Always Choose Orange
Добавлен 29 июл 2013
Always Choose Orange began 13.8 billion years ago as a tiny piece of the infinitely small, hot, and dense singularity that contained all the mass and matter in the universe. Since then, it has been expanding rapidly and recently reached its one-year anniversary. The show provides actionable ways to develop and maintain a thriving creative process. Tune in each week for a mix of short teachings and conversations with creators across a wide array of mediums - from musicians and authors to painters and photographers. Expect a blend of exercises, tips, thought-provoking stories, textual analysis, and new perspectives - all with a major focus on craft.
Rob Bell || Part 2: Pursuing a Line of Inquiry
Rob Bell (New York Times Bestselling author) is back to continue last week's conversation on creativity, the craft of writing, and his latest book, Where'd You Park Your Spaceship? Book Two: There's Only One Noon Yeah. In this episode, Rob compares his experiences with traditional publishing and self-publishing, shares what it was like to watch his plays being performed, and talks about the relationship between structure and spontaneity. He also tells the story of going to Miami and almost interviewing Richard Saul Wurman (legendary information architect and inventor of the TED conference) for his podcast but instead coming away with a powerful reminder of what it feels like to live life ...

Any Austin || Enjoying the Hyper-Mundane Aspects of Video Games
Просмотров 6 тыс.Месяц назад
Austin is, in his own words, 'making the worst video game content on the internet by far'. His RUclips channel, Any Austin, features content that looks into the hyper-mundane aspects of video games, including mapping out how rivers flow in The Legend of Zelda, how the power grid is represented in Grand Theft Auto IV, and what the unemployment rate of Skyrim is. His goal is to change the way peo...
Great interview, thank you for making it
He could make a video about anything. I don't care. I just LOVE his humor. He's a genius comedian 😆👍🏻
I'm a visual artist and man, what a great conversation about creative work. some of the most important things I learned in art school was to prioritize the creative process that will result in the highest amount of successful pieces, even if that sometimes sacrifices "correct" technique. My advanced painting prof said you should always have 6-8 paintings going at once, if not more. In a way, quantity trumps quality if it means you'll ACTUALLY finish a great painting, song, video, etc (as opposed to forcing yourself to make your one mangum opus and having it end up sitting unfinished for months). Austin's attitude towards creation is so refreshing in a world/time that feels so antithetical to it. Need like, hours more of this 👍
this was very nice, Austin is great. thanks!
“Anyone can have a bad idea. Nobody can have 100 bad ideas.” I loved this line. Austin could be a professor and I don’t mean he could teach “Gaming Videos 101 at Jake Paul University 🤓” I mean like a legit professor. This is inspiring stuff and it’s really well said and easy to follow.
Love Austin’s videos and now his music as well. All those teaser tracks at the end of the videos finally got me to check out his album on Spotify and I’ve had that on repeat for weeks now. Keep creating man!
I think I have an answer to the detail question: Yes, every single detail matters. For someone. If you have a 100 details and 10k people, they will be spread around. One detail might matter for 100, another for 10, another for 300. But in the end, assuming a sufficient amount of players, every detail will make the difference for someone out there.
Weirdly enough, he reminds me of Answer in Progress
My #1 question would be: what’s with all the hair clips? lol I saw an early video with his hair flopped to the side and it looked so good! Is this just what he has to do to get his hair to do that? Or does he think it just looks cool with the clips? Lmao no shade being thrown at all, it works for him and his personality.
The answer is so simple and mundane that it perfectly suits him: It's simply to manage his hair. 🤷🏻♂️ [SOURCE] - I know a couple other dudes that do this and I had asked them before. There's still a small chance it's for a "look" or something, however. As he says, "Use your imagination. Fill in the gaps. That's what it's all about. 😊"
Only 30 min in and Austin's creative process is absolutely reminding me of ps1 demo disks for metal gear solid and crash bandicoot warped , we didn't have money for full games or memory cards but we loved those vertical slice demo games because they had it all even if they were very short
I did not expect the guy who makes the chilled out philosophical videos about liminality in video games to be this dialled in to the analytics.
The point made at 59:18 on content creators trying to force your attention to the amount of effort put into the video throws off the whole flow of a video and that comment made me realize how off putting it is to me. Thanks Austin!
Around 22:00 going from doing eggbusters to considering doing ACTUAL mythbusters content is insanely cool
Ive been watching austin since the ThatOneShowFun days. Great to see him here
I like your content and I want more liminal spaces and unremarkable places. Odd too.
I love how Austin does many small things. From making music that he plays at the end of videos to the way he asks for engagement to how he views his relationship with his content and his viewers, it's refreshing and fun.
I would give anything for a second channel with the uncut version of his videos before he takes out the “uninteresting” parts 😂
I found out about Austin because of the NakeyJakey shoutout
in which video does nakeyjakey shout out Austin?

For the record I was a fan before he blew up 😎🙌
You're edging close to real architectural theory with this whole "experiencing places in ways they're not meant to be experienced" business 👍 you might enjoy the book Learning From Las Vegas
The host looks like a sly cooper character
Something another RUclipsr/streamer frost prime said about the youtube game thats super concise is youtube is about giving people things they don't know they wanted. Which really sums up Any Austin content. I had no idea i wanted to learn about GTA IV powerlines, i havent even played GTA IV.
Biggest inspiration 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Austin's "Unemployment Rate in Whiterun" was my first exposure to him. What a breath of fresh air that video was! Glad to see how his small niche channel has blown up in the past couple years. Great convo with him btw 😁
I’m so glad to share the same first name as this brilliant man
Nice to meet you, Any!
Such a great conversation! Could listen to you guys talk all day!
@@Brinnyknb So glad you enjoyed it! Austin is the man and it was an honor to have him on the show 🙏🏼
we love you austin
when he’s talking about the feeling you get “getting past the part where you normally do” in games that you can’t save, that was like a nostalgia bomb. I used to play a game called Comix Zone and RARELY got past this one snowy part
It's such a powerful and recognizable feeling that is very hard to put into words
Playing Link's Awakening on my Game Boy in the mid-90s on a 2.5 hour car ride and trying to see how many dungeons I could beat before we arrived
Sounds like you and ol' Sketch Turner go way back
@@BlackRaven6695 lol. There’s a part towards the end of the first chapter where you have to make a jump across a busted bridge and I missed it like 9/10 times
Wow what a wonderful conversation, I really loved listening to that, it really made me think about the wonder of video games ✨ thanks for taking the time to ask Austin these questions, i also loved how long it was! I loved that part about thinking of life as a kid and human “between loading zones” and all we have to do is make a decision to change it up and we can see a part of life we’re not used to seeing or have a cool experience in that way! I remember that feeling as a kid playing animal crossing wild world and I always kept resetting cause it was fun and easy to play like that but on the website it would talk about these things that happen if you search for them like sabrina and the water fountain, and getting into redds tent and getting gold tools but not knowing how to achieve that as a kid made it feel so magical and interesting like a whole different world as if I’m reading a fantasy book or something! And just staring at the out of bounds cliffs that would separate your village from whatever beyond and just imagining what could happen if I went past there, I feel like I’ve lost that feeling in gaming for sure since I’m so focused on achieving the next thing or next game rather than play something over and over and really be creative about the games world! And I can feel that in life as well of seeing people’s houses and just imagining what if I lived there or went past the gate but you’re not allowed to, it’s such an interesting topic, just absolutely loved it! I also really took in the things they were saying about creating and being an artist in life, thank you so much!
@@cosygracegames Thank you so much for checking out the episode and for the thoughtful comment 🙏🏼 Loved talking to Austin and so grateful the conversation is resonating with people.
Austin is a genuine inspiration
@@damarziman 💯
this was a great conversation I really enjoyed listening to it thank you both
I'm quite sick and I was already rewatching Austins videos while stuck in bed. This is incredibly needed. Ty sir
@@saradeemon Hope you feel better 🙏🏼 Thanks for watching and glad it helped!
I love Austin and binge all his music!!
I have been following Austin since he was doing EggBusters. Easily my favorite underdog creator on the website.
he just a dog now
Yayy love love love Austin's videos
Two great fellas right here
I don’t know what it is but any time I’m having a bad day watching Austin’s videos just chill me out. Maybe it’s because I realize life just like games will never be perfect, but can still be enjoyed.
beautifully said
He has an extremely calming demeanor and voice. As well as the fact that he's not a drama-queen RUclipsr! And he's got a droll sense of humor! A joy to watch and listen to!!
90 minutes of yappin'? Sign me up, brother.
The first Austin video I saw was the rivers of Hyrule video, and then I fell down the rabbit hole and binged dozens of videos over the last month. Such great videos
I love that! The rivers video threw me into a loop of endless content too and I’ve been loving it!
Exactly the same for me. I didn't even like the rivers video, but the algo threw the rest of his stuff at me and I love it
I love that this is a shared experience!
Same for me! I can’t believe I’ve never seen his channel before and now his monotone videos put me right to sleep every night 😂
Same. Also, I'm not a person who looks at stuff in videogames. I play them for either just the pure enjoyment and different world, or the art (like actual this game is trying to communicate something, not videoessay deep meaning in csgo)
Orange you glad
I didn't say
