Downhill mountain biking, Maryland. Part 2, Counterclockwise, Dans Mountain Lonacona Loop from top
Not as long as the clockwise downhill, so I don’t think it’s in the race for best downhill mountain biking trail in Maryland, but still a fun trail. If you don’t have a lot of time, can do the climb and this decent in not much time. Or combine with the clockwise DH like I did for a great day. Got an emtb? Party laps. Sorry for the phone ringing.

Best Downhill Trail in Maryland? Dans Mountain, Lonacona Loop Part 1- Clockwise to lower parking lot

Is this the best downhill mountain biking trail in Maryland? There are a lot of contenders, and whether it is or not, this one is a contender. Recently mulleted the Bronson. First ride was an XC trail, completely the wrong kind of trail for it, but it did fine. Never had to dab or walk on any climbs and no front wheel lifting (and no weird gymnastics to keep it down), although I was not setting any speed records on the way up. Felt good on the flow and could tell it was just chomping at the bit to get pointed down something steep. Tod...

Not quite sure what you mean bc just about all mtb trails in this part of the country are in woods. But hopefully this will help: this is mostly a pedal up and bomb down, then repeat kind of place- not really as much flowy XC. All the trails are singletrack through the woods except for the road up which you can see in the video and the power line cut-through from the overlook. If you use Trailforks I would say that they are appropriately color graded. Stay off the blacks for sure. Probably the blues too then based on your comment- they tend to be kind of loose and narrow and most are DH direction. The greens should be doable though. They are still technically singletrack but wider with mellow slope gradients and the fee flowy trails here are the green onces, and they don’t have too many roots and rocks. I just happened to be there this weekend again and got some more trail footage of other trails. Should be up soon. So come back or sub and notify bell to take a look at them. Hope this helped. 🤙

Im stuck just now never thought it would be so hard to pick a pair grips then you have the guy's on the trail tell your there's a code to go by for colour on frame n all this basically black and nothing but black on a colourful frame and anything on a silver raw frame ridiculous so i want grey in my blue frame i think odi new AG2 black grey but still want to try the support winged type but heard there so uncomfortable

F what other people think or say. There is no code. Do what you want, what works for you, and what you like. If someone is acting like a gatekeeper, kick in the gate. Re comfort, they absorb shock fine for me. You shouldn’t be holding em with a death grip anyway. With bad wrists from years of boxing and Rugby they help a ton. Good luck but don’t tie yourself in knots. If you have wrist issues I highly recommend because they provide support while still allowing sufficient grip for gnar, jumps and drops.

Yup. But this is free and can be done anywhere, anytime, nothing needed. Just a useful hack. And query on the tool- would it actually prevent the truck falling to bump stops in event of a failure? I always wondered about that. Because you are still using the computer, you are just selecting what you want. But does the preprogrammed default in event of failure stay even when you manually select heights? This hack actually kills the electronics to the air sus system, so the only thing that could happen is a bag deflates and you’d lose however much height the deflated bag causes in that one wheel, but should be able to get off trail.

Hey, great question. Not if driving on a road, unless maybe you are starting to get stuck, then use it and then discontinue once you get going. If you are on a trail in deep snow, then you can use it. Remember though, Jeeps (at the least the Rubicon but I think all models of the Gladiator) have a Brake Actuated Traction Control System, like what a lot of companies these days have, that will sense wheel spin and apply some brake to the wheel that is spinning in order to spin and thus send torque to the wheel that has grip. So a lot of times that is all you need. Hope this helps. Have fun out there.

It doesn’t. That other lock is the center diff- comes on when you drop it into either 4 Hi or 4 lo. If the front axle were locked there would be a third lock above the one you are referring to.

The button may seem small and unassuming, but its benefits may just change the way you approach off-road driving. And for some, even on-road as well. Jeep calls it the Off-Road Plus mode which, according to the brand’s vehicle owner manual, is designed to “improve the user experience when using specific off-road driving modes.” The button itself sits right in the lower part of the center stack - next to the locker switch and above the sway bar disconnect button. Essentially, when active, Off-Road Plus enhances driving in 4-High and 4-Low by slightly changing up the way each mode operates. Now, switching into this mode is certainly not a necessity or essential. But it can be helpful in certain situations when leaving the pavement and attacking all kinds of off-road terrain. Here is what Off-Road Plus mode means. When shifting into 4-Hi under Off-Road Plus mode, you’ll see more responsive acceleration and a change in the way the vehicle performs in softer terrain. The mode dials in a more tuned traction control, allowing for additional wheel slip in sandy conditions to ensure the vehicle doesn’t bog down and lose momentum. Additionally, this mode optimizes transmission behavior, holding gearing longer and keeping the revs high for continued power. This is crucial when attempting to traverse a muddy patch on the trail, or looking to crest a particularly tall series of sand dunes. Finally, using Off-Road Plus in 4-High also modifies the Jeep’s Electronic Stability Control, making it less obtrusive and generally keeping it from impeding movement so quickly - helping the vehicle overcome traction issues in sand, mud or snow. So, when do you really want to use Off-Road Plus in 4-High? Well, this combination shines when you require more speed than normal rock crawling, but still face difficult terrain. This could include desert trails, muddy paths, or loose gravel tracks that wind uphill. The increased traction and control should provide inexperienced drivers with the confidence they need to cross this terrain at higher speeds. With 4-Lo, this mode really shines at lower speed rock crawling. Once activated, the Off-Road Plus mode ensures a more controlled throttle response - providing precision and power which is much more important than raw speed when rock crawling. Additionally, this mode can help traverse rocky terrain and slippery slopes by momentarily cutting power or applying significant brake force to specific wheels depending on the need to prevent wheel spin, therefore making sure the maximum amount of traction is maintained. As far as the transmission, by engaging Off-Road Plus mode in 4-Lo, you’ll help keep constant delivery of power and prevent unnecessary upshifting when overcoming obstacles - ensuring maximum use of the engine torque. Also, Off-Road Plus mode will tweak the ESC in 4-Lo to be less restrictive, allowing the driver more flexibility in different off-road terrains. Finally, utilizing Off-Road Plus in 4-Lo will help engage the rear locker when needed. This will keep both rear wheels rotating at the same rate in order to provide maximum traction during tricky, difficult obstacles.

Bro I sure hope you block copied that! 😁 yeah it’s def cool for certain circumstances. I like it in 4Lo crawling around on rocks when throttle control is important and in 4Hi in sand and mud to allow more spin. I love 4Lo+ and trans in manny when going downhill- allows for great engine braking control.

Parked at link below- Geisinger Trail Trailhead on Google maps in case the link doesnt work. I like to treat it as a climb all the way up, bomb down and repeat kinda place. The gravel road (closed to motor vehicles) makes for a simple gear down and sit and spin to the top after each DH run so makes it perfect for this way of riding it. Plus there are so many different DHs from the top that it will keep you riding as long as you have stamina. There is one really big loop that a guy I ran into was doing but I couldn’t find it on Trailforks so I havent done it. I have ridden around the top on the trails to the west of the climbing and that was fine but I liked just bombing em straight down better. I don’t have a lot of chances for 2-4 min DH trails where I live, but I have a lot of up and down kinda XC trails, so when I get to a place like Geisinger with ability to get a long DH I usually take it. Lol. I have not tried the trails on eastern side yet bc most of them go down to a different parking lot so you’d have to pedal some distance over macadam roads to get back to the gravel climbing road and your veh. And I just haven’t had the time or enough energy to do that yet. Lol Would love to come back here with an e-mtb- could get so many more DH runs in and eastern side would be easier to do. Have fun of you get there. maps.app.goo.gl/4gdo62VmeWyKijb88?g_st=ic

If you wanna see owls I have seen both Eastern Screech Owls and Great Horned Owls numerous times at Patuxent River, Jug Bay section and Merkle Wildlife Refuge. In Maryland on the Patuxent River just south of Route 4 and east of Rt 301. One time riding there this summer it was dusk and I was still out on the trails and a Screech Owl lived up to its name as I was riding right under it. Scared me half to death. Lol.

Lol- I bet- that was some long, steep stuff. We have some good gnar in the western MD and PA and WV area. This was at a fest in WV so just a demo. I am getting one between now and end of next year though. Just depends on when I can find the perfect one. Made the call after a multiday trip in the mountains this past summer- by day three I was already low on energy when I woke up, and even the other days I wanted to keep riding but just didn’t have anymore climbs in me. Still keeping my Bronson bc I still love the Amish mtb experience, but an emtb def has a place in my stable. Keep on showing those kids how it’s done! 🤙

And electrical stuff usually can’t be fixed on the trail. If I kept her I’d have switched to the lifted coils by Atlantic British.
