This channel is about Model Railroading in general, and specifically the antics of the Western Kansas Division, part of the Mid-Continent Region, in the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA). Currently we are constructing a brand new N-scale layout using all-new construction techniques. The layout is the new Western Kansas Rails layout, it is sectional, and measures 18-feet by 24-feet. The modules are built using 1/4"luan plywood with monocoque construction. All the track is Micro Engineering code-55 flextrack, while all the track switches are scratch-built.

Atlas seriously stepped up their game with this one, awesome to see. Although it is interesting that they switched to Tsunami sound for this one
Very nice, but had a tendency to stutter on the used track, while the new Scale Trains went right through. Needs clean track.
@@robertsimmons6464 Yeah i noticed that with recent Atlas models. My alco S4 needed wheel cleaning right out of the box to run on already clean track, but other than that it’s solid
Those Engines look Damn sharp Mr. Robert i pre-ordered a few myself the as Delivered S.P.'s one with long snoot nose the Kodachrome units & I'm gonna try to aquire at least one DRG&W Engine maybe more but seeing your Video makes me wanna get mine now but we gotta wait a few days fun comes when the money comes hopefully as I said in the past we can come out for visit & bring some Engines to show ya Take Care Have a happy Halloween & happy Thanksgiving & Christmas. They performed quite well as we had not cleaned the track at all, too...

Hi Robert , your layout is very nice. I enjoy watching trains running on the layout . Those are some great looking locomotives. You have a lot of vehicles. Where did you find all those trucks and trailers. Thanks for sharing. Have a good week. 😎😎 👍
Some of the trailers are paper, made from templates from www.digcom.com.

Nice layout.
Thank you.
Hi Robert , I was just wondering how large your layout is. Enjoy watching your videos. Thanks for sharing . Have a good weekend. 😎😎. 👍
Hi Tommy, The Western Kansas Rails (WKR) N-scale layout measures 18-feet by 24-feet, plus two 6-foot yard modules in the center.
Beautiful Locomotive 👍

Great op session! Love the realistic size of the industry!
Thank you very much!
Nice operating session! Really impressive mill structure you got there. That's what we can do more easily in N scale vs. H0.
Thanks for the kind words. The really impressive part is what I modeled is compressed and only 1/3 of the real complex. Check it out on Google Earth it's in Kansas City, MO.
awesome loads!
Thank You very much!
Just Outstanding Video! MoPac Jack

@@robertsimmons6464 Your Welcome, Sir!
Awesome tractor collection!
Holy shit those big ass cows lol
I had to walk behind a building to get the right spot for the shot. The cows were all on the far side of the pen, but by the time I had everything set up, they had come over to see what I was doing...
Very nice layout, after moving to the house, my Wife and I are in now I had to pack up all the HO Conrail equipment I've collected over 45 years, I now have a 15x10 basement area and I'm really leaning towards an N Scale layout in Conrail, with the equipment getting better I think I could build a decent layout!!!! Thanks for the Video!!!!
Sounds like a great idea!
@robertsimmons6464 I subbed to your channel!!!!! I want to get more exposure to N Scale and see what I can find for a mid 80s Conrail layout equipment wise!!!
Nice switching move! Cool introduction to that customer and good idea to deliver new Caterpillar equipment by train. No space for such a large customer on my tiny shelf layout unfortunately. Subscribed to your channel and will check out more videos.
Space is relative, on a shelf layout, you would only need one row of equipment...food for thought.
Wheel on that last grain car was wobbling, right wheel. Maybe a bent axle
I watched again, I think what you see is some paint I used on the wheel sets that got on the tread as the car is not moving.
@@robertsimmons6464 oh ok
I like that layout's vibe.
Thank You.
Nice layout, but what is the HURRY?!? Slow 'em down!
Good point.
So glad your back!
Thank You!
Mr. Robert liked the video love the new Engines & rollingstock but most of all glad your feeling better.. that's a must & I understand on how these sicknesses can put a strong hold on ya I fought off bronchitis back in 2008 fir almost 4 months way to long & when you loose your voice that's certainly no picnic.. I've had to put up with a sore eye these past few days it's like being hit by something you try & look at things but it very hard, it has to do as my Dr. Said some Arthritis or being allergic to a food ingredient which is paprika which is found in BBQ chips something I like once in while but past that it's been a very hot summer not doing to much me & Dad have been staying inside because of his diabetes & meds don't mix well with the high heat but this week looks to be cool so we might venture out.. Can't wait to see more videos & please stay well Allen D
It's hell getting older, but the alternative is worse...
Seeing all the modules folded up made me wonder what width are the modules? I was talking to Bill Swint of SandSofNC and I think he said they use 30 or 39” width so the bottoms of the legs don’t stick out to trip people. Originally I was thinking I wanted to build frames 24” wide.
The straight sections are 30-inches in width and 6-feet in length.
👏👍☘
This is beautiful
We've had them for a while but we like to use the 53 and the 22 for interchange

Very nice! Thanks for showing us around the layout
You're welcome.
Very Nice !
Nice shots of that huge layout! Professional work indeed!
Thank You!
Fremo exhibition on the grand scale ! Trains really go somewhere.
First time I've encountered the term Free mo. What does it mean? This gargantuan layout is just spectacular
Free-mo is a set of standards for HO scale modules that can be combined into any number of configurations. There is also a version for N-scale, called Free-moN. They have a website: www.free-mo.org/
@@robertsimmons6464 thank you
@@robertsimmons6464 I had a nice little 4x8 HO thing in the attic fifty years ago. It seemed at the time that ho train people were isolated but obviously that's not the case today.
@@davidkolaga8489 There are groups for both HO and N scales.
It always amazes me to witness people touching the layouts like it's no big deal...especially adults. Sure, most of the time, it isn't a big deal. It's just the sheer lack of respect for others' things that galls me.
I was there...this layout was amazing! That street scene and the huge grain elevator! The builder was very nice to share some tips on his grain elevator build that I'm hoping to employ on my own huge elevator build. Thank you for shooting this video. I'm too self-conscious to shoot videos like these.
@KandWRailroader, Thank you so much for the kind words. If you have any questions on the elevator build, just ask...
@@robertsimmons6464 Thank you! If I think of any more, I will!
Hard evidence that you don't need a lot of space to build a great layout.
That's great. I love hands on things for kids.
Looks like a nice show.
I hope all goes well at the upcoming Train Shows! ~Tony
McPherson was cold, but Wichita should be warmer...
You opened the door and I freaked out!!!! The complete terror and horror!!!!!!!
It was just starting then, it's a complete white-out now, visibility down to a couple-hundred yards.
Robert, thank you so much for putting all of these up. I’m headed to a session at Mark’s place for the first time, and watch these all as a primer. It was a great way to familiarize myself with the railroad before getting there.
You are quite welcome, keep watching. If you wish to take some video, you can send it to me and we can add it to the page.
awesome running and great shots! love the cab ride :)
Thank you for the kind words!

How do you use the foam sheets? Do you mount on a solid sheet of plywood or something to be able to lift out and store the structure? Any idea whether the foam is stable long term?
Hi Ken, We use the 2mm foam for the streets and parking lots. The 3mm foam is cut into thin strips and is used for the curbs. For the lift outs, I use sheet styrene as a base. On this layout the sections were constructed from 1/4-inch plywood (no frame). All the main line track has a 3/4-inch plywood sub-roadbed. The rest of the surface was covered with 3/4-inch extruded foam which allows us to carve ditches and other features. The foam is highly stable, as most of the city scenes and roads were laid back in about 2016 and we have had no issues.
nice update! fuel storage and loading area looks awesome :)
Thank You very much.
Neat updates. I really like that “ silly winks” product. I use it as well.
I use Aileen's Tacky Glue to glue it down. I've found a lot of uses for it.
interesting project!
We'll have to see how it turns out...
