Thank you so much. This video answered a number of my questions and is far more useful than the multimedia presentations with multiple angle screenshots of their equipment and musicians attempting to look extremely cool in various postures 😂 made by audio tech companies 🙏🏽
@@tonyHogan1 DIY or die. Just a simple musician making music and sharing my thoughts.
You would like the set up of bypassing the IR and instead placing a UA ox box stomp after the GT. Check out the unit. it's definitely worth the investment
Thanks for this update. I’m currently comparing miixers and the Onyx 12 has moved high on my list. How are you handling individual track compression? Also, would there be an issue taking the stereo out (via usb) to an iPad for videos?
I did use it with an Ipad, and was able to assign individual tracks in Garage Band App on Ipad. The outputs are 1 for 1 so with the Onyx 16 , you have 12 mic pre's or 8 mic pre's with 4 stereo inputs which is 16 USB inputs. You can swtich the main mixer out to go out on 1/2 or 17/18, depending on what you are needing. Live, for compression, I use a vocal processor for the lead vocal. If I need compression on background vocals I group them to a single effect processor, but typically I don't do a full band live, just acoustic with one vocal, and maybe a fiddle. For recording, I just record they dry signal of the Pre to USB and add compression in the DAW during mixing.
@diestromms: Good info - THANKS!
Hello, (I just subscribed) I am currently using Sonar Platinum Producer (this is before Cakewalk by Bandlab or Cakewalk Sonar which is connected to Bandlab). I am currently looking for a tutorial (video or documented) on the Onyx mixer and recording to a DAW. I am using the USB connection from the mixer to the computer. As a drummer, I have purchased enough mics to multitrack drums. Additional questions: Am I limited because the product that I am using is technically no longer supported? When I open the DAW, the audio inputs only show odd-numbered channels available (1,3,5, etc. up to 23). Why doesn't this show the even-numbered channels? Are there any special Windows 11 settings that I need to check? I am using the recommended ASIO drivers. I am not asking anyone to do this for me as I am willing to learn how to do this on my own. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I am not sure which you are saying is not supportd, Onyx or Sonar? Are you using the new Onyx? I am not sure what you could do. I would recommend updating to a more current DAW rather than try to muddle with outdated software. There are some free applications available, trial versons. Mackie offers Waveform OEM, PreSonus has Studio One, some have use Reaper...
Good review, can you tell me if it has latency when you use virtual instruments? Thanks!
Any virtual instruments you would run off your DAW, the Onyx is just an interface...the latency is low for monitoring.

what do you mean by "the Onyx16 is a DAW controller"? it can't be a controller because of the lack of MIDI connectivity! or does it work over USB as well?
My apologies if I said that somewhere...the Mackie Onyx does NOT act as a DAW controller. Tascam Model 12 is supposed to be able to act as a DAW controller, but most of what I have seen it is difficult to set up. I have yet to get my hands on and use the Tascam Model 12. It also allows playback from the daw tracks to assigned channels. The mackie only allows you to do this on channels 13/14 and 15/16 selecting the USB input which effectively allows you to sub mix two mixes back into the mackie.
Can you make a tutorial on how to multi-track record my live sessions with this mixer? Thanks!
First of all, you need a DAW. The mixer is USB, so you would set up your DAW to use the Mackie as the interface and assign each pre to a DAW record channel. (you can assign 1-1, 2-2 etc to keep it simple. Depending on which Mackie, would give you the alloted Mic Pre's. the 16 has 12 mic pre's, (8 Mono/4 stereo). The record out is pre-EQ, so you want to get your pre gain set before recording and avoid changing preamp gain while mixing.
Spooky...

ALL RIGHT !!
THanks!
W bouzouki
It's like a Octave mandolin, sorta, but with a much longer neck. Typically 8 strings, There are different tunings for it... Irish Bouzouki is GDAD with matched string courses and a Greek Bouzouki is CFAD with octave strings on the F and F courses. We use an Irish Bouzouki and an Octave Mandolin, but often tune them GDAE like a Mandolin.
I'm a new sub. This is Good Stuff ! Cool Video too.
Thanks for checking it out and subscribing!
what do you think about the ZOOM series L and the BEHRINGER series Xenyx ?
Do not have any hands on experience with either so can not speak to their functionality. Last time I used a zoom product was an early zoom floor pedal effects processor. It seems to have packed DSP features and multi-track features, but may be lacking with mic pre's and EQ.
How were you able to control the volume of the session with the faders? Do the faders help control the post mix?
At the time, I was running individual outputs from the DAW interface into individual channel inputs, just to show fader functions. You can sub out from the DAW to USB 1/2 3/4 on channels 13/14 and 15/16, that is my only 'complaint' with USB is that you can't bring USB playback on individual channels, but the idea of the board is that if you use it for tracking, you are going straight to the DAW and editing / mixing there.
Good review. I am thinking about getting this mixer to route into studio one.
As far as a flexible board, you can use for studio recording, podcasting, live rehearsal, etc it is pretty good. If I were to be just beefing up a home studio, I might look into a UA interface, with a slate audio controller.
Great song, I love me some Punk!!! Also, I like Stop-motion!!! Good job!

You may want to scoop the mids on the Mark. Lots of us throw that mid slider below the mid line as it really makes the amp come to life. Cheers!
Good call, I didn't even get into the Parametric EQ as the intent was a comparison of the two amps. So the settings were as 'equal' as possible. The Mark V has more tone options than the Recto, but I still like them both.
@@diestromms If you really want to hear that Mark amp come to life, go to the IV or Extreme modes, on the knobs put the gain at 1 o clock, turn off the bass and mid, and turn the treble all the way up. Then for the sliders put the 80Hz near the top bar, the 240Hz and 2200Hz near the mid bar, the 750 Hz about 3 quarters of the way down the the bottom bar, and then adjust the presence knob and 6600Hz slider to taste. Instant insane heavy metal tone. The knobs are all pre-gain on the heavy channel, you'll want to treat them more like an overdrive pedal than an amp EQ. Marks are weird, but they're glorious when set correctly.

I use the onyx x 12 I cant send audio signal to my pc. ¿This mixer need driver for Windows 8 & 10?. My pc not detected de mixer usb interface. I cant use it to record.
Dam !!! Mine came with free recording software , that doesn't work 😡 Still in the process of figuring it out how to use mine to record with 🤷🏻♂️
I didn'nt try the 'free software', but it works with pro-tools and with garage band. Each track lines up with the numbered inputs, it records direct off the pre-amp so there is it is not affected by EQ or fader, the leve is se by the input gain only.

Hello. Wich is better? Onyx 12 or profx12v3+? Thanks.
For my purposes, I picked the Onyx 16, I use it as a portable mixer/rehearsal mixer and studio hub. It allows me to record directly from each of the preamps in addition to 2 channel recording, the profx only does a stereo mix over USB.
Excellent videos! I’m about to buy a Onyx 16 but I have few questions I can’t confirm on internet yet. Maybe you can help me! 😃 (I’m also new into mixers) 1. Is the master recording of the sd card after faders and eq? Meaning what I heard from the main outputs is what we’ll be recorded? 2. Lets say I connect the onyx to ableton . Can I route two software synth traca into the specific uab channels? If so, will the MTR recording in ableton record these inputs too? And the sd card? I think thats all what I need to know to pull the trigger! Thanks for your input!
1. The SD card records the stereo mix. 2. You have two stereo returns from USB on channels 13/14 and 15/16 so yes with routing from Ableton you should be able to get two stereo sends (I did bus sends with pro-tools,) The SD card is on channels 11/12, so you should be able to play stereo from SD while playing synths from Ableton. The Send is 17/18, so you should be able to record the SD, Bus sends from the stereo USB input 17/18 in place of 1/2, I imagine it would have a lag at that point though...
amp is very nice, you are so sexy🥰
Interface with 8 to 16 inputs is same as 8-16 track analog mixer
There is a 24 channel version also.
Basically better to get daw recording software get waves plugins and you set
This is just an interface, and meant for live mixing with a tracking function. If you are a producer, and working with artists, it would make complete sense to go with a DAW like Pro-Tools and get some waves plugins.
Can you take on board effects on analog mixer insert to daw software
This is more of a dual purpose 'live' mixer that has a multritrack record function. You can record each track separately to a DAW, while recording a stereo 'live' mix along with a main mix and a couple monitor mixes simultaneously. For a Budget.
Should just use a daw it’s the same thang
This would be an interface to get into a DAW. You might use this when rehearsing, mic up the band and capture individual tracks.
You will have a difficult time finding any specs regarding the 1-knob compressors found on the ProFXv3 models. The company itself doesn't address this anywhere in manuals or online searching. I have a ProFx12v3 and no matter how I adjusted the knob for vocals and also for a Beat-Buddy Drum Pedal, I just couldn't notice any changes at all. It seems to be more of a "check the features box/add on" marketing/sales thing really. I personally haven't found any use for it. But that's just my opinion after almost a year of daily use. From what I could find it's a SOFT KNEE fixed 6:1 ratio, which has NO effect whatsoever on GAIN. Its only function is to lower THRESHOLD, without any other changes. From what I read, Yamaha 1 -knobs for example are considered more traditional, as they raise GAIN as compression is increased.
That is why I opted for the Onyx over the ProFXv3 as well as the ability to record individual tracks. Allen & Heath has a new line called CQ, that does not have faders, but seems to be a little more robust in the effects category.
Can the i/o of the onyx be used with waves in a live situation as an insert chain?
No, you have to think of this as an analog mixer with the ability to record individual tracks to a DAW with the USB for later mixing. Wouldn't really work well with DAW plugins as an I/O.
@@diestromms I did some digging and the onyx did launch with waves in mind.
@@travishanson166 Interesting, my search is that you could use waves plugins with the Onyx-I series which are discontinued. The new Onyx 8/12/16/24 mixers are different.
@@diestromms that is interesting. I'll have to do more digging. Because it's possible to use a behringer usb interface to get connectivity too, but I'd be happy to just use an onyx. But truth be told, if it has 16 in and 16 out, technically waves is supposed to work like an insert or routed to an input.....this is the type of dilemma that drives me to buy stuff and try it out haha.
@@travishanson166 The mackie preamps are nice clean analog preamps. Behringer may have stepped things up with the merger with Midas, but I do not believe they use the premium midas preamps.
Does it send fx in monitor?
Yes, you can. The onyx does not have any sub faders, just an FX send and two monitor sends. I believe the intent is a multi-purpose mixer for small live gigs, rehearsal spaces and a basic, simple recording interface. When recording, the fader gives you monitoring feedback but the recording to the DAW is right off the preamp pre-EQ/fader channel.
Background music is a bit too high sir
Noted. Will do better moving forward.
That was Smashing
Thanks!
Excellent song and wonderful performance! Keep rockin' man! Happy New Year!!
