It is haram, but not everyone follows this rule. May Allah forgive them.

@Ibn_jala Brother, Music is not Haram in Islam. It's a false assertion. It is proved from reliable sources that when Muhammad Mustafa pbuh migrated to Medina, the people welcomed him with a song, with gentle music of daf," Tal'aa al badru alaina". There was reson to declare Music as Haram as before Islam, Quraish were fond of Valgar Poetry and dance on music. So it was devised that such indecent music is prohibited in Islam. How can mind soothing music in poems in praise of our Prophet pbuh be unIslamic? It the wrong interpretation of Hadith by mullas with vested interests!

@@INDIANAZADAR There was no music, the tambourine was allowed on occasions. The companions and most Islamic scholars see them as tools of Satan to mislead people and prevent them from remembering Allah. Originally, if you go back to the sources, you will see that the story of welcoming Muslims with the tambourine and songs is a weak story. Even if we assume that it is permissible, most of the conditions mentioned by some of those who permitted it are not met in our time. This is a hadith that ends the debate (There will be people from my nation who will consider fornication, silk, alcohol, and musical instruments permissible...) @Ibn_jala Dear again getting involved in the puzzle of literature called Hadth. Classical scholars divide Hadith into 7 categories: sahih, hasan, to dha'eef, and maudouh! So 90% hadith are FAKE, as they contradict with Quran. Coming back to Music. We find in al Sahih al Bukhari that once a group of dancers and musicians visited Madina in the lifetime of Muhammad Mustafa pbuh. Hazrat Aisha wanted to see their show, so she asked the Prophet pbuh. He cheerfully agreed to her seeing the dance and listening to Music. It is the age of advancement of knowledge and technology, so Muslims need to review their sahih hadith books, and discard absurd stuff which only confuses a layman Muslim, who wants tho see what his Prophet pbuh has said or done!

@@INDIANAZADAR subhan allah.. You deny most of the hadiths and then cite one of them to support your statement! This is misguidance and following whims. The scholars' division into categories of hadith is evidence of their concern for it.. Allah the Almighty commanded us to follow the Messenger - and after his death - we cannot implement the verse except by following his Sunnah (his sayings, his actions). The authentic hadith does not contradict the Qur'an because revelation does not contradict revelation. Do not deny the authentic hadiths because without them our religion will not be stable. The rulings of Hajj, zakat, prayer, trading and usury are all detailed in his Sunnah. Shall we leave them and listen to your words? As for the story of the Abyssinians playing in the Prophet's Mosque, the instruments used were the "tambourine" and it is permissible according to the text of the aforementioned hadith
