that made her seem a lot more happy after she finishes. But clearly she does not know how to play tennis or swing a golf club...
I liked the musical choices you made with this video. More specifically, how the music changed every time she changed outfits, and also how each piece of music fit her outfit/ charisma every time. Really nice sounds as well, I think they fit in nicely. I especially liked the one for the cake dome thing.
I enjoyed how each time her clothes changed, the music changed to match it, that was clever. Also towards the end, the chimes every time she waved her dress or her hands was a nice touch. The music gave it a nice whimsical feel, slightly eerie. Definitely fit the 50s futuristic vibe.
Use of music was exceptional in this video, specifically when her outfits changed. The timing of background sounds was also very on point - the video and mixing overall were well made.
The musical elements you put in were amazing! All the sounds you used were really fitting of the mood, and you did a nice job of timing all of the changes in sound (especially whenever she changed outfits, and when you cut the music for when she was blowing out the candles). Very nicely done, I really enjoyed this one! -Dennis Cheng

That was a great show. I loved when the tambourine man came late.
I was there that night. It was my 21st birthday. I went backstage where I got to meet him for the third time in five years and he poured me a shot and said "here's to all your dreams coming true."
