The Ergonomic Classical Guitar Build - Part 2 of 2
I originally intended this to be my 2022 Great Guitar Build Off entry into the freestyle category. I created this guitar to have something custom made in a classical guitar building course hosted by Wolfgang Teller in Germany. This two-part video series documents the roughly 100 hours of work invested into this prototype instrument.
The music used in Part 2 is entirely played on this guitar. I ran the plugged-in guitar through the helix and into my audio interface, which was also receiving the mic'ed signal simultaneously. The tones were lightly processed in the DAW, except the last song, which was only amplified.
Can you guess any of the names of the songs? If you're interested in listenin...

Clean amp Helix tone for piezo classical guitar

I love being able to plug in and acoustic or classical guitar but I hate that typical sound of the piezo pickup. Here's a way to bring it back home and even add a bit more life to it.

Pine Entertainment Center Build with Metal Soundtrack by Synth Chris - No Talking
Просмотров 952 года назад
This entertainment center is by far the biggest thing I've ever built. Recorded from March through August of 2021, there was plenty of time for me to make mistakes, fix them, and watch how the pine boards move, bend and twist. I learned a lot and had to juggle a lot with this giant project taking up most of the garage. Then the video project sat while it was waiting for this awesome soundtrack ...

How to convert an Ibanez Talman Bass TMB30 into a Baritone without it looking like $&*%!

I try to go through my conversion of this bass in as much detail as possible. The project will cost you anywhere from $300 to $600 , depending on what replacement parts you choose and if you are looking for used or new. If you'd like one, this one will be up for sale, or I can offer to do one for you. Just leave a comment below. Throughout the video I give samples of the sound of the neck picku...

Questionable Mods: How to Add More Frets to Your Guitar or Bass
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.2 года назад
I had a real brain fart in my guitar design and build. Because the fret access was a bit too tight, I decided (after already making the neck and gluing the body to it) to make it 22 frets instead of 24 frets and cut the fretboard to length, only to see my truss rod and CF rods staring up at me! Here's how I fixed it, and how you can benefit from seeing this in case you decide to add some frets ...

GGBO2021 - Pt.2 - The Fretboard

Hello Freunde des Lichts! Thanks for checking out my second video in the Great Guitar Build Off of 2021. Here, I get the fretboard prepped and mounted and flushed up with the neck. Feel free to comment on what I'm doing wrong. I learned a lot from you all last year, especially about improvements to safety that I could be making. I realize that the production value here has decreased in ways, so...

Great Guitar Build-Off 2020 Entry Part 1 of 3
i plan to do this but make a bass vi, i own a few talman guitars already lol. cant get enough of these. awesome job on the mod!
Thanks man! Have fun with it!
I noticed there's a space with a bit of pointless plastic between the SGs neck and neck pickup. Would be simple to add 2 frets. Idk why they don't come stock with 24.
Great work
how's this thing sound without those frets? this sounds like the kind of jank garbage id love to make a song with
You summed it up well. Hahaaaa! Without the frets it was better, but it was garbage to begin with, which is why I was fine with doing something crazy with it. I still have the neck but the body is gone.
If you want the guitar I can send it to you. Message me.

How can we order?
Send me an email. You can find my address in the "about" part of my page.
And why tenor guitar? Can it be normal range?
Love the songs and your sympathetic approach to making mistakes, which I still do quite a numer of. But then again: there's barely anything made of wood you can't fix.
Is that a touch or early Floyd at the end.....?
No idea. What song do you have in mind?
Very good Shawn 😊
Thanks! ❤️
Very well played and nice bass sound brother!
Thanks so much! That's very kind of you. I can only hear all the mistakes and things I could do better. How do you deal with that in your own recordings?
T4m is SHIT. Tons of problems, resonances and vibrations coming from who knows where...the guys FROM T4M told me "just cut a sponge or cloth and put some on where the parts make contact"...yeah...ABM=perfect
REALLY!? I haven't noticed any such problems yet in my uses. Thanks for your feedback on this.

Guitar sounds Good 👍🏽, up to the next guitar it will be better
Get out of the closet, you'll feel released indeed, good video by the way bro!
Strandberg sells cheap little washers that keep strings from slipping in the locking headpiece. They're out of stock at the moment but I'd like to see if they work in a hipshot lo-pro. Anyone know wherr else to buy something like that?
Have no problem with string change, used Hipshot since 2017, on a dubble neck, 4 unfretted and 5 fretted
Idea is good but this guy still doesn't have manuel abilities !
Thanks for watching and commenting. I'm not trying to teach anyone anything, just having fun and documenting it. If you want skilled instruction, go elsewhere as this isn't my area of expertise, just a new hobby.
question, could you switch out the strings for thicker ones and tune a baritone guitar to BEADGC like a 6 string bass?
I wouldn't go with such thick strings as that on this. This scale length doesn't really support that really low bass B, and for the next octave up, you'd be better off with a standard baritone scale length of 27" or so.
@@ShawnHeath most 6 strings are around 30" or even less, i don't see how it doesn't support it
@@aquarius5264 you're talking about a 6 string bass, not a bass vi. Bass VIs are usually tuned in E, not B.
@@aquarius5264 sorry for the short answers requiring a bit of knowledge and interpretation. RUclips comments aren't really conducive to discussion, but if you'd like to talk, shoot me an email and we can arrange it. See my "about me" page.
@@ShawnHeath i know man! i'm asking if you put thicker strings on could you tune it to a 6 string bass, thus making it essentially a 6 string bass with a guitar's neck width
Can u turn it into just a regular electric guitar
You'd need a special custom made neck for that, and probably move the bridge. But why? Just get a standard talman and save yourself the trouble and expense.
Been wanting to do this bu with a tmb35. That way you get 14mm string spacing. Just 1mm more than a hooky bass pro.
Go for it and show me when it's done!
It could even be strung as a Bass VI w/ Fender 24-100 Gauge Strings.
Ibanez should make this a legit model!!!
Could I put a normal scale guitar neck on it? Do I have to move the bridge a lot to get that to work?
Good question! I can't say for sure, but I doubt that whatever neck you'd try to use would fit in the neck pocket properly, so you'd have to fill that and re-rout it to the shape of the neck heel. Then yes, the normal Talman has a different bridge position than this 30" bass, so you'd need to move it according to the scale length defined by the neck you've chosen. It's probably better to just buy a normal Talman guitar.
@@ShawnHeath Alrighty thanks
I'm late to the party but this is fantastic, beautiful playing as well at the end. Thank you for uploading the process of the build
Thanks for your kind comment, TJ!
That ABM website is kinda sketchy and i dont trust it and wouldn't recommend going there since they are forcing visitors to accept third party cookies to view the website. Nobody should be forced to to have digital credentials from unknown sources placed on their electronic device which just makes data theft, device malware infections and identity theft easier to implement.
I just came here to see what the heck you thought you were doing. Ha ha ha ha ha. How's that intonation working out for ya? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
Hahaaa! Yes, you got it. Don't move the bridge! It's now fretless and seriously difficult to play - you have to keep your eyes closed since all the fret markers are wrong.
@@ShawnHeath The distance from bridge to 12th fret must match the distance from 12th fret to nut. Basically, you have to get a proper neck. Then you'll be in business.
@@eidetecker thanks, you're correct. Have you seen any of my other videos? Are you thinking about doing a baritone conversion?
@@ShawnHeath Just checked out what you did with the Ibanez Talman. Isn't that a 32" neck? I ask because I've thought of making a wider neck using the 5 string Talman, but I prefer 30" as opposed to 32". Yours seems to have good action. How do you feel about the action? It is 32", right? I could be wrong about that.
@@eidetecker the 305 is a 30" scale. I'm not convinced about that conversion to 7-string though, due to the wider neck to accommodate the 5-string spacing. My action is great!
im 11 years late but awesome little mod. What a fun instrument
Hallo und Servus! The color looks good!👍🏼 If I should get that kit, that would be my choice of finish. I also like the headstock shape. Danke Dir!
Thanks! If you do indeed do this finish, move faster! The effect would've been cooler if the paint wasn't already mostly dry.
Wishing you the best of futures! I enjoyed your humor............. And I appreciate what I have learned from you. Peace
Did not expect you to be covering foreigns lol
Hell yeah! Foreigns is awesome!
First time watching and wasn't expecting that cover! The reason I'm going down this rabbit hole is bc of Admiral Angry. Trying to see how practical this obsession will be. Lol.
Sounds like a reasonable approach. If you mean playing baritone, then I'd love to hear what you come up with!
@@ShawnHeath Yes or converting a 4 string bass, eg Cort Curbow into whatever 7 string monstrosity can handle ADADGEE.
@@CFChristian I'm listening to "Buster" for the first time right now. Thanks for the referral. Don't get sucked into guitar building too much. Watch the nut width if you want to do a 7-string. Might be better to try a custom conversion neck.
@@ShawnHeath No problem. Always fun introducing people to new music. And you're right. I should take a step back and temper my expectations. Haha. I'll come back down to Earth tomorrow. Might just be able to do a 5 string bass and go from there.
@@CFChristian there's a 5 string version of the bass I used - it's a TMB305. Not sure which A you mean for your 7 string, but you probably don't need a full 30". 28 or 28.5" should get you there easily without any issue. I was in G-standard for that cover.
It looks like, after having bested him in battle, you used the husk of Robocop as a guitar body. His finish in Robocop 2 was especially not dissimilar from what you have achieved. Looks awesome... Seriously, are kits as much sanding as they say (if I'm just trying to get a paint grade finish)?
Thanks! This kit comes with a sealer on it, so you can already see if there are going to be inconsistencies in your paint job by holding it up to the light. I didn't find it too difficult, but this more complicated shape provides many difficult edges which you can easily sand through the paint on. Be careful about sanding/polishing too much!
This was great. Schooled me on a few things. Thanks man!
By any chance are you selling this guitar?
At the moment it is listed on reverb.
You Sir, are an artist!
Thank you for that kind compliment!
Looks nice. Great work and great playing with your nice CST-24 ish
😏 P R O M O S M!!
That bass end of the spectrum really booms! That's really nice.
I'm glad to watched it on good speakers so you could really appreciate that. Yeah, I love that bass!!! 😆
Nice one Shawn! I’ve just about got my garage set up and hope to be doing something like this myself. Also, nice choice on the headstock inlay
That's great! I can't wait to see and hear how it turns out.
Been waiting for this. Such a nice instrument. Thank you for all the effort you took to document your build journey and sharing it with us! Truly amazing!
You're a gem, Cos!
Congrats, it looks and sounds great!
Thanks bud! I'd love to hear what it sounds like in your hands.
Nice work Shawn! It's great seeing it come together after you tried your best to over-complicate the build in the design stage.
Hahaaa! Yes indeed! Being my first acoustic build, though. I had no idea what I made more challenging. Sign up for his course if you have the slightest interest! He won't be doing them for long...
Man, you've got too much time on your hands, build yourself a moonboard or something! Or watch this: ruclips.net/video/-5O_iysYwj0/видео.html

I started watching and realized you weren’t going to do anything more than a ruin that guitar.
🤣 Perfect summary of this idea. The take-away: DO NOT MOVE THE BRIDGE.
It is truly magical to watch you work! The design looks awesome and you focus so carefully on every little detail. Can't wait to see more!
You are putting a lot of care into this instrument and it shows! It looks like it is coming along very well!
Thanks! Yeah, I just need to learn how to play it now so I can wrap up part 2! 😅
It makes a 5 octave range using the 5ths tuning
Ibanez should produce these.
