Sync Licensing - Part 2 added note from my last video
No handwritten notes for me. My DAW has a notes tab for track any notes. Everything else goes on a Google Sheet that I can view anywhere on any device. I throw contracts into ChatGPT now for the bullet points. Tried Composer Catalog in 2016 - didn't work for me - Google Sheets was better.
Thanks for sharing such valuable information! I need some advice: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
Great Content Chris ( Like Always )! I am from Austria ( Europa). I am 51 years Young (😂) and I started 5 years ago , selling my music on Stock music librarys . Now i wanna do Sync music, maybe you can give me some Tips!? THX Alexander
@@alexanderlindner2673 you are so welcome, my friend. Hang tight, I’m gonna do some videos talking about some things and I’m gonna pass on some good resources that will help you. I’ve already passed on some.
Unfortunately, my SSL 2+ failed quite rapidly, with very limited use. The "line" button on channel 1 failed rapidly. The contacts are poor and low end. I had to remove the button and solder the preferred connection. Now channel two doesn't work, and I rarely used this channel! Nice sounding unit, but it's CHEAPLY made, in my humble opinion.
@@peterpulpitpounder was yours the original SSL 2+? This one’s the new Mark two and I think there are some improvements. If yours is the newest one, that would be disappointing. Hopefully this one will hold up better. It’s gotten a lot harder to solder on these multilevel surfacemount boards.
@@chriswilliamstunes1 No, it's not the new mark ii. I've had my unit since August of 2021, and the line button problem developed about a year after ordering the unit, and I wasn't even using the button. I had to remove the button due to the contact mechanism not working properly, and then I soldered the line connection to the preferred option. It's just discouraging that now the other channel, channel two, now doesn't work. It's not the end of the world, but I'm going to order another unit soon, and I want it to last more than a few years. Thank you for your input. I appreciate that!
@ you are welcome. I hope this unit lasts longer as well. I have a feeling it will. I’m thinking they have gotten a lot of feedback on this because I contacted them and they replied back with we don’t repair them, but we’ll get you a new one at a discounted rate. I think they knowsome problems were happening with these units.
@@chriswilliamstunes1 Yes, the "tech" guy that I wrote to said they had "upgraded" some of the problematic parts on the new model. I hope that is the case. :)
The best setups are consolided by great masters of film scoring. We can try new things but after trying what worked well for sure
You’re good Chris. Can hear you and the audio and see everything just fine.
thank you
LOOKS LIKE ALL WORKS!! WOULD LOVE SOME INPUT ON HOW TO USE ECAMM LIVE.
JP used to be my top music library before 2020. I’d like to see them revamp their submission process and get back to the days when they’d turn around your submissions and PRO registrations fairly quickly.
Absolutely!!! I agree
did you try the micro monitor pros? How does that compare to the MTM mkii? Thanks
@@fizzyfish-k4q have not tried the micro monitor pros. I do have a pair of micro monitors and they sound great. I will say this. The pros for the micro monitor are a step up and I’m betting they do sound wonderful. The MTM’s are incredible.
Nice, You actually got it and i knew you would enjoy it. MPC is the way to go and the MPC KEY 37 is amazing imo. Its like the music before daws was hardware which was why those beats had a certain feel / hit to them and the workflow is extremely quick as you press play / overdub and go boom done on to the next
@@DETERMINOLOGY Thank you! Im gonna need help learning the sampling part. There are a lot of great resources on RUclips. Wish I knew someone locally, to sit with on this
Easier to throw the contract into chatGPT and then have it give a summary and ask it any questions you have. Most Lawyers even if they are music lawyers don't understand the norms of Sync
Would have liked seeing the SSL2 MKII in action rather than you just talking about it. I may be just speaking for myself here, but most people who are thinking of buying these devices, would like to see and hear them in action. Just food for thought and my 2 cents. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing such valuable information! Just a quick off-topic question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). Could you explain how to move them to Binance?
@@KennethHill-h5p Have non idea about any of that. That sounds like crypto and my topic is music. Thanks
Its hands on. Go for it.
@@DETERMINOLOGY Stay tuned!! I will say, The MPC is a beast of it’s own. There’s something about it, I love.
@@DETERMINOLOGY Thank You
My Nektar Impact LX88+ has some messed up components. Specifically, pitch and mod wheels have a mind of their own. There's nothing I can do about it. I had to program Logic to ignore the MIDI information from the pitch & mod wheel altogether. This is not a global setting inside logic; you have to do it for each session, so I built it into my template. If I want to pitch bend or modulate, I just pencil it in. Occasionally, I'll reassign modulation to one of the other nobs on the keyboard if I want that tactile experience. But for the most part, I'm just automating. Nektar 88 is a good cheap option if you really want the full 88 keys, which I do. But you get what you pay for with the other components. It's "good enough" for what I need. Not buying an 88 Komplete Kontrol anytime soon. We work with what we have.
@@kevinwallack absolutley!!
When you say "flat response" Chris..do you mean you are using them without the built in room correction ?
Yes, I am. I’m just selecting flat response and I’m not using any EQ and I’m not using the room correction at all.
@@chriswilliamstunes1As a package it makes sense but if you're not making use of the built in Arc system then there are better sounding compact speakers in that price range. From the video I don't see any acoustic treatment, can hear lots of reflections and also see one speaker is in a corner but the other isn't. I've had 3 different spaces now as home studio rooms and believe me when you measure the frequency response of them properly they are all over the place. I can guarantee you'll have multiple frequencies that are +/-6db out at least and your speaker in the corner will be doing different things to the other one. I have £1k APS speakers but I still spent £500 on acoustic treatment and another £300 on Arc Studio so I know my mixes will translate properly when the libraries screen them or they get used on TV. Please at least go through the process with the built-in room correction and compare to the flat setting. You've wasted a couple of hundred bucks on what those speakers are worth otherwise if you don't. Besides it might make a good video.
@ definitely, I couldn’t agree more. I intend to do it. I do want to hear what the difference is. I just know that in most cases you want your speakers to be as honest as possible. With my room, I mix it a low volume and it doesn’t effect things too much. However, depending on the room and how loud you get, definitely.
@@chriswilliamstunes1 Chris, I totally get the idea of wanting your speakers to be as honest as possible, but without room treatment or room correction, 'honest' is the last thing you’ll get. What you’re actually hearing is the room’s influence on the sound: reflections, bass boosts in corners, nulls where frequencies cancel out, and all sorts of chaos that the speaker can’t control. Even the flattest monitors in the world will lie to you in an untreated or uncorrected room. That’s why tools like the built-in room correction or something like Arc Studio are essential-they compensate for those room-induced issues and give you a more truthful baseline. It’s like wearing glasses: your vision might seem 'fine,' but once you put the glasses on (or in this case, correct the room), you realize how much clearer things can be. Honest speakers + an honest room = mixes that actually translate everywhere. I’d love to see you do a video testing this out !
@@royaltyfreemusiccollective8662I want to calibrate these. I do want to see what difference it makes. When I get a chance, I will do it. 👍👍
Thank you for being the only Sync RUclipsr that can pronounce Maschine properly.
@@royaltyfreemusiccollective8662 funny thing is I really didn’t know until I watched a few videos lol
I recently had this realization and sold everything except my computer and one midi keyboard. I suspected that I would come to this conclusion at some point, but I had money to burn and wanted to try some different things after using Maschine for a decade, just in case I really was missing out. Now I'm just using Studio One for everything and it's working great.
@@doze_beats380 So Cool, Thanks. Some great insight
Prefrence is what I would say. I didnt like the work flow of an MPC and the machine I used only a few times. Both now are just decrotive units in my house. I've swayed away from Native Instuments over the years. Both are very powerful, its just how much time you are willing to put into it. Its like learning a new DAW. Both are equally good, I just couldn't get into them. I enjoy using the computer DAW to make music.
You say iit on the title, MPC is a Toy. But what a toy, a professional music production tool that if you like playin music or playing with music you'll have infinite fun with. It is not comparable to a laptop +daw software, no way in terms of playability and creative focus. I only use Key 61 now when I want to play with music and the experience is sooo different, not having a computer in front of you but a limitless musical toy. And yes, you can record audio directly and mix and master songs inside the toy. Anyway it is not for everyone.
@@bosquemadrecoop3428 Awesome, Thanks
I use NI Maschine for beats-based music. I don’t use it for tension or rock or anything that doesn’t have a hip hop or EDM element to it. That said, I make Maschine slave to the daw. That is, Logic midi triggers my Maschine, not the other way around. I never write in Maschine. I just use it as my sample-source when the occasion calls for it. Then I send each pad to its own stereo track in logic and I use the piano roll in logic to control machine. Much more versatile that way.
@@kevinwallack that was my thought when looking at all of the stuff. I sat down with logic today and treated it as a MPC or Maschine. I felt like to me that I can do the same thing in logic. I think it’s just a different frame of mine and something simpler, as you said. Something just to roll ideas and then bring them into the DAW. I’m thinking that’s pretty much all that is anyway. Thank you so much.
😊major production move,it puts everything great at your finger tips😊
Hey Chris! I say go for it. I too compose music for film/tv and am a regular user of Logic Pro. I find that when I run into creative blocks or get "bored" using the computer, using the MPC (I have a key 61) is a nice break from the computer to get the creative juices going. Also, when you use the MPC its pretty easy to transfer your work over to Logic. Its a fun piece of gear. Go for it !!!
@@chaynes1976 awesome! Thank you so much, my friend. I am researching it and mowing it over. Another shiny toy I’m not sure if I need but I may want lol I’ve been watching videos and trying to learn how to compose on an iPad and that is driving me crazy.
Hey, can you use 2 pairs of speakers on ssl2+? if yes then can the 2nd pair be controlled with 3&4 button on, in HP volume knob?
@@MARKMAURIKS the new 2+ has four outputs. You can run two pairs on the back and there’s two headphones jacks in the front. You can run a stereo pair of speakers on the front or headphones.
mine is being wierd..I just touch it and the signal is showing on the monitor on the interface
@@zkazaofficial very similar to mine
My SSL 2 decided to stop working for no reason. Looks like it is the op amps from research. Very disappointing.
@@stickeylashes3416 was it an original ssl or one of the new ones?
@@chriswilliamstunes1 One of the original ones. I hadn't even used it too much. Just plugged it in one day and it didn't work. Did you fix yours?
@ yes, I managed to take it apart and do a little bit of soldering on the input and cleaning. I think it just needed to be cleaned. The knobs on the inside inside and the inputs just needed some dust, cleaned out of them. I have a huge background in electronics and, that seems to be the first thing you do lol. That was really all you could do with that unit. Everything is multilevel surface mode. I had to order special tips to do it with some flux and be very careful.
Are you getting asked for 32 bit 192k? 24/48k is good enough for what I need.
no, not getting asked for that. Still mostly, 16bit/44.1k. some 24/48
Did you sample the Keurig and put it in a song? If so I wanna check it out! 😁😁😁
@@AaronBaldes I did but cannot remember what track. It was a tension track. I need to find it lol
Great words of encouragement brother! Thanks for putting this out there!
@@AaronBaldes You are welcome my friend!!!
Chris I am interested to know how many tracks you have signed to Exclusive Libraries and how many of them have earned over £500 and how long it took.
I have about 1400 tracks out there and I would need to go back and count, but there are several that have made me way more than $500 over the course of time. I adventure to say in a 3 to 5 year time. period on a lot of them. a lot of that money has been made since 2016 to 2017. It’s still continuing to grow. I do a lot of volume with tension and underscore with one Library and I do a lot of rock. I also kind of do other things in between over three different libraries consistently.
What about TunEdge Chris.. I have 3 tracks in with them
I have a few tracks with Tuneedge, but no placements as of yet, that I know of. I They do mostly singer songwriter stuff
Thanks brother
@@musicmakers2198 You bet my friend
It was great hanging out and connecting again! See you in 2025!
Looking forward to it my friend!!
So, if I upload an album to disco and try to pitch it to several libraries- even then, don’t register my composition ? Just wait for a publisher to do it and collect for me? Regardless of whether it’s exclusive or non-exclusive?
@@GregoryGuay That’s correct. There’s no need to have it registered unless it’s with a library or a publisher. However, if you don’t want to put your music into a library, you can register. However, I will tell you this. you need to tell that library if you’ve registered it later; if you decide to eventually, put it in a Library. They need to know that so they can title accordingly. It’s just best not to do it until the tracks are with a library. The library is going to do all it for you. Hope that helps
Hey thank you brother Glad you had a great time
@@musicmakers2198 You are welcome!!!
I have a few tracks with them, but not sure as of yet. I haven’t seen any placements come through. Seems like they’re a good company, but I’m not 100% sure, of how many placements they get and what they get. Not sure what their top genres of music are.

It’s what works for you and that’s all that matters
I have been using the same music software since the mid 90s - Cakewalk in all it's various guises. It was a midi sequencer when I first started using it as PC's couldn't handle audio. Have tried various other packages over the years but I make one track and think " Nope " and jump back into Cakewalk. All of them have something missing that I need so I stick with what I know.
Thanks this helps a lot, especially the idea to do alternative versions of a track.
