Most scholars agree that the Peshitta is a translation from Greek into Aramaic. However, it is almost certain that the original gospels came from an Aramaic oral tradition at the very least. When I say the oral tradition of the gospels, I am mostly referring to the synoptics. The gospel of John, especially the prologue, appears to be very Greek in origin and intent linguistically. Yet, the Aramaic elements remain. Perhaps one day we will find an Aramaic gospel that predates the greek, but this is currently not the case. Aramaic knowledge does provide a hermeneutic key that can unlock many things obscured over time. I am happy to see more and more content like this as it encourages further investigation and dialogue.

Thank you for this good teaching. We need MORE of this type -- what The Eternal is actually saying to us IN THE GREEK. Translations have SOME BENEFIT, but it is THE GREEK that are words of Life.
