Just a father and son bonding session through fishing
EP29: Punggol restricted area and illegal gills net
It had been quite a while since we fish in Punggol. Today we tried to go to our favourite spot but was warned by PCG not to go within the working area of the sand barge. We also got snagged on a brand new gills net which was placed a short distance from the shore. We also got snagged on an abandon gills net. It was a frustrating when you got snagged on a gills net.

Today was fish frenzy day. The smaller fishes were particularly active. Even the small ones will want to take a bigger bait on a bigger hook.

It was a rare weekday launched, weather was cloudy and it turn into a super windy and heavy rain. It was quiet day and after the storm subsided, Hafiz had one big pull and he lost it.

It had a long while since we fish at Changi CP7. Weather was nice and the sea was calm. Many fishes bites but we brought home 2 Mangrove Jack and 1 Tuskfish.

It was the shortest fishing trip. At 8am In the morning, weather was cloudy and nice. Suddenly, at 11am the wind became super strong. The wave gets higher and treacherous. Safety first, we decided to hit the shore and took shelter. We had never experience this super strong winds before. It was really scary even to land as the wave was enormous.

We were out at ECP to change our strategy. Hafiz wanted to target the monster so he only use large hooks and bigger baits and target near the structure. I'm on the other hand was trying to fish on the sandy bottom for pelagics, stingray or shovenose ray.

It has been a while since we kayak fishing in Punggol. After a short break as it was Hafiz's Birthday last week on 27 July and also the birth of his daughter. Congratulations on your birthday and the birth of his daughter. Today is going to be quick session as we have appointment in the afternoon.

I went for my 1st full jigging and popping trip in Bacan Halmahera, North Maluku, Indonesia. It was really a great learning expedition as I had unlock many species that had always in my dream. Dogtooth, Yellow Fin Tuna, Red Ruby and many more species. It really was an eye opener and I'm definitely hook up and looking forward for more offshore jigging session.

We decided to launch at ECP near Bedok Jetty. We wanted to hunt for pelagic at East Coast Park. On some occasion, anglers have caught Spanish Mackerel, Giant Trevally, Giant Barracuda, Stingray, etc. Our mission is to hunt for one.

Punggol is a great place to fish. Unfortunately, when they started building HDB flats, the waters by the shore started getting dirty. The waters are plagued with illegal gill nets also... Snagged onto them so many times. Where do you store your kayak in Punggol? Or, is that an inflatable?

This is how tenya looks like and works very well on offshore fishing. My passion for fishing and may put excitement in your kayak fishing journey.
We have used Tenya on boat and Kayak before and catched many fishes. This design with the tail looks promising though.

No luck that day. No bite during the session. The fish are probably frozen 🤪. Anyway, it was a great experience and something new for me. Try it.

Salams boss i always wanted to try kayak fishing, is it tiring? what's the minimum set up for kawak fishing? like rod & reel?
و عليكم السلام It will be tiring unless you are fit especially when you are against the current. But if do regularly and know the tides, it will not be that tiring and will be more fun. You can start by renting a kayak first and if you enjoy it, you can get your own. You can also include a kayak guide who will guide on the kayak and bring you to fishing spots. In Singapore waters, spinning size upto 3000 or bc size 150 upto 300 is enough. Short rod 6ft or lesser is manageable. Depth average abt 5m on most spots.

You can try small pops off the ground then a slow drag crank on the bottom. Zman Neds tends to float so letting the current "wiggle" its tail natural. Keep it slow, means more time in the water... hence increasing the bite rate :). But nonetheless, always good to try new methods to make it more interesting :)

Bang nak tanya 2 section kayak okay tak?
Saya dulu pakai Yak2Go modular tandem kayak. 3 sections. Boleh join 2 sections utk seorang atau 3 sections jadi 2 orang. Tebal dan Very stable. But very heavy. Satu section kalau tak silap 18kg. Kalau kali 2 atau 3 mmg berat nak2 bila time balik air surut nak tarik kayak dgn full equipment. Utk 2 sections not so bad lah tapi still heavy compared to dgn kayak biasa.
Do you anchor down when ur quite far from shore? Like how deep isit ah?
We don’t anchor. We usually drift while scanning for fish. We do move around certain spots.
Singapore water not too deep. We usually fish between 2 to 8m.
